An average hotel experience during the pandemic
Feb 13th, 2021
Keeping in mind decreased travel due to the pandemic, as well as a slowed economy that severely affects the hospitality industry, I can objectively say that my experience at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Macon on Sheraton Drive was... average. Check-In: I would say this is one factor that made me dislike my experience. When I arrived, it was around 7-8pm at night. No one was at the front desk. Not really much of a problem as I expect most hotels to have downsized due to the pandemic. Usually, about a minute later, someone in a room behind the desk would have noticed through security cameras that a guest is waiting. I felt like I waited about 3-5 minutes standing there doing nothing, and no one showed up until I called the hotel only to realize it only connected to the front desk phone and I felt stupid to think it would help otherwise. But luckily, someone in the backroom must have heard it that they finally showed up. The lady who walked me through check-in was a bit short and curt. While I understand times are hard, a little bit of politeness and courtesy goes a long way, especially if it's an expectation/standard set by the Marriott hotel brand. I don't recall being greeted "Good Evening" or even an small acknowledgement for my loyalty to Marriott as a Platinum Elite Member, just a quick command for my ID and card for payment. What really stood out as off for me was how she really looked like she didn't want to be there. And while my stay was only for one night, when I checked into my room, I noticed I was only given one keycard despite having myself and my boyfriend/2 guests for my reservation. This I felt was a display of a lack of attention to detail, and while I could have returned back to the front desk to ask for a second room key, I didn't want to bother based on my experience at the front desk earlier with an employee that seemed to have no interest in their job whatsoever. Room cleanliness: This was definitely a positive point for this hotel as for the most part my room looked sleek and clean, and it appears that the hotel has great housekeeping. The only thing I would say was odd was the birthday balloon stuck in my room's ceiling that it made me slightly question how well the room was cleaned or if it was just left there due to being out of reach. Free breakfast: In hindsight, one of the things that made me realize why this hotel had rates $15-20 less per night than even other Marriott hotels in Macon near the Riverside shopping center was because it's apparent they went very cheap on the hotel breakfast. While I understand that the pandemic has affected the bottom line for hotels, the breakfast offered at this Fairfield Inn and Suites I could say was an insult to guests and the Marriott brand itself. Just a small juice, a large muffin, and a fruit cup? Not exactly healthy either considering the high sugar content, and it's painfully obvious these items were bought for cheap buying in bulk, probably at warehouse stores like a Sam's Club or a Costco. In fairness, you could probably buy your own breakfast for just $10-15 out of pocket, which honestly makes up what I think would be the fair market rate for this hotel if the actually offered a decent "hot" breakfast and not a "cold" one. Check-Out: Easy, simple, did it through the Marriott app and threw my keycard into the sanitizing liquid bucket on the way out. And I was greeted out with a nice goodbye from another employee at the hotel that morning who I assumed was the manager as he was sitting in a room with a desk where the door was open. He seemed to be working hard that day, or at the very least was more diligent and proactive than the other employee who checked me in the night before. Overall: I consider the Fairfield Inn and Suites Macon on Sheraton Drive as an average hotel that could be better with just a few improvements. For one, ensure all employees make guests feel welcomed. And two, find a way to serve a decent hot breakfast, because it is one of the things guests look for at a Fairfield Inn and Suites. Bad experience overall
Jan 4th, 2021
I am a Gold Awards member and the desk clerk did not give me a high floor room as requested in my profile even though the parking lot was nearly empty. She gave an excuse that no rooms were available on a high floor. My early remote check-in did not help either. Our room was what we consider worst possible location, first floor facing parking lot and interstate hi-way. Complimentary breakfast was disappointing even for Covid cautions. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Fine for one night.
Dec 7th, 2020
On our way to Savannah and this hotel is off I-75 not too far from I-16. Checkin was fine except I wasn't offered a snack as a Titanium Lifetime. Did get two large cold water bottles. Our room was right across from the elevator, but it was pretty quiet and not many guests on Sunday night. Also picked some extra pillows at front desk. The facial tissue dispenser was almost empty, but front desk supplied a refill. Found that the swivel desk chair was broken and dangerous. Again, it was replaced by Hillary at front desk who brought up a replacement within a half-hour of reporting it. Neither of the two phones in the room had a dial tone so all communication with front desk was in person. I don't know if the room was supposed to have a microwave, there was a place for it, but there is one if needed in the lobby/market area. Plenty of electrical outlets including both sides of the king bed. Only USB ports were two at the desk on an easily accessible electrical strip with 5 AC plugs. Only ice maker was on 1st floor, we were on the 3rd. The mini fridge was big enough and extra cold. Freight trains run quite frequently on the East side of building with two whistle blows per train. Good price, helpful staff but poor breakfast Due to covid
Aug 6th, 2020
“COVID breakfast” said individual wrapped items but it was only muffins (very dry) and bruised bananas and apples, every day for a week. Probably better to not offer anything during this pandemic or offer yogurts, oatmeal, cereal, and unbruised fruit like other hotels are doing. We got an upgraded room (Premium member) but Wasn’t much different. Blood stain on comforter, hair and mold in shower. However staff was very nice and one of the cleanest parking lots I’ve ever seen. No trash anywhere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Room damage-Fraud charges
May 11th, 2020
Older property. Not quite sure how it is able to keep a Marriott name. If you stay here, take pictures of the room condition and notify management. I didn't think to and got "room damage" charges added to my credit card. When I called, the management tried to negotiate the charge. Smells like a scam. Marriott corporate is making it right. I will certainly read reviews in the future before making a reservation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
