Almost but not quite

Jan 20th, 2020

I'll start with the not so good and end on a high note. The biggest disappointment was the ground floor level of the hotel. The ambience of the ground floor is more like being in a hotel located in a shopping mall rather than a first class hotel experience. There is no grand living room/lobby for hotel guests to gather or relax in. All seating areas on the ground floor are in hallways leading to the luxury label stores that occupy the window areas facing the streets or overlooking the motor court entrance at the back of the hotel. Even the good sized restaurant and bar feel more like areas designed for the general public than areas devoted to the hotel guests. Another disappointment is that the whirlpool spa in the glass enclosed pool area was removed during the latest renovations. On the upside, the deluxe king room we were given in the 6th floor was spacious and nicely decorated in a traditional style. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom, which had a walk in shower but no tub, was on the small side, but did feel upscale, and there was a walk in closet area in the vestibule. There were nice touches like a nightlight in the bathroom and a motion sensor light in the closet. There were tea and coffee making facilities in a cabinet that also contained liquor and soda stocked in a small refrigerator that had no room in it to place any items brought by guests. The reception personnel we encountered were gracious and accommodating. I probably would not stay at this hotel again because of my dislike of the ground floor' public areas. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfect hotel

Jan 11th, 2020

Wethave been to vancouver a few times but this was the first time we had stayed at the Fairmont on Georgia. Beautiful hotel in an ideal spot for the city centre and everything else. Big room with well appointed en suite. We requested a fridge which was promptly delivered, lovely, quality toiletries and fluffy towels. High standard of housekeeping, pleasant, smart friendly staff all round. Decent swimming pool, good restaurant etc. Really enjoyed our stay here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The staff truly go above and beyond and the hotel is luxurious.

My husband and I stayed in one of the hotel's junior suites on New Years Eve and the entire experience was just amazing. We worked with Elliot Baker from the Fairmont to plan our stay and he truly went above and beyond to make everything perfect for us. The suite was gorgeous, the in-room dining we ordered was delicious, all of the staff were very gracious and the New Years Day Brunch Buffet was unbelievable. Excellent staff and beautiful hotel. We really can't say enough positive things. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

You get what you pay for - not.

The Fairmont is one of several hotels in Vancouver's downtown core I stayed at during the same week; it was by far the most expensive, but sadly not the best experience out of the bunch. Objectively, it wasn't a bad stay - the room came with all the usual fixings and amenities, all staff are very professional, the building is located very centrally and is very luxuriously designed on the inside. I'm not holding against the hotel that the water pressure on the higher-up floors is not the best; however it also didn't get hot. My sister described the temperature as the "uncanny valley of showering - too cold to be comfortable, not cold enough for a two-minute shower. The paint was peeling off the bathroom ceiling as well - not that it impacted my comfort level (unlike the lukewarm shower), but when a room is $300+ a night, the hotel lobby houses Luis Vuitton and Gucci boutiques, and the the hotel displays large sculptures made out of fresh flowers in the lobby, this is just the sort of thing that gets noticed. You can repaint a lot of ceilings for the money it must cost to replace a giant live flower arrangement every few days. I was left with the feeling that the hotel was more dedicated to make a expensive impression than to provide the most comfort to guests. I'd rather stay at a place that skips the gold plating and fixes their hot water instead. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Location and Staff

Excellent Location and Staff - Compliimentary upgrade to Fairmont Gold never hurts either! Staff were friendly upon check in and very pleasant while checking out. The Gold lounge was very busy that morning and we did not have a seat for breakfast so left and brought the breakfast back to the room. Overall a great stay! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
