COVID is no Excuse for Poor Service

Whenever I travel, I try to find a Marriott hotel because they usually offer the best bang for my buck. Marriott Fairfield is in a great location, close to the highway, McAlpine Trail, and many shopping venues. The suite option with a pullout sofa in a separate space is also nice. Having stayed there pre & post COVID, however, there is much that was regrettable. First, although check-in was supposed to be at 3pm, our room was not ready on time. Secondly, there was the fridge. I appreciate that a refrigerator is provided. However, every 2 hours you had to hit a button to keep it on. Our fridge did not function properly and I asked that the staff exchange it for one that worked in order to preserve our food. I was told that a working fridge would be provided and it never was. Thirdly, there was the lack of cleaning. According to the updated rules, room cleaning is not done unless a guest requests it and will be out of the room for at least 4 hours on either side. We put in our request a day prior, but when we returned at the end of a long day, the rooms had not been cleaned. Trash was left piled in the hallway and we had to request fresh trash bags. Fourth, the "complimentary breakfast" devolved to a bagel and a chewy bar. We were informed that water would be provided upon request, but Fairfield Inn ran out and apparently no one thought to do a Costco or Walmart run even though the stores are close by. Lastly, but for one exception, the staff was generally unfriendly and unhelpful. The gym being closed was not surprising, but it was disappointing that a way could not be found to allow guest access in a safe way. I understand that hotel accommodations have changed post-COVID, but certain standards should be maintained. Overall, our stay was not worth the price paid. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Undesirable.

The first thing we saw as we approached the hotel was a vandalized abandoned vehicle in their parking lot directly in front of the entrance. I immediately felt we made a bad decision choosing this hotel. When I asked the desk clerk about the abandoned car, she looked at me as if there was something wrong with me for being concerned about it. She said the owner has known about the abandoned vehicle for months but has chosen to leave it there. Our pillow cases, blankets, and quilts were all stained. I felt grossed out sleeping there. The shower and bathtub both had long hairs on it. The fridge had leftover food from whoever previously rented the room. it was also a very undesirable location. Will never stay there again. Great stay

Very nice hotel. Clean and comfortable with great staff. Comfortable beds. Everyrhing we needed. Good breakfast considering the pandemic, just wish tho they had more healthy choices. Coffee was good too TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Cole Calo

This guy is amazing at the front desk. Me and my boyfriend come down on the weekend to stay at the Marriott from Virginia and he makes us feel like we’re at home as soon as we enter the door. He’s always so friendly and going above and beyond to make sure we’re comfortable. Cole might not remember our name but he remembers our face and we appreciate that. I’ve never met someone who shows so much love for his job. I want to applaud him on an amazing job and to keep it up. I will continue to stay there and hopefully be greeted with his smile and making us feel like family. Thank you Cole for everything. He’s amazing!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Service

Cole was very attentive and professional. We stayed during the initial phase of the corona virus and he was the only person in the hotel, answering phones, checking in customers, etc. We will be staying again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
