For the price, I expected more...

Jan 27th, 2020

The pros: LOCATION - having access to Boynton Canyon was great. It was quick and easy to hike to the Kachina lookout, and the trails were well maintained. The view from the room was amazing... beauty all around, but that is true of all of Sedona. ACTIVITIES - the private beading class we took was the absolute highlight of our stay, ALMOST on par with the Grand Canyon, which is really saying something. We cherish the bracelets we made, and honestly, the instructor was the loveliest person we met in Sedona. We will never forget her. (ASK ABOUT IT - you won't regret it.) The watercolors class was fantastic as well; the artist was so kind to us, and my partner rates her experience very highly. The spa was beautiful to look at, but was really expensive, and the number of so-so reviews convinced us we'd be better off to book in town, which we did, and have no regrets about that choice. We booked at "A Spa for You" and it was fantastic. For the cost of one hour-long couples massage at Mii Amo, we received a two-hour couples massage and facial. Cons: Our overall experience did not live up to its 'world-class' reputation. At a hefty price tag of $450 a night, not including resort fee, I expected a room where the toilet paper holder is not falling off the wall, there are no scuff marks on walls, guests are given more than one spare roll of toilet paper (which is painfully thin, by the way), and bathroom glassware is not cracked and is replaced daily when maid service cleans the room. The dining on-site is not impressive (though the views most certainly are), especially for the price, and the 'disconnect' between Mii Amo staff and Enchantment staff poses a challenge for guests to figure out exactly who to talk to for different services and what they are and are not allowed to access at the spa. Multiple times I was told I needed to speak to one group or the other, and a luxury vacation should be seamless for guests. Fortunately, we don't go on vacation to watch TV, but for the times we wanted to watch a little something before bed or between activities, I've seen more extensive channel offerings at budget hotels. You can rent a movie, but it's $20, which is crazy. We had a Chromecast but couldn't get it to work, and the resort's wifi was spotty and a bit slow. We were staying for a special occasion, and I went to great lengths to arrange a romantic dinner before arrival, at sunset, at Che Ah Chi, noting the occasion. We got there and found out that there was no record of our reservation in the system at all. Surprise was blown, but the staff came through with free dessert, which was a lovely touch and redeemed the experience, which was otherwise pretty unremarkable. The food at the Mii Amo Cafe was totally lacking in flavor. You would think, for a $12 bowl of oatmeal, they could offer a little cinnamon or SOMEthing. The lattes tasted like they came from a mix. Because the food wasn't great, we actually decided to use the kitchenette more than we intended, but the fridge did not include a freezer, so unless you wanted to call a bellhop, there was a long hike to get ice. The Murphy bed was really not very comfortable either. All in all, if you don't care about value at all, or if your only desire is to immerse yourself in a 100% spa vacation and skip the 'tourist' activities Sedona has to offer, I'd say you can be very happy at Enchantment. For most people, though, I'm not sure it makes sense. I found myself missing the Airbnb we stayed at for the first half of the week. It was a quarter of the price, had a better kitchenette, a lovely view, and was much closer to all the activities and amenities in town that we wanted. ***Also to note... cellphones do not work most places at this resort. I was able to set up wifi calling (but wifi was not great) and texts just didn't come through. We were dealing with a sick pet back at home, as well as local activities that were texting me confirmations and instructions, so this was inconvenient.*** TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

