Book elsewhere, Fairmont sacrificing experience for profit

Jul 3rd, 2020

Honestly could not be more disappointed with my stay at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. I was excited to take advantage of their loyalty program and BOGO night but after my stay, I believe there are much better hotels at better prices (even without the BOGO discount) with significantly better loyalty programs. First and foremost, I have no idea why they would fully book the entire hotel during this pandemic. Given that their amenities have been drastically limited, they still chose to book out every room in the hotel. We asked for a king bed a week in advance and they said they were unable to accommodate us given that they were fully booked. We checked in right at 4pm on Sunday and went straight to the concierge afterwards to book pool time (only allowed to do after check in) and it was already fully booked for that day and the next day until 9:30pm. The following day (the day of our departure) there weren’t any times available until after our check out time, which couldn’t be moved to a later time because of covid precautions. We opted for the only option during our 2 day stay for 9:30pm only to find that when we went, the hot tubs and pools were already packed. The hot tubs had limits for 5-7 people, and every hot tub had exceeded their capacity, with no staff enforcing the social distancing rules. Furthermore, although they required guests to show their card that verified their temperature check to access the restaurants and shuttle, we rarely got asked for the card. On the shuttle there were people who not only did not show their pass but also did not wear masks. The shuttle was always at minimum a 25-30 minute wait although they advertised 15-20 minutes, we had to take a taxi once after waiting over 30 minutes for the shuttle that never showed and calling the front desk twice. Our room was clean but our a/c stopped working one afternoon and it was boiling hot for a couple hours before it was fixed. Housekeeping services are no longer a daily thing because of covid precautions as well. I commend Fairmont for adapting during this uncertain time but I feel like they prioritized their profit over the comfort of their guests by booking to full capacity while reducing their amenities and services drastically. If I was aware of these changes, I would have chosen another hotel without a doubt. There are far too many options out there to settle for the subpar experience I had at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Mediocre experience

Jul 2nd, 2020

I had very much looked forward to taking a tranquil, relaxing weeklong break here after several stressful months cooped up at home. Unfortunately the property didn’t quite live up to my expectations. When one books at a Fairmont hotel one expects a premium experience for the premium price paid. Instead I found the hallways and public spaces crowded with noisy kids and their oblivious parents. Getting a table in the lounge or restaurant was well nigh impossible with the volume of guests. And the crowning achievement was the two-hour limit imposed on use of the entire pool/spa/health club complex. I understand that COVID makes additional cleaning and precautions necessary, but surely the managers should adjust their occupancy accordingly, rather than cram the place full and hope for the best! I won’t stay at this Fairmont property again, and I’ll think twice before booking at any Fairmont. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Do not book if you plan to use the pool

Jun 28th, 2020

We just arrived today only to find the pool is booked for our stay (we booked 3 nights). I had called the hotel before booking to find out the restrictions due to COVID-19 and was told we can reserve a 2 hour pool time when we check in only (could not pre book). We checked in at the check in time which is currently 5pm only to be told the pool is already booked up. Our kids are very upset and we would not have booked here had I known prior that this would be the case. The hotel has offered no solutions or compensation at this point except to waive the amenities fee which is completely insufficient. This has been the worst experience. I do not recommend booking here if you plan to use the pool. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Covid safety perfection

Jun 16th, 2020

As a cancer survivor, I'm a little on edge when it comes to Covid safety and barely left my home for 3 months. This past weekend, I visited Whistler Fairmont presuming they would be taking very stringent measures to ensure the safely of their customers. They nailed it. And the staff were all working so hard to maintain the level of service you expect while ensuring all additional Covid protocols were maintained. Too much to detail here but trust me, if you are heading to Whistler this summer and want to ensure you are safe and comfortable, look no further than the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Birthday Weekend Getaway!

Jun 9th, 2020

I recently booked a small getaway with friends up at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler to celebrate my birthday and just get away from the city. The hotel had only just recently reopened and with the ongoing public health pandemic in the world, they had enacted new policies and procedures to ensure the safety of not only the guests coming in to stay, but all of the colleagues that are working. In no way did these additional precautions take away from the world class service that the Fairmont brand is known for. During our stay we experienced two of the dining venues at the resort. We had dinner from the In-Room Dining menu and the food was not only amazing, but arrived quickly and the service from the staff member was so welcoming. We also visited Portobello multiple times during the stay. When the coffee and pastries are that good, you can't help but go back again and again. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is truly a landmark in Whistler and they live and breath the high standards that people expect from a Fairmont property. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay while up in Whistler! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
