Excellent Stay, Outstanding Staff, Top Notch General Manager, What Could be Better?

I am a Hilton Lifetime Diamond Member so I have high expectations of the places we stay. This hotel lived up to them and more! My husband and I finally decided to try our first post Covid car trip. We live in St. Pete so decided upon Naples since it is only a 2 hour drive plus the DoubleTree was the right sized hotel for us to social distance while still having an on-site restaurant and nice pool and hot tub area. Prior to our week's stay, I emailed Jennifer, the General Manager, with a special request. She responded promptly, was more than accommodating, and even followed up with a phone call after our arrival to check if everything was OK. All GM's should take such a "sincere" interest in their guests. Upon arrival we went straight to our suite. It had the new Hilton CleanStay seal on the door and door frame. We found the room to be very clean and well maintained. Hilton Corporate has developed and rolled out their CleanStay program to address Covid and the safety of guests during their stay. However, it’s effectiveness will be only as good as each Hotel GM implements it. While the goal may be 100% consistency among all Hilton properties, I am sure that there will be deviations from the "standards" at certain properties. From every aspect that I could tell, Jennifer has done an excellent job in implementing and coordinating the effort with her team members. This was our personal experience / observations. Social distancing reminders were posted everywhere. Hand sanitizing stations positioned throughout the public areas and even inside the elevator by the buttons! Paper room service menus available upon request. All disposable meal containers and utensils along with individual, one time use condiment packets. Room door sealed after cleaning between guests. Ample supply of bathroom towels, toiletries, trash bags, dirty linen bags, etc. We would just place our trash and used linens in tied plastic bags outside our room. Housekeeping would pick up and hang a bag of new linens on our door. Again, it was a no hassle process which was most appreciated. As soon as a guest returned a luggage cart to the front door foyer, a front desk staff member was cleaning it with disinfectant. Also the Front Desk is well stocked with extra bathroom linens, toiletries, coffee maker packets, etc. that you can easily pick up on the way to your room. The restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner. Menus are posted at the entrance to the dining room. One time use paper menus are provided upon request. We are still not comfortable dining out in a restaurant: indoors or outdoors. So each morning we would order room service for breakfast. It would be delivered in a shopping bag sitting on top of a tray. All the food items were in paper, one time use, disposable containers along with plastic wrapped eating utensils. The server would place everything on the floor in the hall in front of our door, knock and then wait wearing a mask and standing at least 6 feet down the hall until we retrieved it while asking if he could get us anything else. When we were done with breakfast, we just placed everything outside in the hall and it was picked up and disposed of. Because of Covid, the restaurant has limited menus. Breakfast choices were a whole lot better than dinner ones. Breakfast included eggs and omelets cooked to order, bacon, sausage, toast, bagel, home fries, cereal, juice etc. The only two real typical breakfast items missing are grits and oatmeal. Dinner choices on the other hand were extremely disappointing so we always ordered delivery or take out from nearby restaurants. It was mainly sandwiches, salads, and only three entrees (2 seafood, 1 chicken). From reading the menu, it did not sound very interesting or appetizing. We spent three lovely afternoons by the pool. There is plenty of deck space to move chaise lounges to keep socially distant from other guests. However, on two days we were the only ones there and on the other there was only one other couple. Even though the hotel sits back from Tamiami Trail, a main thoroughfare, sitting by the pool had a "resort" style atmosphere with all the surrounding plants and natural vegetation along the banks of the river. The ONLY thing that could be improved upon in the suites is the TV situation. They are HD TVs but not Smart TVs. They are mounted FLAT to the walls in the living room and bedroom and are not on flexible swing arms to get easy access to the back of the TVs. We travel with our Roku sticks so we can watch Netflix and it was impossible to plug them into the HDMI ports because of how the TVs are mounted. Would be nice if the hotel installed extension cables that are already plugged into the back port and hang down below the bottom of the TV for easy guest access. If that's the only complaint, then negligible in the realm of things. For a first, post Covid hotel stay, we felt safe and that we could enjoy ourselves between Hilton’s CleanStay and Jennifer’s and her staff efforts in adhering to it. We know how uncomfortable it is to wear a mask while shopping so can only imagine what it must be like working and having to wear it 8 or more hours a day. We must commend ALL the employees (Front Desk, Room Service, Housekeeping and Maintenance), even with having to wear masks, for the efforts they made to greet us, converse with us or ask if they could be of assistance. Over my many years of travel, I have encountered General Managers who could care less about their guests, some that did their jobs to a certain degree but certainly not above and beyond, and then there is maybe that 5% who make that extra effort to treat both their guests and employees as being “special” and “appreciated”. Jennifer is a member of that 5% group. Thanks to Jennifer and her entire staff, we had a great first 2020 vacation which helped to make up for some of our disappointment over the three Transatlantic cruises that were cancelled this year. Good stay.

We stayed here for a quick couples getaway. Very nice place. Beds are very comfortable!! Central location, everything you could possibly need is just a short drive. COVID CDC guidelines taken very seriously. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

this hotel was good for the price

I stayed there this weekend the hotel was a little outdated in the room my tv did not work in the room the bathroom needed repairs like a crack in the tub. The jacuzzi was colder than the pool water that shouldnt be at all the pool was nice and so was the staff I like that its on the edge of a river but if you are not on the third floor you cant see it they have nets covering it and to many trees around it so you cant enjoy it TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great weekend getaway

Great value hotel! Located on the main street, easy to get to everything. Out suite had a balcony overlooking the pool area, nice for an evening wine session. They are really cleaning everything all day long, so hotel is very clean. Nice pool and breakfast areas, but staff really gets 5 stars plus! Thank you Deborah at the front desk and our server Christopher for your hard work! Really made us feel welcomed! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Hotel!!

We did a quick weekend getaway and loved the hotel. Well kept and a lot of safety precautions as well fue to COVID. Close to good restaurants and a short ride to the beach. Staff is extremely nice and helpful. Will come back again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
