Great safe vacation!

Thank you to the staff at the Doubletree Galveston for a great, safe and fun vacation. Our king room was clean, super quiet and awesome view. Hotel staff and guests wore masks. Guests were good about riding the elevator one family at a time. The pool chairs were spaced safely apart. Guest swam in the pool and kept very respectful distance. Beach umbrella rentals in front of hotel were spaced out around 20+ feet apart. I was very nervous about driving down from Dallas to Galveston. We packed the car with drinks and snacks. We made one stop at Huntsville rest stop. The restrooms were clean and doors propped open for safety. I’m so glad we didn’t cancel our trip. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Poor Experience for the Money

I’m disappointed writing this review. I thought Hilton would have higher standards. I read other reviews before booking and it seemed like a nice place. Sadly, the experience was lacking. First of all the price is wayyyyy to high for what you get. I guess the only reason they’re allowed to charge that much is because of the location. The location is the one good thing. Their indoor cafe is closed, probably due to Covid, which I understand. The swim up bar was closed due to Covid. Again, I understand, but just an inconvenience. The carpets were filthy in the whole place. Our shower was so disgusting, I wore shoes in it to take a shower, and I feel like in a hotel, that should not be the case. It was very slimy and needed a super deep cleaning. Our room had a terrible sewage smell, so they actually switched us rooms, which was okay, but the new shower was disgusting as well. There were 2 elevators in the hotel, although only one was working. During the covid crisis, this seems very irresponsible. Yes they have signs that say 2 people per elevator, but that creates long lines just to get to your room. For a hotel of this size, they should have at least 4 elevators. They did not have coffee downstairs due to Covid, so they do have keurigs in the rooms. The only problem is they don’t provide very much cream and sugar. The balcony was nice. All in all, I would only come back to this place if it was the only option on the island between this and a roach motel. Otherwise, I’m finding a new place to get my business. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good Staff/Location; Building Needs Maintenance

We stayed here twice over a 2 week period. From check in to check out, staff we very professional and took care of our needs. Laynie at the front desk went the extra mile to solve a time critical business issue I had. Pool and bar were both open with limited capacity; restaurant was not open (as described prior to arrival). Afternoon bartender was very professional and mixed some good drinks. Food was good, but portions were small. Location is perfect, right across the street from the beach. It was also within walking distance from restaurants and the pier (closed). Good ocean view. Nice small balcony to enjoy a drink. Room was very comfortable for the two of us. Maintenance program needs some work. On our second stay, the bedsheets needed to be changed. One of the two elevators did not work either time and there did not seem to be anyone working on it. Ice machines were out of order on at least two floors. Bathroom ceiling fan was hanging down. Toilet seat loose and AC unit needed to be reset once. Would be 5 star if maintained better. Never booking at this location again

I am Hilton rewards member and a frequent traveler. I came to this location in hopes to stay the night but my travel arrangements changed. I tried to reason with the front desk to pro-rate my charge because I was not staying the entire night. Where as other Hiltons have made this accommodation, the front desk associate decided to lie to me, saying the location of the hotel was why she was not able to pro-rate it, and even because I booked through Bookings.com. I have booked with bookings.com several times, in fact most times and other Hiltons have been more flexible. I felt like she just wanted to be rude and force the payment despite the fact that I was not using it for the entire night. Because being a Hilton member meant nothing to her and that she would go through great lengths to lie just to get the full nights payment, I will never book there again. I will ensure that if I am ever back in Galveston, I will choose another beautiful hotel on the seawall. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Management very unprofessional

I booked and pre-paid this hotel in Galveston and also a hotel in San Antonio back in February. At the beginning of March, I canceled because of Covid-19. I briefly glanced at my credit card statement and saw 2 credits. I didn't give it much thought, thinking one was for each of the hotels. Then, out of the blue, I received an email from Teresa Esparza in May (2 months later) saying that they had refunded me twice and charged my credit card. There was no confirmation number, receipt, reservation dates, or any credit card information. Only that they ALREADY charged my card. I believe a phone call or email prior to charging me would have been the professional thing to do. I replied to an email asking for documentation and why it took 2 months to notify me. She gave me a very lame excuse and once again did not supply any documentation. So, once again, I replied to her and asked for her manager's contact information. She never replied so I called her a week later and she said her manager was a person called Spencer and that he would be giving me a call. It's been another week now and Spencer has never called or replied to my email. When I heard the name Hilton in the past, I thought of a professional organization that put their guests first. No more. Guests - please be cautious when booking this hotel or dealing with their manager TERESA ESPARZA or GM CHANEL SPENCER!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