DIS-enchantment

Jan 25th, 2020

Something is terribly wrong at Enchantment Resort. In every dining venue we attended, service was incredibly slow. One would think that on a Friday night, management would anticipate staffing needs. Each time, we waited at least 15 to 20 minutes for our server to acknowledge us. When that didn't happen, we had to seek someone for help and relied upon servers who were not assigned to our table. For breakfast, we relied upon a server not dedicated to our table. When our server finally came around after we'd ordered, he said he hadn't seen us seated at our table. It seems that the servers were serving more than one venue at a time. This was a birthday getaway my husband booked for me. He booked massages for us through concierge as well as a dining reservation at the hotel for my birthday. The spa treatments were booked, but the dining establishment had no record of the dinner reservation. When we did get food, it was quite tasty. The surrounding grounds are gorgeous. The new attendant at the women's locker room was dumbfounded on how to check me in. After a while of fumbling around (to the point I thought she might make me late for my treatment), she finally had an epiphany and asked me my shoe and robe sizes. She pulled name lists out of a drawer then returned them and told a supervisor who eventually showed up that she couldn't find the list of registered attendees (it was the same list she pulled out of a drawer then replaced without checking it). As I walked away, I overheard that supervisor counsel the attendant on how to ask for shoe and robe sizes when people present for check-in. When the supervisor took me to my locker, she noticed that there was trash inside it. Rather than give me a clean locker, she scooted the trash out and placed my sandals and robe inside. The treatment room was uncomfortably cold, but the table was heated. Great massage by Jerrilyn. The room (junior suite) was nice and amply stocked/supplied. When my husband called the front desk around 8:30 pm, the person on the other line was extremely abrupt and unhelpful. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic

Honestly, people giving this place less than 4 stars are delusional or smoking something they shouldn’t be. Location is simply superb. Waking up and seeing the red rocks alone is worth the 5 stars. We had a nice room with a fireplace which was an upgrade. Can’t say the rooms are modern but fit well with the hotel and the surroundings vibe. The staff is super nice and professional. We enjoyed the food - excellent burger and amazing brussel sprouts! Che A chi was ok. Worth the try but wouldn’t highly recommend dinner there, but worth a visit. However the service was superb. Zephan is one of the top prefessionals we’ve encountered. Again, the setting is a must. Boynton trail is great! After Devil’s bridge, it was a breeze! Spa services were great and you can also use the heated pool/whirlpool as a guest with no charge. Don’t hesitate to book this place. We will definitely recommend to friends and family. Would love to return one day. Great job Enchantment! You guys are amazing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing

Enchantment is mazing. Annie in the restaurant was so helpful and accommodating. I hired the running coach to help me train for race. Lindsey was incredible and we ran some spectacular trails. Roger drove us around the property on the golf cart and he was so kind. The spa was perfect and Joanna went above and beyond in reflexology. Overall the the experience was so pleasant and restful TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My favorite room , perhaps EVER!

Jan 17th, 2020

Wow! What a place! We are currently in Casitas numbers 150 and 250. When we first walked into 150 (incredible with a Bed by the fireplace) we didn’t realize that they had also given us a king size bed in 250 that adjoined us. So we each have our own shower. And let me tell you that along with the shower comes the shampoo, lotion, shower gel and lotion that they use at the Miiamo spa. Oh my gosh we made good use of it. We lathered ourselves with their lotion before bed at night. You’re not allowed to take any of the bath products with you but you are allowed to buy them for $15 a bottle. It’s heavenly! We both went to sleep in aromatherapy heaven from using the shampoo , cream rinse, shower gel and over abundance of lotion. Last time we went to Sedona we stayed at L’Auberge. That was probably 15 years ago. We did the pink jeep ride which we wanted to do again today but my husband had rotator cuff surgery at Thanksgiving so we guess we better not. Instead we sat on the back deck and did room service for breakfast this morning and we may do it for lunch too! The food is spectacular and very reasonably priced. After breakfast we came inside and sat by the fire and watched President Trump talk about the national championship. Congratulations LSU! And now we are being lazy. I am back in the bedroom watching Kelly and Ryan and my husband stayed in the den and is watching CNBC. This is one of the most memorable resort rooms we have ever stayed at. It’s more like a home than a hotel room! If you are in this area don’t miss out by not staying here! Charming can’t begin to describe this resort. On a funny note (because we are very casual people) my husband said I’m not sure if we belong here when we drove up. But the employees on the grounds make you feel so at home and welcome. A lovely young guy named Chase carried my luggage to the room for me. My husband ordered room service last night by leaving some kind of order form on the door handle. He said right up to the minute of when he asked for it to be delivered it was delivered . This resort is perfection in terms of service, decor, ambience and then of course the natural environment.
