Unhelpful staff

Jan 19th, 2020

My Husband & I visited for lunch with a view to buy a gift voucher for our sons 50th birthday. Food was good but service was poor due to lack of staff. When enquiring about vouchers we were told everything was on line. No Brochures, no help on what would be available. On booking on line and not being able to find exactly what we wanted,I contacted the hotel to be told someone fron reservations would contact me to discuss it. I am still waiting!!. Not what is expected of a 5 srar hotel. Needless to say, we have booked elsewhere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic Stay is a Brilliant Hotel

Jan 19th, 2020

I had a fantastic stay in November 2019. The whole stay was great, from the warm and welcoming arrival with the concierge and reception team members all the way through to check out. My friend and I stayed in a stunning deluxe sea view room overlooking the bay and the clubhouse, it was perfect, having all the five star amenities, a high standard of cleanliness, and I also really appreciated the focus on a greener environment. Well done to the Accommodation team!! The Fairmont St Andrews is a stunning location to hide away for a night in the middle of winter. During our stay we had lunch in the Kittocks which was great, highly recommend the club sandwich! Breakfast in the Squire was brilliant also. The renovation of the public areas and the bathrooms really showed, it was a lovely aesthetic. I’d like to give a special mention to Rudy from reception and to Philip the Director of Rooms who made it a brilliant stay! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ruff times

Jan 19th, 2020

Having stayed at the Fairmont a few times in the past, I was keen to book for our silver wedding anniversary. However it became apparent that this once dog friendly hotel is now rather less so. Dogs are not permitted in any part of the hotel except the room and the choice of rooms is also limited. There is also a £50 extra charge per night which seems punitive compared to other hotels. A far cry from the days you were greeted on arrival by the general manager’s lovely golden Labrador at reception. Other places serve food and allow well behaved dogs to accompany owners and I’d have thought such an accommodation in at least one part of this very large and spacious hotel could have been found. Disappointed not to return to the Fairmont we have however found equally lovely accommodation in St Andrews with a friendlier dog policy. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Outstanding and friendly service

Jan 17th, 2020

Just stayed for two nights mid week...in a twin room with a pet Labrador, The room was clean, and well appointed. The staff were very friendly and it was clear used to dogs staying. Breakfast is good although they should add Loren sausage to the breakfast buffet. Meals and wine very reasonable priced and a great shuttle bus in to town...that also took the Labrador, TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Impeccable Staff!

Jan 17th, 2020

We stayed here for 3 days and I can hand on heart say that every moment of being in the hotel was perfect! They say that the staff make hospitality and in the Fairmounts case it is so so true! Every single member of staff greeted us with a friendly smile and were always prepared to go above and beyond for us. When we arrived we had Brittany check us in and she was incredible! We had never visited St Andrew's before but Brittany gave us a map of the town and such a detailed guide of what we should see, where we should visit and even recommended restaurants and bars in town, she could have quite easily only recommended the hotel dining but instead gave us all the options. Then one of the concierge's (I believe Guy) then helped us by pointing out exactly where we needed to park in town to avoid any parking costs. The whole check in process was smooth and effortless and the staff's knowledge of the local area was second to none. The first night after travelling we didn't want to venture far so decided to eat at La Cucina (Italian Cuisine) in the hotel and again the service was brilliant! Our waiter, unfortunately he's name slips my mind, was amazing and gave us such a delightful evening recommending the best dishes and wines. The food was incredible and the atmosphere, even though the restaurant wasn't packed, was still joyful and inviting. The next day we did go into the town and used Brittany's map like a bible and we had a fantastic day at the Castle and Cathedral. Since we enjoyed the hotel so much the night before we decided to try the Bar and Grill (steak and seafood), this by far was one of the highlights to our stay. Our waiter Laurent was absolute perfection! He sat us down in the Clubhouse and although it was pitch black still pointed out the shinning lights around us. He asked about our trip, where we had been and what bought us up to scotland which I thought was a really nice touch! When ordering, he remembered our order perfectly without writing a single thing down. When ordering wine he made sure I knew exactly what the wine's taste was so that I could pair it perfectly with my meal. Any questions we had, he just knew the answer and could assist us best! He was also laughing and joking with us which just made for a really enjoyable evening. At the end of the night we were the last in the restaurant so he came over and asked for our music requests so that we could listen to what we wanted and just like that we had our choice of sing-a-long songs playing in the background! Everything about the evening was perfect and again just another impeccable experience for us in the hotel. The morning of check out we discovered that we were having some tyre trouble so asked at reception if they could point us in the direction of a garage to pump up our tyre. In fact we ended up with Charlie the concierge bringing out his tyre pump and pumping up our tyre - didn't even have to leave the hotel! There was no hesitation he was there ready and willing the climb on the floor to help get our car back to a fit state to drive. Not a single thing was any trouble for anyone in the hotel! Every single member of staff we encountered went above and beyond for us and it was carried out with complete joy and passion for helping people. The managers at the Fairmount should be incredibly proud of the staff they have as they are the reason we will certainly be returning to the hotel in the future. Thank you so much for such a perfect stay! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
