Delayed Covid Honeymoon
Dec 1st, 2020
Im not much one for reviews, but after not having traveled outside of the US in about 15 years or more - I was really amazed by the honeymoon my wife had planned for us. After getting our trip delayed from March to November, everything still ended up working out in the end. Regarding Covid - The resort is insanely clean and sanitary with everything going on. Way more so than any place I have seen in the united states. All employees wore masks and goggles at ALL Times. I never once saw an employee not wearing their mask throughout the entire stay. The staff here - WOW insanely impressive in every way.. I almost felt embarrassed with how well we were treated as I have never experienced this before in my life. I had no idea what to expect when they assigned us a butler. Daniel was UNREAL- He absolutely did everything in his power to make sure our stay was as amazing as possible, I can not speak highly enough of this man and the amount of effort and energy he possessed. He planned all of our dinners, excursions, or literally ANYTHING that we needed and had a personality that made me smile everytime I saw him running around the resort. ( I just texted him and thanked him AGAIN! ) If Fairmont could do anything better, it would be to give Daniel a big fat raise. The beach was clean and spotless every day, the mangroves and jungles are just incredible. Not a single mosquito in a rainforest? HOW? Crazy. I watched them cut all of the hedges with MACHETES because they refuse to make noise and pollute with gas powered trimmers.. Electric boats, sail boats only etc.. Kudos to all of the employees and management of the resorts, we had a fantastic time and will certainly be back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Beautiful, Amazing Experience - Food, Beach, Pool, Service ... Everything!
Dec 1st, 2020
My husband and I just returned from an 8 day vacation at the Fairmont Mayakoba. It was absolutely gorgeous and our experience was phenomenal. I cannot stress this enough! The resort far exceeded our expectations. We had a signature casita suite with a rooftop plunge pool with a beautiful view of the ocean. It was my husband's birthday (a milestone birthday) as well as our wedding anniversary the same week. We were lucky enough to have David as our butler - he absolutely made our stay wonderful! He tended to our every need and made my husband's birthday so special (as well as our anniversary). He was so thoughtful and so pleasant - he really made our stay memorable and relaxing. We had dinner several times at the Italian restaurant with the most amazing food. Our favorite was the Burrata salad, clam chowder and special Bronzino fish. Our service there was impeccable every time we dined. We also loved dining at Brisas restaurant for breakfast - our favorite and most amazing server was Diane. Brisas was also so good for lunch (ceviche of course), as well as steak and fresh whole fish for dinner. Beautiful ambiance and amazing food. On the beach we had a fantastic time standup paddling, kayaking (no additional charge) and lounging with a beer and a margarita! Our favorite servers on the beach were Luiz and Hugo for their amazing service. One special mention goes out to David Sosa, a golf cart shuttle driver, who made us laugh and smile every time we were lucky enough to get onto his shuttle. He was so funny and happy -- and that boy knows his music and can sing! I also have to say that the resort's COVID protocols were better than the States. We felt safer there! We also had an amazing meeting with the Director of Operations Rafael Torres at the end of our stay and he was so accommodating and professional in every way. The Fairmont Mayakoba is a luxury, five star resort and we enjoyed every minute. It was so incredibly beautiful and we were sad to leave. We will definitely be back, this time with our entire family. Great, but some things to know to make it optimal...
Nov 30th, 2020
We had a great time here! I wanted to share some things with future travelers to help make their visit great! This we did, things we wish we did... COVID: There is a risk of covid wherever you travel, but we picked this resort over others for a couple reasons. The casitas mean you have your own entry and exit, and aren't sharing recirculated air with other travelers. Additionally, most of their restaurants have outdoor seating. They did a nice job with mask wearing, sanitizer, etc. It felt as safe as one can feel right now. What to know before you go: I recommend working with the concierge to get your reservations made in advance, especially for the first day or two of your trip so you can get the restaurants you want at the time you want. We worked with Deneb and she was outstanding. We recommend booking the following before arriving based on our experience: - Dinners for each night you're there (you can always change later if you need to, but at least you have what you want) - The bird watching boat tour. This is a free boat tour, we were lucky to get Oliver who really loved the birds (and had his own collection of photos he'd taken). - The catamaran tour. They take you out on a hobie cat for free into the ocean. For $50 you can turn it into a snorkeling tour, though for that price I'd suggest going to Puerto Morelos and doing a snorkeling tour from there. Also be aware this is a sprawling resort so the casitas are far from the beach. Their golf cart transportation and bike systems work well, but it's quite a long walk otherwise. We participated in their "Pack with a Purpose" initiative, I'd encourage you to do the same (Deneb showed us some pictures of their donations/service). Don't overlook the food at the Hix bar. It might have been our favorite. Order all the desserts, they are all amazing, and make sure to get the french toast at the breakfast buffet (which is not really a buffet due to covid, but stations serving different food). What we wish we'd known before going: You are in a jungle (which we really liked) but that means mosquitos. I was spared, but some of my family members had upwards of 20 bites by the time we left. The resort has natural insect repellant, but if you have problems with mosquitos you will want to bring some repellant with a stronger ingredient like DEET. The "nature trail" is not exactly very natural. It's usually flanked by roads with loud vehicles going to and fro, and the paths around the resort property actually seemed more naturey. We woke up early one morning to see birds, and there were none, the cars maybe chase them off. They say you can't save beach chairs, but it seems to be common. Many people would go get beach chairs in the morning, then go eat breakfast at Brisas, then head back to the beach. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Second trip this year- #1 in the Riveria Maya!!
Nov 29th, 2020
My wife and I just love the Fairmont Mayakoba!! The hotel is easy to get to, the grounds are beautiful, the beach is pristine but once again it is the staff that make it so special! The wonder greeting you get upon arrive with people like David Briseno and Amadis, or Fernanda (who is a gem) at the check-in, to all the wondering people working the hotel lobby bar with your welcome drink, Arturo who takes you on a tour of the proprty. At El Puerto ask for Filiberto, at Las Brisas ask for the manager Jorge Montero, the beach team with Tristine is also outstanding including Hugo who is the man when you need the perfect palapa. Diego and Alejandro at the beach bar and the guys who work the beach work so hard to please you from: Edy, Oasis, Oscar, David, Levi, Salvador, Heber, Luis all are rockstars!! The Covid safety protocols that everyone working at the hotel are adhering to make you feel safe and done in a very professional manner. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Great Beach Vacation
Nov 28th, 2020
We recently stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba for Thanksgiving. Our family stayed at the beach villas. It was an incredible trip made possible by our fantastic butler, David. David organized all our reservations, transportation, and activities. He also made many recommendations like taking a boat ride or having dinner at the pop up beach event that ended up being our favorite memories. He made our vacation seamless! The trip would not have been nearly as good without him. Thank you for such a great trip David! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
