Generations was alright.

Feb 25th, 2020

This review is for Generations and El Dorado Royale. Our concierge, Jairo, was awesome! The bars were severely understaffed. Royale was out of vodka, limes, bananas! Pool bar people were lined up! Not okay! Excessive plastic on the beaches was also not good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautfiul country/resort with warm/friendly/helpful staff

Feb 25th, 2020

We arrived at the beautiful resort and were greeted by Guillermo who was super friendly and helpful to us throughout our stay and always answered our many questions patiently!! The property was beautiful and clean and we loved walking, biking, or going on golf cart shuttles multiple times/day to get to one of the different pools, beach areas, or restaurants that all served delicious, fresh food and always had excellent service by waitstaff. We loved biking around the property daily to look for wildlife.. resident crocodiles, iguanas, spider monkeys! We talked daily and got friendly assistance from our butlers Nick, Jesus, Israel, Imelda, Arturo, and Kevin. Luis from Lomas travel helped us plan some amazing excursions to see Mayan ruins and cenotes!! There were so many other friendly staff (golf cart driver-Jesus, activities-Haxby..and others) that really made our experience great and made Mexico feel like a warm, welcoming country to someone who has never traveled there before. I was also really impressed with the sustaianable/green initiatives at the resort. Our only feedback would be to have some more quiet times at the family pool area and to have bike rentals on both sides of the resport. Otherwise, our vacation was muy bien!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

a great place FOR MEMBERS

Feb 24th, 2020

Generations is set on a small but beautiful beach. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean. The service staff is friendly. The food is good. But if you are not a member of The Club, you are a second class guest. Those Bali-beds on the beach - reserved for members. The lounge chairs in front of the beds - they go with the beds. You may be able to pay a hugh fee and reserve one - if member haven't taken them all. In fact, if there are beds unreserved, you can get to the beach by 7 AM and grab one. Too late - too bad - no place on the beach for you. Want a dinner reservation - members first. A table close to the entertainment on Fiesta Night - you get the idea. About those dinner reservations: It is difficult to get the time that you want, especially if you are part of a large group. When you get to the restaurant, there are plenty of tables, but limited staff, so service can be very slow. Allow 2-3 hours for dinner. The unincluded beverages listed on the menus (like Asian beer in the Asian restaurant) are not really available. Many of the very high priced wines offered were not available either. The substitute high priced wines were mediocre. This is a really beautiful resort, and if they had been more responsive to me as a Non-Club member, I woulld have enjoyed my stay enough to recommend it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Has potential for 5 stars, falls short for non-point members.

This is a beautiful resort and has a lot of pros like the nice rooms, decent beach, great pools, great cleaning staff and good food quality. Unfortunately we found the service to be extremely poor, the concierge useless and the general lack of knowledge frustrating. We were a group of 10 with 5 rooms, ages 11 to 76, traveling on our annual February break trip. Here are some examples of what we encountered: 1- Day of arrival was my son's 18th birthday. I emailed the concierge in advance (which was difficult to do) and asked if we could plan something, or at very least have a table for 10 ready for dinner. I was told basically no, deal when you get there. Lorena, who sent the last email, emailed me after I had already checked in- so much for advanced help! Then when we got to the restaurant, we were told there was no room for 10 and they couldn't move tables together for us at the Wine Bar restaurant. (Not bolted to floor, just wouldn't do it). They said they could do a private room, BUT we would have to buy 2 bottles of wine outside the inclusive package. We agreed, desperate to have a nice dinner, and tired and hungry from traveling. It was in essence blackmail. We had to pay more to get the birthday dinner we requested. Worse, the restaurant was 80% EMPTY (I have photos) and they switched the wines we requested to more expensive bottles. (They did later remove one bottle because of this). This was aggravating and very disappointing and took hours of time. 2. The diner saga continued on as there is no buffet option for dinner on this property. We had kids under 18 so all of the wonderful dining options at the adjoining resort were off limits to us making the 3 choices very very limiting and very time consuming. I would not recommend this for families with younger kids because of this. We still had to spend (no exaggeration) about 30 to 40 minutes each day trying to get reservations for dinner, to be told they had nothing before 8pm only to show up to a completely empty restaurant (more pictures to follow). The "dinner project" became a family joke. Room service and their Fiesta were great though. 3. The bali beds at the beach were 300$ to non-members and the free ones were first come. We took turns getting there every day at 7am to claim beds and we were successful but the resort was half full, so I can't imagine what would happen otherwise. The beds and the member vs non-member class system that evolved was terrible with full out fights between different parties each day. We were lucky, and they were lovely but it is disorganized and the butlers were useless if you didn't want to spend big $. 4. My husband emailed the spa two weeks before we went to get appointments and no one ever contacted him back. No knew information for anything, not once, not ever. The young man who cleaned our room and the actual waiters and waitresses on the beach and restaurants were fantastic and really are what is preventing this from being a 1 star experience. The room was also nice, but the swim out balcony pool was ice cold and no one really used it more than 1x. When you could get food, the quality was really good but I would look elsewhere if you have young kids as the all inclusive is not worth the cost for so little options. The grounds are pretty and although the beach has a bit of seaweed the breakers made it good for swimming. Pool is really nice too. They need better chair management, one more buffet or kid dining option, better information availability and any kind of concierge that can remotely help non members and it would be 100% better. We have been across the world on 5 continents and this may win as the most disorganized resort we have ever been to. It has great potential, but a long way to go. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

4th Trip to Generations AMAZING!!!

Feb 24th, 2020

This resort is a true gem. We traveled with our daughters ages 7 and 9 and our parents. We are Prestige Members. We met some of the most amazing staff members. Carlos at Chef Market and Palms was so great to our family. He greeted us at breakfast with the largest smile. He really did everything to make sure our family was taken care of. Jorge at Palms for dinner and then Jade was also amazing. His service was personalized and thoughtful. Our butlers Maria and Jesus went out of there way to make sure everything was great. They especially made my daughters 9th birthday extremely special. We will miss seeing them. After talking with Kevin, we were able to go visit the Over Water Bungalows and they were amazing. We have seen Keven and 3/4 visits and he is always very attentive. Reuben at the pool bar made us laugh and made us some special drinks. Everyone should try his drink the "Rueben". Finally all the staff members at the kids club. My girls loved going in there and especially have grown to love Ceidy. From the food, to the beach, to the drinks to the pool, everything was just amazing. However the thing that makes Generations the best is the service and the staff. We are so thankful to come to this resort often and can't wait to return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
