Above and Beyond Customer Service

Jul 13th, 2019

When I experience superior customer service, I have to share it with all. I had a one night stay at Embassy Suites - when I arrived they could not find my reservation. It was my own fault as I discovered I never actually hit RESERVE on my reservation. The 2 ladies working the front desk sprung into action trying to find me the best rate. In addition to that, there was a internet failure on some of the floors so they chose a corner room for me on a floor where the internet was working. I am a Hilton Honors member, but I feel like they would have done this for any customer in my predicament. The corner room was great and spacious - I wish I was staying longer than one night! The bed was comfortable - I slept like a log! I enjoyed the spacious bathroom and counter space as well. Because it was a short stay, I didn't use the gym or have breakfast, but my colleagues said breakfast was great. I will be back to Portland again so I will definitely be staying at the Embassy Suites and this time will actually reserve my room! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rooms

Bathroom had a ant problem and we were on the 9th floor Windows were dirty on the inside and out. Elevators are extremely slow at this location. If you are going to stay here try to stay on the lowers levels. A lot of sport teams stay here. Lots and lots of kids. Usually no pool towels and a lot of trash in the pool area. For the price and Embassy Suites/Hilton "brand," it could be much improved!

Jul 8th, 2019

We were a couple traveling with one 8-year-old kid for a weekend trip. PROS: free breakfast, complimentary happy hour, very friendly service across the board, free and abundant parking, clean room with a good amount of seating options, bed was comfy (only used the King size, not the pull-out couch) CONS: For such a HUGE hotel, they really need more space and a better organized breakfast and happy hour set-up. The hotel was very busy when we were there, and it felt like we were at a summer camp for families (with loads of kids). Staff did their best to keep up, but food ran out, dishes were hastily washed, and the food quality was average to poor. For the price we paid, which I know can vary, I expected better quality food. Room accessibility: We happened to be on the 3rd floor as far away from the elevators as you can get. There are only 3 elevators for this massive 9-story hotel, and no stairwells access the Lobby floor (why? safety? fire?), so using the elevators to get to the food, pool, and fitness center are required. The signage in the stairwells was also pretty bad -- i.e. no signs indicating which floor you would exit onto, or how to get out in a fire, etc. One of the handles to the stairwells was broken and hanging loose. Definitely would be scary in a true evacuation emergency. Also, the room doors are quite heavy and slam shut easily. My kid hit his toe pretty bad, and it would be hard for someone without a lot of strength to manage the doors plus any luggage. Noise -- again the hotel was very busy with lots of excited teenagers. I don't blame them for being excited and yelling, but it sure was LOUD! Inside the room: Why such small TV's? It seems petty, but the TV's really seemed tiny when usually hotels err on the side of way too big. Not enough hooks to hang wet stuff from the pool inside the bathrooms. Probably means the cleaning crews have a lot of puddles to deal with when people leave. Finally, pool and fitness center: My kid loved the pool, and it is really only big enough for kids to enjoy. As an adult, I had to distract myself from thinking about bacteria and germs from a space that seemed not that well-ventilated and a little grimy. Same for the fitness center -- needs better ventilation and space could be arranged to fit different/more modern equipment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Clean but noisy!

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. However, the insulation of this property must be rather thin and it seemed there was construction work going on - whereby we had people walking hard, running and pounding above us. It made for very poor sleep on a long driving trip. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
