Destination Wedding was AMAZING!!

I am a Travel Agent and I specialize in destination weddings. One of the toughest parts of my job is working with on-site coordinators across the world in different time zones. The on-site coordinators have a hectic schedule! Some of the resorts can host between 2-8 weddings PER DAY! They both coordinate weddings and then execute weddings with a small team. This review is a compliment to Daniela and team!! She was PHENOMENAL!! The hard part was being the Bride + Travel Agent + Wedding Coordinator for my OWN WEDDING. As you can imagine, I had extremely big expectations since I've been in the industry for so long. I am referring my bride and groom clients to Dreams Playa Mujeres, not just because the resort is SUPER beautiful and scenic and has great food, but because of the service provided by Daniela and the Weddings Team. Thank you so much for making life easy for us! I had 107 guests and it was seamless!!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Started great but dwindled

Our family Dreams Playa Mujeres visit, March 16-21, the good and the bad……. We arrived Monday afternoon to the airport and found the AMResorts shuttle to the hotel. Last year we took USA Transfers to Akumal, this time it was included in our price to use AMResorts, we will use USA Transfers for future trips. We stood outside the van area and waited, and after about 10 minutes we got a van and driver. We then sat in the van for 30 minutes waiting to see if they were going to take anyone else. USA on the other hand put us in a van and took us right away. Upon arrival we were met with the nice towels to clean our hands and face. We were staying in the villas so our luggage was taken and we were ushered to the concierge for preferred check in. We met with Roberto to get checked in. Super nice guy and very fun. He needs better AC in there as well as wall hangings or other noise capturing covers, it was very difficult to hear him because of the flat walls and glass. We got our keys and went to our room. The room was great as expected, two bedrooms, three bathrooms to prevent issues! Air conditioning worked well for the bedrooms, the main area never really got cold like the bedrooms. Our hot tub outside was always filled with lava. We would have to call each day to have someone come make changes, they would drain half the water and fill it with cold water. The next day it would be over 105 degrees again. We headed to get lunch and then the pool to start our vacation. Lunch at the buffet was quick and easy with no complaints ever about the food quality. Next stop was the pool, which we stayed in for about 5 minutes after being told to get out since there was now poop in the pool. We moved to another pool and stayed at that pool the remainder of the trip. Pool service was always great, Luis and Alba did a great job keeping everyone hydrated between bottles of water and mixed frozen drinks. No pool complaints our entire trip, unless you count the people who bring their own speakers so you have different music all over the place. Jaime was a great pool concierge and seemed to enjoy his job. Always helping find chairs, towels or open umbrellas. He did some handmade crafts for us that we took back home for souvenirs. He kept us up to date on what was going on around the resort each day. We split our breakfast time between Maris and the buffet, I may have missed it, but I didn’t see an omelet station like Akumal had. Plenty of fruit and other choices as well as hot foods to enjoy. Service was much faster here at the start of our trip compared to Akumal. Akumal every meal took 2 hours unless you went buffet. Playa Mujeres was much faster for sit down meals. We managed to eat at 4 of the restaurants during our stay, Towards the end, due to the travel restrictions the resort was almost shut down. First dinner was the Brazilian steakhouse, Gaucho Grill. We have had a few experiences at restaurants this style, nothing superb or splendid. We were first in so we were able to see all the food at the buffet area setup before being touched, presentation was nice. Our second dinner was Tres Colores, and by far our best meal and experience at the resort. Javier did a phenomenal job taking care of us. We checked the menu in our room and saw they had fajitas which is one of the kids’ favorite meals. When we were seated and handed the menu, it was nothing like what was on the tablet in the room. They did manage to create fajitas for us using the steak the had available. Let’s take a minute to talk about the steak. Seems like every restaurant that served steak, served flank, the exception is Fusion and L’Etoile. The steak was a terrible cut, just seemed like it was the cheapest and allowed them to offer “steak” on the menu. Javier was also able to find me an adult sized glass for iced tea. Something I always struggle with when going places is getting a decent glass for beverages. I’m sorry, the 8 ounce water glass isn’t cutting it. I asked after his 3rd time filling my glass to see if he could find a larger one. And did he, we have no idea where it came from, but it was great! His desert show for the banana desert was great! Wednesday was Fusion, like Akumal, if you want a seat, you’re going to sit at 4pm and wait and wait to get a reservation. As with pretty much every hibachi style restaurant, you can’t go wrong with it. Terrific meal, just make sure to double order everything if you want to leave full! Thursday, places were begging to close, several restaurants were closed going forward each night. Back to Tres Colores. This time we sat outside and had Diego for our server. Through no fault of his own and due to the reduction in staff, service plummeted. He was given the whole patio to work and was running ragged. Of the 4 of us, 3 ordered queso, we received a ramekin with basically a chunk of cheese because it had solidified. I asked for a larger glass for tea and he said they had none until we showed him the picture from our dinner 2 nights before. We didn’t bother with desert as we just weren’t satisfied with how things were going. Dolce served dessert that night. Friday was our last dinner, we were down to 3 restaurants to choose from, and went with French. Eduardo, fantastic job, he’s been there since they opened. The surf and turf was the special, you’d need 3 or 4 to get full if you only went with that, I knew better and ordered the steak, which was great. Desserts were fantastic, I had all 4, and the sorbet twice, a truly interesting taste. We headed back for our final night and the resort just felt empty. We get to our room; the door won’t open. We trek back to the desk and see what is going on. They said the keys were demagnetized. All four, all four at once being carried by 4 different people? Ok, get them redone, head back to the room, they still don’t work. I head back to the desk, my girlfriend finds someone doing bed turn downs. Her key doesn’t work. Turns out the battery in the door has died. One hour later they are at our room using a laptop to open the door. We woke up the next morning to head to breakfast before our departure. Closed, the buffet was closed, no notice no warning and now nowhere to get breakfast. We called the receptionist to see if they could check the airport to see if the restaurants were open. Cancun was under orders to close restaurants and bars so we weren’t sure if we could eat at the airport. No one at reception would do that. They suggested room service. We were leaving in 45 minutes so they offered us fruit, just fruit. No choice so ok, if there is no food at the airport it is 6 hours before we will be able to eat. Looking at the days board, pretty much everything was going to be closed, no buffet, no Tides nowhere to just get a quick bite. And NO communications to the guests about the closures. I wish we weren’t there are the start of the border closures, the resort, staff and guests all suffered. Our visit to Akumal was way different and we were hoping for something similar. Don’t get me wrong the resort was beautiful, the employees were fantastic but the overall experience was not up to par for what we spent. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nothing but excellent.

