Outstanding stay - true southern hospitality

Dec 11th, 2019

Every part of the stay was very nice. From the gals at check in that helped my wife and I navigate the places we wanted to go and their suggestions about where else to visit! The room was quaint, comfortable, and very quiet. We didn't get a chance to go to the Swamp Fox restaurant but would liked to have. We did go to the Starbucks downstairs - also great service! We will be back in Charleston and will gladly stay there again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Super service

Dec 8th, 2019

We had a wonderful stay at the Francis Marion for our annual trip to Charleston. Tashia made our stay at the hotel perfect! Christmas season in Charleston is beautiful. Marion square is in full holiday swing! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Never accept a room on 2nd floor

Dec 7th, 2019

We checked in and we were told we received an ‘upgraded room’. It was room 212 (2nd out of 12 floors, but it was a corner at least). Did have good views of the corner of King/Calhoun streets but being on the 2nd floor in an old hotel with poor insulation means LOUD! Not only loud traffic, but on Saturday night they had a party in one of the banquet halls until 11pm. We were staying with our toddler and the amount of vase they used for music shook our room, glasses, windows, and bodies. Absolutely ridiculous they allowed this. We are Marriott Platinum members and they would NEVER allow something like this. This room should cost $70 and I’d expect a college level hotel room experience. Not $270. Do not stay here. Come by and visit - it is beautiful. But absolutely do not stay here. Stay at the Courtyard, Dewberry, Bella Grace, or Bohemian within 2 blocks but DO NOT STAY HERE. Trying to post a video showing just how loud it is. May edit this post when I figure out how to post a video. -Jack Neil TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Should have stayed across square at Courtyard by Marriott

Dec 5th, 2019

This hotel coasts on its historical vibes, but you will be happier nearby. We checked in on a Wednesday night. Only 1 person worked the desk and give parties were ahead of us. It took a half hour to check in at 9 pm. The rooms are ill-designed: the bathroom in our room (and the one next door) is 3feet away from the head of the bed (not good). We saw debris (a bobby pin, a piece of food) on the carpet in the hall outside our door on the first night and 3 nights later, all were still there. I don't think anyone ever vacuumed the floors of the elevators. Our rooms had views of walls and nothing else. For $250 a night, go across Marion Square outside to either the Hampton Inn or the Marriott Courtyard. Better deal, cleaner place, more professional hotel. The Swamp Fox restaurant at the hotel was fantastically overpriced. Parking was $20 a night. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wonderful Stay!

Dec 1st, 2019

We just finished a delightful stay at the Francis Marion - celebrating our 32nd wedding Anniversary and the Thanksgiving Holiday! From the moment we arrived the desk personnel made us feel Special - gave us a corner room on the 10th floor with a Wonderful view of the Harbor and downtown Charleston. Customer service was outstanding. The hotel is historic but certainly updated so we felt we did not miss any amenities. It has the feel of a "family establishment" and not a big corporate hotel -- Perfect for us! The food at the Swamp Fox Restaurant was so Delicious and the Thanksgiving Buffet was Amazing! Definitely farm-to-table lowcountry specialties (yum)! The dining room is rather intimate so be sure to make reservations for special events early~! Highly recommend! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
