Large rooms, YUM breakfast

Jan 10th, 2020

Excellent hotel especially in the off-season given the prices. Room is pretty big. Kores toiletries. YUM YUM breakfast far the best one given the large array of salads. I love the idea of a salad for breakfast. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

One of the best hotel stays in Crete

Dec 29th, 2019

I stayed at the Megaron in February this year during the off-season. I was blown away by the quality of the place - the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff - and especially the banquet-style continental breakfast. The beds were huge and comfortable - room service prompt and tasty. I had a package arriving at the hotel during my stay - the staff were more than helpful in making sure I got it promptly and securely. If you go during a quiet time - the value is astounding. One of the best hotels I've stayed at. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great experience!

Dec 9th, 2019

Hotel is conveniently located right by the port and of course very close to the heart of the town. The rooms were excellent, the breakfast is as good as it gets, and the people were wonderful. We used it as our base of operations in Crete, having rented a car in town and explored the island. Highly recommended. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location & terrific staff!

Dec 3rd, 2019

Our stay at Megaron was fleeting - our last night on Crete before catching a ferry the next day. We selected this hotel mainly for its proximity to the port and old Venetian harbour. We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival to see a bus direct to Knossos out the front - it leaves every 15-20 minutes. The very warm and friendly Effie checked us in and also gave us a free upgrade to a bigger room with a larger balcony which was a nice touch. The hotel looks as though it’s located in quite an industrial area, but just beyond this, is fabulous walking access to the Heraklion old town with its shops, eateries and lovely old buildings. The rooms are a little dated (it is an older building) but very clean and all the usual amenities are provided. Breakfast offered a terrific selection of Cretan food as well as all the other typical buffet fare - the staff on breakfast duty were friendly, courteous and accommodating of all requests. After checkout, we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel and when we returned to collect it, they offered us use of a room to get changed - we didn’t, but a lovely gesture. Our only criticism- and this is not the hotels fault, nor could they have done anything about it, was the noise coming out of the nightclub to the hotels rear. The loud music went until after 5am which interrupted our sleep and the loud vomiting of a nightclub patron was also quite horrid to listen to. Again, no fault of the hotel but if you’re a light sleeper maybe request a room with harbour views to avoid this situation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely Boutique Hotel with the Best Breakfast in Greece!

Nov 30th, 2019

Had a wonderful 3 day stay at the GDM Megaron in Crete. We stayed toward the end of November as the tourist season was winding down the hotel was not very crowded and extremely relaxed. Having said that, many properties would let down their standard of service during a slower time... Not the GDM Megaron! The staff were extremely warm and helpful in every encounter we had with them. The breakfast spread was the best we had throughout our trip to Greece. The selection of Cretan food in particular pushed the breakfast other the top. The breakfast may be the best we have ever had at any hotel! You could get anything you wanted made to order as well and the coffee was excellent. We really enjoyed Crete on the whole, especially with fewer tourists on the island. We had a wonderful time driving around the island and seeing the sights with no crowds. The GDM Megaron was a great base for this. Also, enjoyed Heraklion as a city far more than we thought we would. Excellent restaurants within a .5 mile radius of the hotel! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
