Guest service and renovation needed

Jul 9th, 2019

I stayed here in 2017 with my family and the experience was great with the nostalgic fill of the hotel. This time June 2019, the hotel had lost the feel, the pool was closed, room dirty with spiders in every corner. The staff was very non engaged to the situation going on around them. It did appear the Motel was under going a renovation in the guest rooms. I do think the team needs some guidance in order to help the current situation to keep me and my family coming back. Yes, it’s currently undergoing renovation, but still worth considering

Jul 2nd, 2019

Just returned from a three-night stay. Cons: the motel looks pretty trashy from the outside right now, due to massive renovation project underway. Even the reception area is temporary at the moment. Pros: LOCATION and PRICE. Really only La Fonda can rival location for ease of sightseeing and restaurants on foot. The Desert Inn has been there since the 1950’s, and it is one of the classic motor inns on Route 66 from those days. The bathrooms in our newly renovated rooms retained their adorable vintage pink tiles — but have brand new fixtures. My room was extremely clean, housekeeping service was great and friendly. Air conditioning was nice and frosty. Bed was comfortable. TV signal was weak on some channels, but who cares. I didn’t use the motel wifi, pool or ice machines, so can’t comment on them. The motel location was also quiet at night. Bottom line: it’s not the Ritz or even La Fonda, but do some price comparisons and you’ll see this is the best priced option for the location you need to see Santa Fe on foot. If you have a car, you may be able to match the price far away from the Plaza. For bargain hunting travelers, I recommend Garrett’s, even with the current, ongoing renovation project. When the renovation is complete, I hope it’s still affordable! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Go somewhere else

Jun 15th, 2019

Perhaps when renovation is complete, the check-in office will be evident from your car, the office staff will be friendlier, the ice machine will be repaired, bathroom mold will eliminated, stained sheets and bedspreads will be replaced, the door chain latch will actually have the chain part, outlets for charging devices will not require moving furniture and burned out light bulbs will be replaced. We will not return to see these improvements. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This hotel SUCKS!

Jun 5th, 2019

I reserved my room last August for this years Indian Market coming up in August. This is the busiest week of the year in Santa Fe and I booked well in advance so that I would be assured a room since it is hard to get a room anywhere near the square. They called the other day two months before my stay and the Market and said that they would not be able to accommodate me because they are undergoing renovations and are running behind. There was no offer to find me another room, no assistance whatsoever. Just 'Sorry, we don't have room for you'. Are you reading this management? That is the most unprofessional thing I have ever heard of from a hotel. You should at the very least offer to help put me somewhere else. YOU SUCK! I will write bad reviews for you everywhere I can find. I will tell everyone I know to never consider your hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Horrible. Dirty. Grotty. Tired.

May 24th, 2019

This is quite possibly the worst motel I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world. It looks like it was last decorated and properly cleaned about 40 years ago. The only saving grace is the proximity to La Plaza but with hindsight I’d rather have paid more and/or walked further. The TV signal is so poor it makes watching tv impossible. The hot water is only luke warm which makes for an uncomfortable shave. The towels are so thin you can’t dry yourself. The heater only blows cold and it was really cold overnight. Plug socket was lose. One of the bedside lights was intermittent. Carpet is filthy. WiFi is slow. Check in wasn’t particularly welcoming. Bed was uncomfortable Good points - has a refrigerator and microwave. Proximity to town. Parking is $8. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
