wedding week

Jul 18th, 2019

First let me start by explaining that we went to this resort for a wedding. We arrived on the Monday and the wedding was on Thursday. The wedding was great.!! Ceremony was in the gazebo down by the beach. Our meal was very good, salmon, and was served on the beach by the gazebo. We had a small dance floor, Dj, and a photographer that was part of the package. They also had a friend as their own photographer. No complaints at all about the wedding. The room: bed was very comfortable, nice thick mattress. selection of pillows, safe, clothes steamer. There was only one bedside table and the ceiling light was near the door so it was hard to sit on the couch to read, but wasn't too much of an inconvenience. Water did leak under the ridge of the shower so we had to use 2 towels to soak it up. Clean and mostly quiet. Room cleaned in am and then turn down service. Restaurants: Gohan Sushi - sushi was excellent. Would have gone back to this one but the diarrhea started the next day. Oceana - seafood. I had crab cakes, salad and seafood lasagna. Noodles were overcooked but otherwise if was good. Clam chowder was the possible culprit for another in our party. Seaside grill, Steak - salad was very good. I had short ribs, hubby had steak both were good. Mexican - was ok, weakest of the restaurants we tried. Did not go to Italian. Buffet - pretty good selection for breakfast and lunch. Barefoot grill - pretty good pizza and burgers Pools: Adult pool was absolutely filthy. I expect some cloudiness because of all the sunscreen but the filters were obviously not working. Way too much particulate floating especially as the day wore on. Family pool - seemed actually cleaner but still cloudy. So when trying to swim laps, you were at the wall before you could actually see it. Lots of towels available and miracle of miracles, I saw staff removing towels from unoccupied seats!!! Bravo!!! Dolphin adventure - we didn't do it, but I suggest heading in to town and compare the one in Puerto adventurers as the water there seems much cleaner and clearer. Spa - had my hair and makeup done for the wedding. I was aware of the price beforehand, but I guess I thought I would get a little more than my hair combed under and sprayed, not even washed. and it didn't last 5 min in the wind anyway. Apparently, there was a room credit but didn't hear about it till we were on our way home, so no idea if I could have used it. Beach - if you like walking the beach, this resort is not for you. Very small. Also, a lot of weeds washing in. Totally, no control of the resort, and they seem to be trying hard to keep it at bay. The next resort was way worse as their booms and break walls were not working. Seems to be a problem for all that coast. Really didn't notice that bad a smell. Entertainment- we went to a few shows that were good and the had nightly entertainment in the lobby. The music in the Desires lounge was terrible, even the younger adults in our group wouldn't go there. There didn't seem to be an area, where you could sit in air conditioning and play cards. We were playing one evening by the adult pool but were asked to leave so they could tidy up. Lots of kids who seemed to be having a great time. Staff - all staff were nice, helpful and courteous and patient when I practiced my Spanish But: out of our party of 26, approx half became ill with diarrhea and nausea, one requiring hospitalization when home. I drank beer toward then end to avoid glasses and ice etc.. I question the procedure for washing glasses at the swim up bars. My husband did witness one staff leave the washroom without washing hands but he was unsure of his role at the resort. They need to put alcohol hand wash stations at the entrance to all the restaurants. Ice scoops need to be kept out of the ice when not in use. We went into town twice to eat because we weren't sure what was the culprit for everyones illness. Even Dukoral failed to protect two in our group. So in conclusion - wedding was great and our group had a nice time together but the sickness really spoiled the week. We won't go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great trip for families

Jul 18th, 2019

We had a fantastic time with family. Overall it was a great resort. We had ages from 4 to 63. The staff was extremely friendly. They remembered your name each day when they greeted you. Pros: Staff was fantastic. Isabell at Seaside Grille (yay!) and Jesus at the lobby were two that I'd like to shout out! The Italian restaurant was our favorite. Their steak was the best on the resort. Entertainment group-Brenda and Giovani had SOOOO much energy! They were amazing! I loved the sax player that played at the pool... he was excellent. The food demonstrations (paella and guacamole) were fantastic. Fun to watch them make them and eat it afterwards! Giovanni was a part of that as well and kept it funny and lively. The explorers club for the kids was amazing. We cannot say enough about the staff there and how well they kept the kids entertained with fun activities. They were very loving women. Shout out to Leslie, Mirna, Paty, Gaby, and Denise!!!! You guys rock! People on TripAdvisor complained about the sea grass. The employees worked their hearts out trying to remedy it. All we did is walk down the beach to the left of resort and swam there. Not a big deal AT ALL. Loved that my 8 year old grandson got the zipline. He loved it. Nice that the resort store had a 40% off night! What a great idea. My kids LOVED the room service and used it daily. They raved about the steak sandwich. Cons: They need to have an ala carte breakfast choice. Our room was so loud at night. We had to have earplugs and two noise makers. Drinks seemed weak. The only place for top shelf liqueur at the Italian restaurant and that was closed several days. Sometimes it was difficult to communicate. We had to ask for washcloths and hand towels 4x before we got them. All my family (I found out on the last day) had housekeeping 2 x a day for the turn down service. We did not. Not sure why because we had a better room than they did. Not many seafood choices for dinner like shrimp, scallops, or lobster. Not sure at Caribbean night why we had to buy a $60 bottle of wine to watch the show. The $200 voucher with each room was a joke. We had 4 rooms and no one could use them. Most resorts give you lots of options to use them. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Resort - we hope to go back!

Jul 18th, 2019

The only thing we would skip would be the buffet - which was fine for breakfast, but we preferred the other restaurants for dining. We LOVED the swing bar - and the hotel personnel couldn;t be beat. We really enjoyed this experience! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

July 18 2019

The tequila and jewelry tour were sold to us as a kid friendly event and it was not. And the swim up bar needs cosmetic updates. The tile was chipped and the seating in the pool for the bar was very rough. Our door manual lock would not stay locked when we tried to lock it. Labeled as a kid friendly resort but there isn't a clear list of activities for kids if they aren't in the kids club. Staff was very friendly. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Needs an update

Jul 17th, 2019

As a UVC member, the Dreams needs an update. Its shown when the hotel offers to send you to another hotel. The seaweed made the beach unusable but the pool needed a lot more cleaning. The food was average at best and I found myself eating from the kids menu. Will never go back when comparing to other hotels in the area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
