Little sleep but best location

Sep 27th, 2020

Location gets a 5 and room (which we upgraded) was a 1. We stayed one night and would do it again. The location is tops. We walked the area, had a very nice meal in the dining room, sat outside and saw some stars and had a lovely visit...until it was time for bed. It is a grand old hotel with lovely charm. Our room had a queen and a view of the canyon. All was manageable except for the jet engine loud air conditioner. In hindsight, we should have turned it off and opened a window. Disappointed

Sep 14th, 2020

We went through the wed site listed although we had looked at prices on Price Line. The lady on the phone stated that they no longer had any rooms and we would need to book through them for the Thunderbird Lodge. The price was alot more than Price Line and it was for El Tovar where we really wanted to stay.We are very disappointed to have traveled all the way from Georgia to pay more and not stay where we wanted to. Share on you for taking advantageof people who are traveling!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Inhospitable

Sep 12th, 2020

Drove 7 hours, then took a train 2-1/4 hours, to finally see the Grand Canyon. They provide no meals on the train, so we’re dependent on this one hotel restaurant - or a food cart outside with hot dogs with no seating. After a 2-hour hike, we were hot, tired, sore and really looking forward to a decent lunch. But they turned us away - saying “we close at 2 pm”. We had arrived right at 2 pm. Wow - thanks. Your hospitality is overwhelming. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stay at one of the other South Rim lodges instead

Sep 9th, 2020

We chose to stay here over Bright Angel Lodge because of the air conditioning. In reality, the units don't really work that well on the really hot days anyway, and on the less hot days you don't need it. The hotel is historic and beautiful from the outside, but the rooms themselves are dated and have below-average furnishings and amenities. If you stay at any of the other South Rim lodges, you can still walk through the lobby, have a meal in the historic El Tovar Restaurant, and enjoy the exterior architecture, but you'll save yourself a whole lot of moeny. Beautiful right on South rim

Aug 31st, 2020

Beautiful hotel. Right on the south rim overlooking the canyon. On the day I was there when i was looking out at the view i saw a deer right on the other side of the wall. She wasn't afraid I think because she knew people wouldn't go past that wall. I didn't actually stay at the hotel but it is in the best location imaginable. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
