Nice Trip

Jan 21st, 2020

As Gold members, We checked in around 4pm and then decided not to go out, so we ate in at the hotel resturant. We both had the salmon and key lime cake. The salmon was great and then we shared the cake. The key lime cake was amazing. Our waiter was Fran and he made sure we did not want for anything. As a gold member, Breakfest is included. The hostess made sure our meal ticket was on our table and she also provided great service to us during our meals. We decided to stay an extra day and the clerks at the front desk made sure our new room keys were ready and waiting when we walked by for breakfest. The hotel sits across the street from the tall cross and in walking distance from everything. The menu is limited. I would book this hotel again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fine place to stay...but parking...see below.

Jan 10th, 2020

First let me start by saying this is a fine/average place to stay. Rooms are clean, beds almost too soft, staff wants to please, bar and restaurant, refrigerator in the rooms, outdoor pool, and price seems right. It is an older building so windows in the rooms are not large which makes the rooms a tad dark. Showers are tubs with the cloth shower curtains. (Not walk in showers surrounded by glass). Rooms are NOT a “WOW.” Parking was quite interesting (I attached a picture). They charge $15 a night. They give a parking card to hang on your rear view mirror. But “free” street parking is inches away from their lot and there are street lights which makes parking on the street seem fine. At check in I asked if it is okay to park on the street overnight and not pay $15. The guy told me yes but they can’t be responsible for cars not on the lot. However, a sign on the lot said the hotel is not responsible for parked cars. Hmm. This is contradictory. In any case, we parked on the street right smack next to the hotel lot...had no problem getting a spot and we even took our car out twice. We were afraid we would lose a spot but we didn’t. FYI on that. My first choice was to stay at The Hilton which is right in the heart of everything but that was booked up. Double Tree was my 2nd choice... it was quite a few blocks from everything. Maybe a 15 minute walk or so. Not a bad walk but as it got dark I felt a bit unsafe as the stores on the blocks were closed and dark. A few shady characters were around. Glad I wasn’t alone. Double a Tree offers a free shuttle but we didn’t want to bother with that. Breakfast buffet is $16.95 pp. I am a diamond status guest so ours was complimentary. Glad it was complimentary bc it would not be worth it otherwise! Bacon was soggy and overly greasy. Hubby loves bacon and didn’t even take any bc it looked so bad. French toast was not great, and potatoes didn’t look good either. At least my omelet was very good. I was impressed that I got two texts from the hotel making sure my stay was going well. Shows they care about their guests. Overall, it is a good place to stay but don’t expect to be “WOW’d.” TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good Location

Jan 10th, 2020

We reserved for 3 nights Jan 2020. We were checked in early by Jarod who was very nice and professional. Our room was nice, but not as clean as I would expect. There were crumbs under the information folder and on the chair by the desk, water stains on the bathroom fixtures (that could be wiped off) and lots of dust. We ate dinner at the hotel the second night and while the food was excellent, the server made me feel rushed and unwelcomed. After taking our order he sat at another table on his phone and when he brought the bill he held it in his hand and said "how do you want to pay cash, check or room charge" without even showing it to me. I'm sure it was right but it's easier to fix a mistake before I pay for it on my credit card than after. The hotel would have been fine for the other lunches and dinners during our stay but I did not feel welcome. Our stay included breakfast the last two days, we chose the buffet. This time the service was EXCELLENT but the food was cool, not hot and didn't taste as good as it looked. Although it was "included" we did pay $16.00 per person extra and seriously would have gotten better food at mcdonalds or chick filet. The parking fee of $15.00 a day includes a shuttle which you call and it picks you up from your location and brings you back to the hotel. This was also very nice BUT on our first day our driver rear-ended someone hard enough for us to get hurt. My daughter and I were the only ones on the shuttle and she hit her face into the seat in front of her and I hit my shoulder on the partition between the driver and the front seat. I have a large painful bruise on my shoulder that still hurts to the touch two days later. Luckily my daughter was fine, just shaken up. The driver ONLY cared about his vehicle damage and the truck's damage and didn't even apologize. I was in such shock I didn't even know what to say. In the morning I asked the front desk clerk Corrine for the name of the driver so if he answered we would ask someone else to drive and she said she would call the owner of the company to settle the issue. I saw her several times and she never offered a follow up. I didn't want to seem like I was making a scene by continually asking but it seems like no one cared that we were injured in an accident. No one apologized, no one was even concerned. Although the staff was nice, I would not return to this location due to the above and although I haven't stayed at others downtown, I would recommend, for myself also, that future stays are downtown. Good Experience in St. Augustine

Jan 8th, 2020

The location of the Double Tree is great. It's easy to get to all of the sites. They have a free shuttle which will take you wherever you want to go. The shuttle will also bring you back to the hotel. We took the night light tour given by Explore. This is a small vehicle rather then on of the large trams and we found it a perfect way to see the entire historic district. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. The room was exactly what you would expect from a Double Tree - no surprises there. The restaurant however, was a pleasant surprise. The food was very good and the service (Thanks to Sonny) was excellent. The chef even came out to touch base with us. I recommend this hotel and encourage you to try their restaurant! My brother and I had a great stay at the Double Tree. Everyone was kind and helpful. Kevin in the bar was especially nice. We also enjoyed our breakfast and staff was wonderful. Everyone helped us enjoy our time in St. Augustine. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
