You Really Should Reconsider...

Feb 18th, 2020

I’m afraid I must add my poor review to those recently posted. I guess, the manager, Gloria Nares, has been so busy commenting on these reviews that she cannot respond to emails or phone calls directed to her personally. More on that in a minute. In addition to the issue we faced upon check in on 1. February-waiting for about 30 minutes because there was some sort of technical issue with the computers-we finally got to our room and when I closed the door by placing my hand on back of the door instead of the handle, I came away with a hand full of grease! Apparently, the door hinge located at the top of the door was recently oiled and the residue left a large, greasy smear all the way down the door! A call to maintenance took care of this but seriously?! Why was the room presented as “ready to rent” with an issue like this? We left the hotel (which does have a lovely location across from the beach and the amusement pier), had dinner, walked around the pier area, and returned about 9:00 pm anticipating an early bedtime to be ready for our cruise the following day. In the lobby, we noticed a sign advertising fried shrimp and hush puppies for the dinner special. When we entered our room on the third floor and opened the bathroom door, we were hit with a wall of fried oil smell! My husband (an engineer) and the maintenance man we called back up to the room determined that the vent was not venting in the correct direction due to air handlers elsewhere in the hotel not behaving properly. Although the maintenance man could definitely smell the horrible fried grease smell, there was nothing he could do about it. Fortunately, a room on the first floor was available, and we packed up our things and moved rooms. And the front desk person informed my husband that he would receive 10,000 Bonvoy points for the inconvenience. Upon check out the following day, I mentioned to the front desk clerk about this and took the business card of the manager, Gloria Nares, to follow up if necessary. We are also lifetime Titanium Elite members and whenever there is an issue with a stay at a Marriott property, it is handled promptly and usually with a deposit of points into our account. Not the case here. Two weeks after our stay and back home after our cruise, we still have not heard from Ms. Nares. My husband called several times and emailed her. As mentioned at the beginning of this review, she must be very busy. In conclusion, I would advise people to stay elsewhere. The hotel is rundown, as others have noted. When problems are brought to the attention of staff, promises made are not kept. Brand loyalty is not rewarded and customers are not valued. Final note: the amount the hotel charges for the shuttle service to the pier is criminal! $9.00 per person each way! A Lyft ride for myself and my husband was about $7.50 for both of us! Read the other recent reviews...they are not exaggerating.

The hotel is in a great location, right across from the Pleasure Pier on Seawall Blvd. I rarely stay at any non-Marriott properties, and am a lifetime Titanium Marriott Bonvoy member. I stay at Marriott because i can (almost) always count on a nice room at a reasonable price. This hotel is the exception. The price was very competitive, but this hotel is very run down - it needs a total refresh. I usually stay at the Courtyard further down the street, which is newer and much nicer, but i wanted to give this place a shot. The property photos make the property look much nicer than it really is. The front desk clerk "Melissa" was very friendly. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Marriott should take their name off this hotel!

Feb 16th, 2020

I booked this hotel through the Marriott website. In over 350 nights at Marriott or Marriott affiliated hotels, this is by far the worst. Old, run down, dirty, smelly...yuck. The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Hey Marriott....either renovate or sell this place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

There is nothing right about this hotel!

Feb 9th, 2020

From check in to check out, nothing happened with grace. I try my absolute best to give a bit of latitude for problems, as long as there is accountability, and they seem like genuine logistical problems. I started out thinking this was the case when I arrived to find they were having system problems which caused them to not have reservations for anyone. They had to rebook every reservation upon arrival. From there, it was a strictly downhill roller coaster ride. The room, and the hotel, need a major renovation. The age of this location comes shining through. The breakfast, at first, seemed to be a little more robust than typical, but that was short lived. Breakfast time was a pitiful experience. I stuck in there the first day, but the second day I left to head over to Waffle House. Housekeeping was completely subpar. Typically I will ask for no cleaning so I don’t get to evaluate housekeeping much. Well, wrong, I typically do ask for no cleaning, but many times they come anyhow. In this case, I did not get to ask for no cleaning, but I really didn’t need to I guess. They did not bother to come. Everything from the sink handles to the misaligned wardrobe leave me wanting much more here. The location to the beach, and to the port must be what keeps this hotel open. This hotel is adjacent to Pleasure pier, and sits in the middle of the action on Seawall. In short, I would prefer the Courtyard, or Townplace down the street, but they are far down the street. Upon returning, this would literally be my last choice. I would have to make a serious choice of convenience to the area, or severely subpar accommodations. Hmmmmmmm... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Run down hotel

Jan 31st, 2020

Run down warn out hotel, not a good choice! We had reservation for 3 days, but found other accommodations after 3 hours there. Broken lights, dirty, smelly room that a maintenance person was running an air wave sent fan when we entered the room to hide the smell TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
