BED BUGS! DON’T STAY
Aug 30th, 2019
Electronic key pad does not work and locked us outside. Elevator does not work my 83 year old father had to do 6 flights of stairs and my brother who is handicapped. Worst place infested as we discovered on day 2 with bed bugs. Owner does not answer phone or return call so we had no options to get resolution or refund. Almost 300 EU not worth it! Old, Tatty with...Bed Bugs - the Owner had to move us.
Jul 30th, 2019
We flew in around 9pm...taxi driver had been arranged, but he could not find the apartment. Eventually, through google maps & phone calls - which were answered - we got a lady to meet us & show us in, past the Tai 'massage' parlour & into the apartment. It was old & tatty, but looked clean. After the first night, I noticed beetles crawling up the walls behind my bed...didn't know what they were...I woke up in the second night to find them in the bed with me! Yup...bed bugs, a real infestation. We texted the owner & told him...making sure he knew we had pics. Within 20 minutes he had actioned our move to another apartment. That one was still in the block - but renovated & nicely decorated. There was a state-of-art washing machine & any bugs hoping to hitch up were killed in 60 degree washes. The wardrobes were filled with old musty bedding - & the sheets, although laundered still had the tell tale stains of bed bug habitation...I had wised up by then, & kept off the soft furnishings (google these bugs, & learn - they aren't just for filthy places). We were only in Budapest for the week - but I found that I was marking time until we got home, after that experience... We got the airport bus back to the airport, after cancelling the arranged taxi, because we knew the place was so tricky to find, & we didn't want to risk our flights home. All in all, a holiday governed by unfortunate accommodation, and my difficulty getting over it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!!!!!

the whole thing was an absolute nightmare from the word go. I was never able to get in contact with anyone so we went to the apartments ‘blind’ so to speak. When we turned up, there was no reception which we knew, no one waiting for us and a locked gate which we had to ask a resident to let us in. When we did get in, there was no sign indicating there was accommodation there and one of the residents abused us because ‘she hates the company and the guests disturb her and her family.’ Of course this interaction confirmed that there is accommodation - it was just a matter of finding it. We knocked on doors and one of the other guests answered and told us that we will just have to keep calling until we get ‘the guy.’ Sometimes it takes awhile they said. They gave me a number which I called and was further abused by a Mr Lenard telling me that he doesn’t want to be disturbed by me and to stand by the church and wait for a lady to come and give me the key. (What church? Where? But he just hanged up on me.) My sister and I went together and left our husbands with our kids and found what we thought was the church and waited until the lady came who then asked us to follow her to get the key (?) We followed her AWAY from where we thought we were staying for 20 minutes until we came to a random apartment on the other side of the square. She told us to wait here and left us to get the key. She returned 10 minutes later and by this time we were feeling really unsafe and suspicious (new city and all.) We went into the cafe next door and asked the girl at the desk if she knew anything about the accommodation. She said we were the third lot of guests in a week that had turned up confused and expecting to stay closer to the main city square. We went upstairs with the lady who wanted to show us around the accommodation first. I was appalled at what I saw. It was nothing like what is advertised. They had a sofa bed in the lounge and in the next ‘room’ were five beds lined up next to each other like communal sleeping. The blankets were tattered and worn, the place was dirty and musty, the floor hadn’t been vacuumed in goodness knows how long. I told her that this was not what I’d booked and not in the location it said it was and all she said was ‘well we don’t sleep nine so ....’ and then told me to leave the key on the table when I leave. I tried to ask her who I could call to get help but she insisted she didn’t speak English and left. We spent the next two and half hours on the street in the heat with our children trying to find wifi (the SIM cards we brought at the train station on arrival wouldn’t work.) I had to switch back to my NZ SIM card and ask to boost my data just to find alternative accommodation. DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!! Please see my photos below - it is false advertising and not at all what they advertise and the manager is aggressive and makes threats if you ask for a refund. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

they did not answer to email and to many telephone calls for the check-in. From the restaurant behind they say it is an arab guy managing it, he was just in front of the apartment (found after 30 minutes, the apartment is not easy to find) but he told us that the apartment was in another building. I had to find another hotel at double price!! and they say to Expedia that I never called and that someone was waiting for me!! Stay away from this fraud!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Let's start with the obvious stuff before we get to the lies and the threats from the owner. First of all it is not easy define, down a clutter passageway behind massage parlours. you will get the impression the rooms are also available for short term use. There is no lobby, and access to the apartments is through what appears to be a rather insecure fob system. Per the offer they say there is an elevator available. What they do not say is there is an elevator in the building but it will not necessarily get you to your room. And they claim that they offer a Select Number beds is completely false as the mattress was old and barely comfortable and definitely not adjustable by a select number. The rooms appear relatively clean and well kept, but all it takes is one spider skittering around the bed at night to keep you from getting any sleep. There is no obvious way to control the temperature in the room. And after 20 minutes of searching for a way to warm up the cold room in this relatively small apartment, I gave up. So that is all the basic stuff when it comes to a mid budget rental. What makes this place a deal killer is the management. While I was in route from Romania about noon I received a call that did not complete and then a text from the hotel asking if I would check in that day. Once I got to a station where my phone had reception I called back and said I was on a train that will arrive at 9:30 and I would be there after that. Due to a long delay at the border the train actually arrived at 10 p.m. Almost as soon as I got off the train I was called by them to ask my status. I said I had just gotten off the train and was on my way. The owner acmknowledged that then told me there would be a €30 with a late check in after 10 pm fee. I did not respond to that statement because there was nothing about that in the rental agreement, and I figured it would be resolved when I arrived. Once I finally got to the room with the assistance of someone to help me up the steps, he asked for the €30 and I said that was not in the agreement He called the owner who proceeded to yell at me, said I was ruining his Christmas, said it was not about the money and he was far richer than I, claimed I dis not read the agreement like everybody else, and if I did not pay the late check-in fee he would lock me out of the room and I would have to pay to get my stuff. In the same statement he said he would send somebody to collect the money from me so have it ready. Now the part about locking me out of my room was definitely a threat, the part about sending somebody to collect it sounded like a threat but might have just a contextual cultural misunderstanding. From the tone of his voice though I am pretty certain he was trying to scare me instead of making me laugh. The next morning his man arrived to collect the money, I said it was nowhere in the contract I had agreed to so no. The guy pulls out some printed documents of their online rental agreement where it says there is a late fee in additional options. Since when is a late fee and additional option? I am going to suspect that it was added in after the conversation ended the night before. Needless to say I left that morning. I called Travelocity about the issue, they spoke with him and said he claimed he had never threatened me, of course he would say that, and that I had called him and said I would definitely be there by 10 p.m., not that I had called them back and said the train was arriving at 9:30. When I checked into the new location a few hours later, I was informed this is apparently not an unknown situation with this location. So to wrap, make sure you check in early, don't mind the bugs, the cold rooms, or the potential short term renter renters just getting a massage, and try to avoid any conversations with the owner. I am sure it is obvious by now, but I would give this place a negative rating if I could. To note, I end up in a cheaper better place for the remainder of my stay. So I guess in some ways I should be thankful for the threats as I would have tolerated the rest. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