We enjoyed every single detail, the quick checkout, the attention from the concierge staff and the variety of everything! We did have a small complaint regarding cleaning staff, where we placed the room on DND and still people came in to see if there was anything missing, but besides that everything was excellent. Kudos for William (bar staff) he was so friendly and fast serving the drinks that we were amazed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful Resort with Wonderful Staff

We visited in March 2019 and came back in March 2020. The resort is beautiful starting with the initial view at the top of the steps looking out over the resort and beach. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There are a ton of pools and the kids area, including the gigantic water slides, is amazing. Most importantly to us, the beach is gorgeous. The seaweed was minimal. The service was exceptional. We could name 30 staff members to call out by name but I will name a few here: Adon, Pedro, Luis, Edgar, and Jeronimo with the breakfast and lunch service. Manuel and Julio at the buffet. Jesus with The Tides service. Ivan, Alejandro, and Diana at the beach front bar. Marguerita at Dolce. Roque, the life guard, who threw the football with our boys everyday. Eduardo as our nighttime waiter at Tres Colores and Maris. Uli, Dana, Fernanda, and Roy with the entertainment team. We are so thankful for the time we had there and we pray that this viral pandemic does not devastate this beautiful area and its people. Hoping we can go back again soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

It's A Pleasure

This place exceeded our expectations. From the cold hand towel and glass of champagne we were given upon arrival to the Latte from Tides on the last day... everything was perfect. The weather was great, but it was the staff that made our vacation. Everyone said "It's a pleasure" after they did something for you. It really made you feel like you were special. The Entertainment Team is exactly what it sounds like. They literally entertain you and the kids ALL day long. I told my son that if he stayed by Fredy the entire time we were there he is guaranteed to have a good time. That guy never stops! Manuel (pretty sure that was his name) had great treasure hunts by the pool each day that my daughter loved. He was also great at pool Zumba along with Jorge. We did a bike tour with Jorge and Kara. They did a great job. The tour was free and was a little under 2 hours and worth each mile. There was a show every night at 8:30. My kids were so tired, but wanted to go each night and it was always such a great performance. We spent most days by the pool or beach. Jamie the Preferred Club Pool/Beach concierge was great at finding us a cabana or chairs each day and Armondo was always right there with drinks. We did the Preferred Club and I do recommend it. There are a few perks that really make it worth it. My kids are 10 & 8. They tried the Explorer Club twice and both times I think it was a little to young for them. I wish they were allowed in the Core Zone to do some of the things in there during the day. We did the "Vacation Club" sales pitch. Anna was great. It says 1.5 hours, but it was 2. Had my kids not wanted to go to the pool so bad we probably would have signed up. We did the Isla Mujeres Catamaran and Dolphin Excursion. The catamaran and day on the island was great. The most memorable part of our vacation was swimming with the dolphins. We did it at the resort and they did an amazing job. I wish they lowered the prices on the pics bc it was $200 for the picture package, but thankfully we have memories to last a lifetime. My husband did get sick (24hr bug) from something so I recommend bringing some Tums and Imodium. We also didn't realize how strict they were on the dress code for dinner. Men need collared shirt and closed toed shoes. No flip flops. The food at every restaurant was great! We are early eaters so we got there right around 6 each night and never waited for a table or food. We didn't do the Hibachi bc we didn't want to wait in line for reservation. On our last day I was laying in my lounge chair with a drink in my hand, my husband next to me doing the same thing, watching our kids have a great time in the pool and thinking I honestly don't need anything else right now.. then someone comes along asking if they can clean my sunglasses for me ...
