Kind people - needs some love

Jan 8th, 2020

I stayed at the 4 Points Sheridan this Sunday past. Check in aws great. I booked my space through that day and had no issues. The gentleman at reception was great. After checking into my room I decided to check out the hot tub. I would recommend not doing this. About an inch above the water level there was a line of grossness, dead skin cells and dirt all the way around. It made my stomach churn...since i didn't notice of course until I was in the tub. I didn't last long. Then there were no towels in the swimming area and I had to drip wetly into the fitness area in my swimsuit to get a towel. Less than ideal. Flash forward to getting ready for bed. My bed didn't have a fitted sheet. Just a VERY think flat sheet that was so worn, I could see through to the mattress pad below it. The hotel is also rather loud. They very graciously offered ear plugs which I took advantage after an unfortunate accident in the hall where it sounded like all the dishes in someone's kitchen hit the floor. The next day, check out was a breeze and I had forgotten my parking code to get out of the underground parking. Again, the staff was great for helping me to get out. I've stayed here in the past and at the time I remember thinking, wow this place is swanky. Now I think it's mainly tired and needs some love to justify the prices it's asking for. Really friendly staff!

Dec 11th, 2019

The hotel is very well located for a downtown Halifax visit. It is close to the waterfront and other attractions as well as the Halifax nightlife. The rooms are clean and well kept. The indoor parking is very secure. The restaurant is in the adjoining mall and was under renovation during my stay. There are a lot of places to eat very close by. This is my go to hotel for Halifax stays. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My experience at the Four Points did not start right. Having done mobile check-in to speed up the arrival process, I arrived at 10pm and had to stand in line to wait for the agent to come out and help me. No big deal, I say. Then a family of 5 entered the lobby, and as the agent was getting ready they cut in front of me and started talking. Again, no big deal, I say. However, the agent decided to ignore the fact that they cut the line right in front of her eyes and started checking them into their 3 rooms. Ouch. After 3 hours of driving in less than ideal weather, I tried very hard to maintain my composure. Thankfully, when it was my turn it was quick and straightforward, to the point where there was no mention of mobile check-in or my elite status and benefits, which I couldn't care less about, so all good. My room was okay, older but spacious, and had the things I expected in a typical hotel room. When I opened my door I realized I wouldn't have a good view, but when I woke up in the morning I realized that although it was just a building in front of my window, there were some great paintings to make the view more interesting - I genuinely appreciated this, considering how dull it would be without the added touch. All in all, my experience was okay albeit the awful check-in experience, it surely is a well-equipped and adequate hotel, and among the better ones in downtown Halifax, and it is unfortunate that I had to rate my stay based on my whole experience - would have been a 4/5 if my check-in was smoother. Dirty, tired, no effort

Nov 24th, 2019

Room was dirty - surfaces with mist, LOTS of dust, mirrors dirty, stains on soft goods, etc. Basic cleaning not done. Hotel is older but appears economically refurbished, and the spruce up is also showing wear. I put out my do not disturb sign, and the front desk called to wake me up and ask about housekeeping. A dirty coffee cup was left in my room for days, until I left it on the floor near the entrance. Could be a nicer place if it was well run and cleaned. Parking is very limited. Very noisy the first evening. Better choices all around. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
