Great location, views and team, but the hotel management needs a mind shift

For all seeking a quite, yet very centric location in Costa Brava, this is one of the best choices. If not the best. Great views from each room, huge balconies and very comfy beds. The rooms itself are really big, which makes your stay very pleasant. I must admit, I didn't like the result of the refurbish. The WANNA BE Ibiza style with straw on the wall does not match the golf spirit. Not the best architect with not the best taste. Bathrooms were not renovated, which is a big minus. Because actually the bathrooms were seeking a refurbish, the rooms were still OK. Breakfast was excellent. It is really worth to pay it as a big variety of products with very good quality. The service (AMAIA and HELEN!) are professionals, with GREAT ATTITUDE AND REALLY SUPERB. I know them from other stays and it is always great to see them again. Restaurant manager RICARDO could learn so much from them! For instance not to scream to the customers, since Helen and Amaia almost whisper and have this soft attitude. Ricardo seems to be more like a door keeper from a dodgy club. All the time with crossed arms, watching his staff, like he would wait for an error. I was amazed and had pity for this very nice staff as they have such a RUDE MANAGER. The day he had off was the best day for the breakfast. Overall the hotel management was very disappointing. We were missing the previous person in charge. The golf director and hotel manager (young lady) also dress in a way, that you don't know, if they are guests, or they are in charge in the hotel. They never say hello to the guest or make a chit chat. So you are quite sure they are visitors. Actually they do not care about the guests. You might have the impression you are bothering, even the hotel was empty. The main objective from the management is to create a good mood. And I can assure you, there was no good mood at all in Golf Emporda. Maybe the management is feeling to superior to pay attention to the guests and be friendly to their own staff. Like they would be from a better social class. From my perspective, the mostly sad and surprising aspect of our stay. Or maybe they just do not have the hotel experience, as they might be from other sectors? I am quite certain the hotel manager and Ricardo where never working in a hotel, as they do not know what to do.. . I also prefer the old swimming pool. It was a bit hidden, but was giving the guests full intimacy. The new pool, just in front of the hotel, does not really fit to the building. It looks like it would be in the middle of nowhere and you do not have absolutely any intimacy. The guests from the restaurant have full view on the bathing guests and might be annoyed by the screaming kids. Not enough chairs, so some guests were just laying on the grass around the pool with own towels. It had some camping appeal. Not really matching a 4 STAR hotel. I assume the objective was different, but for me the change of swimming was a big error, since the people from restaurant have full view on almost naked people from the pool. You don't have this sensation when you are in Hotel Camiral. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rude and unprofessional service. Didnt respect HHonours members or Amex Plat clients (no promised benefits or upgrades). Very far from village and taxi service expensive. We tried contact with Manager or duty manger, they didnt want talk with clients. They made receptionist make all dirty work and they really didnt care pf service. Property and rooms absolutely need renevation. Views from rooms nice. Swimming pool water were very dirty. In restaurant service good, but same products in breakfast and dinner menu. In our visit, 5 nights, it was part of Double Tree by Hilton network. One of the most worst experience in Hilton hotels TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stayed in thsi hotel 8 years ago. Satisfied. Now the hotel is in bad need of renovation. Everything is worn and old. Hotel understaffed, Service in restaurant and bara nonexisting. Difficult to understand how Hinton can let this happen. The resort has two very good golfcourses. good location north of Barcelona with good connections from most of Europe. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We just spent a week-end night enroute to our final destination. Warm welcome, room and hotel need renovation, which should occur this winter. Dinner and breakfast at the restaurant: good food and good service, especially by Carlos. The only down side: price was very high, hotel being fully booked due to a gilf competition! Not sure where the critical notes on Tripadvisor come from..... we booked 2 nights preceding a week in a sea view vila. Very friendly welcome at the reception, with the famous chocolate chip cookie. We picked the hotel because of the great and large pools, both inside and outside. The weather was excellent, so we only used the big one outside which was great, with many shaded areas both from parasols as well as under trees. The rooms all have nice verandas, and are well equipped. Best moment of the day is the breakfast on the terrace overlooking the golf-course and having the mountains in the back! So good we are contemplating to be back on our next holiday in October! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
