TODDLER ELECTROCUTION, ROACHES, ANTS, AND URINE
Aug 10th, 2020
This was supposed to be a family mini vacation for my birthday. I read all the reviews and honestly I’m baffled this dump (the nicest term I can think of) scores so high. We arrived to a broken pool & a roach crawling across the floor. Fine. We’re at the beach & they live here. Whatever. The refrigerator also didn’t work. The owner told us “the other people before you complained, too, but they said it worked better the next day.” Um, what? We packed a whole cooler of food for our trip and had nowhere to put it. I took the kids (5 & 2) to walk on the beach while my husband got our two dogs acclimated to the room. When we returned, as my 2 year old son touched the door jam with his left hand, he was electrocuted. Not just a static shock, ELECTROCUTED. It traveled through his body and into mine because I was holding his hand. I’ve never experienced anything like it in my life. I held my screaming toddler while my husband ran to grab the owner. The owner did not come and check on us. He sat in his chair - continuing his conversation with his “handy man.” Eventually my son calmed down. I regret not seeing a doctor immediately as my arm still has a dull pain in it and my fingers are tingly and I’m having muscle spasms in them. We plan to be seen at home. By this time I wanted to leave to find a new place to stay, obviously. However, it was late, past dinner time and we were all exhausted. We also had 2 dogs with us and not everywhere is pet friendly. The owner moved us to a new room. He’s still never moved from behind his desk. He never blocked off the room or area for safety. Upon entering our new room, we were hit with a strong urine smell. The bathroom was covered in pee. Tile floor, toilet, everything. There were yellow and orange stains all over the shower curtain. I used my own Lysol wipes to clean the entire bathroom and my husband got a new shower curtain we hung ourselves because “the cleaning lady isn’t back till tomorrow.” The kitchen also smelled stale, disgusting and subtly of urine. The “cleaning” lady obviously mopped some of the bathroom and used the same disgusting water for the kitchen floor. The stove was atrocious & was probably also a hazard. The “on” light never went off. The new fridge worked at least. Ants got into our food bag and ruined all of our snacks. The next day, I attempted to find a new place to stay. We could find zero pet friendly hotels with availability to accommodate our family & dogs. I wanted to go home (4 hr. drive) immediately. However, my 5 year old son was so excited to be at the beach. He would’ve been so heartbroken if we left, so we stayed. The beach across the hotel was closed due to an elevated level of dangerous bacteria in the water. The owner said that was “very unusual.” It’s not. This hotel is located in close proximity to a drainage canal (ew), so this beach being closed is nothing new. We ended up driving 15 minutes away both days to Cherry Grove Beach. It’s a much nicer place to swim. I dropped by the office to ask if the owner had any extra coffee filters. He told me the woman they pay to clean the rooms is “homeless” and they “take care of her.” He said she told him “very large, fat people” had the room before us and left it nasty and “peed everywhere.” ...... and this is the room he gave our family. One nice thing I have to say (One. That’s it.) is the pool got fixed & we enjoyed it both days. However, it had just received new water, so of course it was clean. It already began to look cloudy & neglected by the time we left. My birthday weekend was not what I expected. For our trouble, the owner gave us a $50 credit. I told him that amount was insulting and way too low. He did offer another $50. I declined & left the office. Probably should’ve taken it. Don’t let the nice reviews fool you. This place is a dangerous trash heap. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
A short weekend getaway

We booked here never having seen this place. The price was affordable and a wonderful surprise. Extremely clean and staff was friendly and very accommodating. Wanted to stay another night but couldn't. The beds were so comfortable. Would recommend this to anyone and plan to visit again. Upstairs our room was located with a big baloney with table and chairs. Very nice. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Small, quiet, amazing location, clean and affordable!

We called and booked our room and the price we were quoted didn't match up with the price upon arrival, but that is my only slight complaint. I suspected I wasn't being quoted taxes, etc. The location of this inn is amazing! The price was definitely worth it. A quick walk across a fairly quiet road to the beach. While there we visited a couple other beaches, but the one at the hotel was our favorite. The staff was very kind and helpful. There was an issue (not brought up by us) with a few rowdy college age kids who were using foul language and drinking near the pool and the manager took care of it quickly. It's a family friendly establishment. The rooms were clean, the kitchen super convenient, and the pool area was nice. The bathroom could be bigger, but it was only a slight problem. If we visit the area again I would absolutely book here. We spoke to another family who said they always book Edgewater. Beds were so comfortable and the tv was very nice. Loved it overall! Awesome Little Gem and PET FRIENDLY!

This is very quaint and lovely establishment. The Edgewater Inn is reminisant of the small beach motels of days gone by; however the ammenities are update and surpass some of the high dollar chain hotels. The motel is well kept, the rooms are very nice and clean. I was very suprised by the accomodations for the price. The property is in a good location, and is PET FRIENDLY! The staff and owner were above top grade, they went out of their way to assist us and make us feel very welcomed. I definately will return to this establishment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nice- low key hotel

We stayed there 2 nighting while visiting Mrytle Beach. Reminded us of 1960s style hotel at the NJ shore. Rooms were large and clean. Full size fridge in room. Nice pool Location is very convenient across street from beach. Staff friendly, no complaints. Price very good, and we like the small hotel vs mega resorts. We would definitely stay here again.
