Covid getaway

Sep 17th, 2020

With COVID having written off any plans to travel outside of Canada this summer we decided instead to visit one of our favourite Canadian cities...Quebec City. Any visit to Québec City isn’t complete without a stay at the jewel that is Le Chateau Frontenac. Having stayed here numerous times over the past two decades we remember well our previous stays fondly but with Covid restrictions we were a bit worried how the hotel and staff would pull things off. From booking to arranging dinner reservations through the concierge to our arrival and contactless checkin we were very pleasantly surprised. All the staff was very welcoming, they explained fully the procedures to be followed(temperature checks at least once a day, hand sanitizing stations well distributed around the hotels public areas to ensure ample opportunities to disinfect after arrival in the lobby and any interaction with gift shops and bar/dining areas. Seating for dining was well spaced out with plexiglass barriers in abundance. Wait staff were always masked and were able to strike a good balance between level of service without lingering unnecessarily. Everyone was pleasant and greeted us. From the lobby right up to cleaning staff. We had some purchases that needed refrigeration during our stay and Pierre was quick to offer the uses of the refrigerator/freezer in the lobby behind the concise desk to ensure our items did not spoil. Many thanks to all the staff, you have always excelled in our previous stays and you really proved what a first class organization you truly are. Highly recommend staying at Le Chateau Frontenac when in Quebec City. You will not regret it! Excellente et merci! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic hotel!

Such an icon in Quebec City! It is in an amazing location with the ferry right there and you can stroll comfortably around and browse shops and restaurants nearby. The food is incredible and we had such amazing servers like Michael and Annick. The rooms are nice and I had the river view which was awesome! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Probably the most beautiful hotel that I will ever stay Very clean well maintained and service that we experienced was second to none right from the moment we arrived to the time we left Food was top notch at reasonable pricing Location in historic Quebec City is ideal and the view is beautiful of the St Lawrence river and the historic city Five star rating well worth the cost Only complaint was the washroom was so small that you could not dry yourself comfortably unless you went into the suite itself and yes I am a tall person but I am slim Design of the bath is pathetic very uncomfortable to even use the toilet with such a tiny vanity as well no room to keep toiletries TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Girls weekend

Sep 9th, 2020

Me and my friends spent a lovely weekend at the fairmont. The hotel was amazing and the staff were very friendly. They gave us a lot of advise of fun things to do near by. We even experienced the hotels wine tasting. Apart from having to ask for robes in the room and the delay it took to get taxis, I really cannot fault this place. Would definitely return. A luxury experience in the perfect location

Sep 9th, 2020

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights on the top floor of the Gold Experience levels and would highly recommend this approach. Although more expensive than traditional rooms, the level of service was extraordinary. Although service is usually less important than the room in our travels, it made a big difference at the Frontenac primarily due to the Gold Lounge. This expansive area on the 14th floor is tastefully decorated and has stunning views over the city and St. Lawrence. Included as part of the Gold experience was a full breakfast every day. Coffee, cappuccino, tea, juice, bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, fruit, yogurt, crepes, etc. delicious and as much as you can eat. Then between 3 and 5pm canapes (free) and drinks (alcoholic extra) are served; again, this is more a light lunch than canapes. Taking advantage of these breakfasts and lunches was very satisfying and ended up saving us considerably on restaurants. The dedicated concierge was also very helpful in helping us to find a charging cable we had forgotten and it was nice to settle up the bill there as well. A big thank you to the Gold team! Our room (1705) was wonderful - very expansive, five huge windows facing the St. Lawrence, desk, large closet; smaller (no tub) but beautifully appointed bathroom. Cleaning was stellar and turn-down service with chocolate a nice touch. Room service was very good and prompt. The Frontenac is taking excellent Covid precautions; lots of sanitizer, max two people/one family in elevator, etc. Valet parking $40/night; not cheap, but very convenient. We took advantage of a Fairmont deal post-covid which brought the cost per night closer to $500/night + parking, etc. which I consider very good value. Full price, double that, would be a bit rich in my view but probably in line with other top hotels. My only disappointment was the $20/night resort/activity fee. Looking through the reviews now I see others have registered the same complaint. I booked over the phone and this fee was not disclosed at the time. Even if it was, an $80 charge over the course of our stay for things like yoga or mixology courses that we weren't interested in seemed unfair; either these should be opt-in or included for people paying four figures a night at full price. Overall, a wonderful experience and hope to be back some day. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
