Transforming Itself

Oct 18th, 2020

This place used to be Garrett's Motor Inn. We stayed when it was Garrett's, due to the location. It's in a terrific location and for the price, it's a great deal. The management is slowing renovating the rooms. The room we stayed in was quiet, had a comfortable king sized bed with clean bedding, and overall had new furniture and was clean. The lighting was not very good for reading and there was not an actual chair in the room, only an ottoman type thing. The bathroom configuration could use a little improvement. There is really no way to turn on the shower without getting hit with a blast of cold water. The beautiful new shower doors are attached in such a way that you cannot reach in from the side, you have to go in where the water hits you. Kind of off-putting on a chilly morning. Also, they might want to add a shelf of some kind to the shower for setting soap and/or shampoo while showering. The towels were fine, nothing fancy, not worn. Overall a huge improvement over our previous stay. One thing that is not mentioned while booking is that they charge $10/day for parking on top of what you pay for the room. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Location with No Thrills

Oct 23rd, 2019

I usually write positive reviews, but I feel compelled to warn fellow travelers about Garrett's Desert Inn. When I reserved the room on Expedia, there was no mention that the property was under construction. Expedia was no help! When we arrived, the front desk gave us a room that was a disaster. The blinds next to the door did not go down to the floor, so we had to put the decorative pillow on the floor to block outside light. A piece of the blind was even missing, so we had to cover it. Towels were rags. Sheets were old and uncomfortable. The bathroom window would not close all the way, so the room was very cold at night. The entrance near the rooms was filled with construction equipment and materials. We asked Expedia for assistance, which has yet to be resolved. The hotel manager would not take our phone calls and has not answered our email. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Am I going to die here?

Oct 20th, 2019

If I had to describe this hotel in one word it would be atrocious. I read the reviews prior to booking, but assumed people were overreacting. They weren’t. The bullet hole in the bathroom window really adds to the ambiance. I should’ve known this was a bad idea after they made me pay $8 to park in a lot full of broken glass and beer cans. I don’t think they’ve cleaned the carpets since 1957. And speaking of carpets, our room has cigarette burns on the floor next to the bed. There are dead bugs in the corners of the room, which vaguely resembles a fallout shelter with all the dust. But at least the giant spider next to my bed has been eating well. The bedsheets appear clean—I hope—because literally nothing else in this hellscape is. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Becoming very good

Oct 13th, 2019

This property is moving from the mid 1900's to modern times. The room had new AC/heater, new beds, new carpet, TV and furniture. Bath is completely redone. But it is still in process. Some of the lights were not yet attached. Some shelving was not yet installed. Toilet paper holder and bath shelf are not yet in. Very good improvements and getting there, but it will still be a couple of months for the change to be complete. We like the location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Building work spoilt our stay

Oct 1st, 2019

This was such a disappointment. We were not told about the building work taking place to the hotel when we booked. Upon arrival it was clear that building work was being undertaken. There was building rubble, and containers and diggers in the car park. Rubble on the stairway and huge boxes left on the way walk to the rooms. Once inside although ours was a not bad room it was clear to see it as unfinished. Large mirrors propped up against the wall, holes around the light switches, doors not fitted properly. Dust was everywhere inside and out. Such a shame. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
