Covid is no excuse of Communication

Nov 20th, 2020

My ROOM was not cleaned due to Covid 19 enforcement AND a lack of adequate protocol procedure. What was delivered was way below what I have grown to expect from Fort Young Hotel. There was a break down in common communication. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Covid Diving trip

Nov 15th, 2020

I spent 7 days/night at this hotel this past week. We had to have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arriving. Wwe then had to take a rapid results test at the airport. We then had to take another PCR test on day five, which for us meant we were NEVER allowed to leave the hotel AND we didn’t get the results back so it was a total waste of time and money! We were the ONLY people staying at the hotel yet the service was typical island SLOW SLOW SLOW! Each meal had issues from over cooked eggs to under toasted toast. The big issues which was never fixed was the air conditioning. The compressor for all our rooms tripped the breaker all week, usually in the night leaving us in hot rooms with no relief. Even though we brought it to the attention of the management multiple times during our stay they failed to fix the issue. We were able to leave the hotel a few times with a taxi guide. Clem was super friendly and very knowledgeable of all things Dominica. His daily adventures gave us some relief from the hotel and its problems. The diving was amazing! Some of the best and healthy coral I have dove in the past 10 years. Excellent walls that go down into the abyss. We also enjoyed spearing 30+ Lion fish daily which the hotel made for us nightly for a fee. All in all considering how difficult it is to go any when in these times we were satisfied with the trip, the diving and the rugged beauty of the island country. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Spectacular Diving

Mar 16th, 2020

The dive shop and Francisca were AMAZING, she had everything organized and bent over backwards to accommodate us!! Fort Young Dive Shop is currently partnering with Dive Dominica which is out of Castle Comfort. Bert did an open water and an advanced cert for us (his first advanced certification ever!!). Diving was great, we did 10 dives plus a night dive and wish we could have done more. Cruise ships in most days, but other than obscuring our sunset view we barely noticed. The snorkeling sites do not overlap so we basically had the dive sites to ourselves. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best place to stay in Roseau

Mar 11th, 2020

It takes a long time to get here from the airport but the place was good and the food was good. There's whale watching on a Sunday so make sure your trip includes an entire weekend. I didn't this time but will make sure to do it on my next visit. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfect location...but poor supervision.

Mar 3rd, 2020

The fort young hotel is the perfect location. It is in the middle of the city and guest can enjoy walking around which is safe, however the supervision is lacking specifically in the restaurant and the front office staff are not professional or doesn’t seem to know what they are doing. Let me begin with the restaurant: In 2017 I met this young lady who was assisting me plan my wedding and she was very professional dealing with events, unfortunately I was unable to have my wedding because of hurricane Maria. I visited the restaurant some time last year and she was working there she was so professional and warming and knew exactly how to deal with the staff. I was very disappointed that when I returned in February for the carnival she was no longer there, I was told that she resigned and I was very saddened by this. I believe her name began with M, I think it was Martha or Marsha or Marshal. She was a gem to the company and I think this is one that should have been kept. The old staff such as Jericson James was no longer there and she was one of the only best staff remaining along with Albert. Now there are two ladies one who is older and always grumpy and disrespects the staff and the other very young and needs A LOT of training since she seems to be afraid of her own shadow and always looks lost. The young lady in Events, Ms. Roque needs additional training in customer service because you all will lose a lot of clients with that type of personality she has. The supervision at the restaurant is lacking, there is a new Spanish guy who doesn’t know much English and no one seems to understand what he is saying. He may have experience however it doesn’t show. At the front office all I have to say I get rid of all except Amie and the pregnant young lady who are very professional. The two others should be replaced immediately. All in all, Fort young is an amazing place however the staff doesn’t seem happy. I plan on having an event when the new structure reopens however I think I need this young lady that you had left in events to assist me as opposed to Ms. Roque. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
