Excellent location in Jersey City

Aug 24th, 2019

This hotel was in the perfect location for us to stay 2 nights prior to our cruise out of Cape Liberty in Bayonne. We chose this hotel as we are Honors members, but also based on the reviews we had read about the hotel on Trip Advisor. There was complimentary shuttle available for us, which we made use of, to get to dropoff points where we took the water taxi to either Manhattan or Ellis Island. Breakfast was included in the rate we chose and was plentiful. Many choices. Staff in this hotel were all wonderful. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Spectacular views of the city

Aug 16th, 2019

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the DoubleTree hotel. Room was large, clean, and very quiet compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at in and around NYC. Views of NYC are spectacular, and I recommend upgrading to the upper floors. This picture was taken from room 1117 in August 2019. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

DoubleTree in Jersey City: Meh

Aug 15th, 2019

We had two rooms for two nights in August, 2019, with a number of our family staying at the hotel at the same time. Prior to our arrival, it was a challenge to reach the front desk and the general # was answered by inept customer service reps - they could not tell me if there was a pool in the hotel, for example and after giving reservations confirmation #s, names and contact info, I was disappointed that our group did not get rooms on the same floor. Especially since I was assured this was not going to be a problem. We checked in at around 5:00 pm. No warm cookies and a rushed credit card swipe even though it was not busy. The rooms were okay, but nothing memorable. No make-up mirror, a hair dryer that had as much power as a spring breeze, low showerhead for someone who is 5'9", no local attraction guide and not even a packet of info about the hotel itself. There were free coffee packs - 2 per day with one artificial creamer. The mattresses got mixed reviews; one more thing to be counted as "okay." Housekeeping did a fine job. My advice: check very carefully what room you are booking. Some of the rooms are MUCH nicer than others. One of our group had a corner room with great views and paid less than we did! The free shuttle sounds great, but it is not managed well. We used Uber almost all the time because the staff could not say when the shuttle would return to take us where we needed to go and because the shuttle shut down at 9:00. On one occasion, one of the staff had a phone # to the driver to check on the whereabouts and told us that we would have to wait 30 minutes for a ride. This was surprising since the shuttle is supposed to be for short trips... We did take the shuttle twice. The drivers were very nice and we made sure to tip them. When we complained about the shuttle, our parking fee was immediately waived (maybe this is a standard practice), and that covered part of the Uber cost. The front desk night shift were lovely - I remember Mildred particularly; she gave everyone a cookie when we came back. The kids were happy about this! The restaurant was okay. If I had paid $22 for breakfast, I would have thought it was overpriced, but another guest in the elevator told everyone to pay at the front desk and it would be $15. This proved to be true - even for $15, the meal wasn't great but it felt like a bargain! In the evening, the bar was also nothing special. When one of our group asked for a minute before ordering, the bartender disappeared for 20 minutes. There was not a welcoming feeling. There was no pressure to buy anything and it was comfortable to sit and talk and have a few drinks. We will be back to Jersey City. Will we stay at the Doubletree? I don't think so. Nothing about our stay made me look forward to going back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

good experience

First time in Jersey City and went to the PGA golf tournament. Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms, great restaurants within walking distance with a view of NYC. I felt safe walking in the area. I would recommend it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
