Nice Anniversary over night

Aug 1st, 2020

My husband and I spent a night here to celebrate our anniversary. The room was quiet and clean. I enjoyed having a living room and small kitchen. The kitchen is not very well stocked if you intend to cook and utilize it. No measuring cups, one pot, limited utensils. The carpeting was dated and the bathroom was very tiny, but overall, the room was nice and we had a nice view of the pool and lake. I had not complaints on the bed. The staff was very friendly and wore masks and gloves. We enjoyed the pool and grounds. This used to be a monastery, but most of the religious statues are gone. Interesting that the pillars and bases still remain, but most of the statues are not there. I am sure it was too much to maintain as what does remain needs attention and repair. We had a nice dinner. It was very romantic with candlelight and a piano player. I appreciated that the chef worked with my multiple diet restrictions. The food was good, but not top notch. You are paying for the view, which was lovely. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Completely Underwhelmed

Jul 26th, 2020

My husband and I decided to try out Geneva on the Lake to celebrate our anniversary. To sum it up we were disappointed and completely underwhelmed. I’ll start with the positive: The grounds are beautiful and we did enjoy sitting and enjoying the view, laying in the hammock while the sunset, and the pool. The fireplace in our room provided a nice ambiance. The bathroom was fairly clean. That’s about where any positive experience stops. The negative: At 3 o’clock we entered the front desk area (down a narrow hall to the business office) to be told she was uncertain if our room was ready and having to wait a few minutes for it to be cleaned. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever had at a hotel. I know it is a Murphy bed, but I have used Murphy beds in the past and I didn’t wake up feeling like my back was out. I would compare it to an old pull out couch. The room is very dated. I understand it is an old building and antique furnishings add the to charm, but an 80s oven, tables, and couches are not antiques and not charming. The bathroom is tiny, if a taller/larger guest was to use it their knees would be in the wall. Now dinner: We had reservations for 6 o clock on the patio. We were seated and then waited over a half hour to be served our drinks. We watched multiple tables be seated after us and immediately be served their drinks and fresh bread. Our waitress finally returned with our drinks (champagne cocktail and old fashioned). She put a lemon in my husband’s old fashioned instead of an orange. We did not get our bread until after our meal was served. We both ordered the filet. My husband ordered rare and I ordered medium. His steak came out well done. The waitress did immediately send it back but even the second one was not rare. The food was incredibly bland. No seasonings whatsoever. Salt and pepper can go a long way! The mashed potatoes were plain and unseasoned. The vegetables were burnt and no flavor either. We decided to pass on the over priced desserts after such a disappointing dinner. If you look like you have it, they will fall over themselves to please you. If you don’t look like what they expect money to look like be prepared to be disappointed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Dinner Only

Jul 24th, 2020

My wife and I set out on a leisurely Saturday Drive and visited my family plots and made sure my parents were where we buried them. Weak attempt at a bad joke. After stopping in Lyons, NY the family homestead we were hungry. Geneva is only 14 miles from Lyons on Rte 14. Geneva on the Lake is situated on the shore of Lake Seneca and is a picture perfect setting. The restaurant a vintage "Chateau" in the style of Villa Lancellotte n Italian Villa. The meal was excellent but will blow your budget. We both had Filet Mignon which was cooked to perfection. The vegetables, a whipped potato, probably lionaise, was excellent. Dessert, Bananas Foster was excellent. All in all It was money well spent. $$$ This is not a place to take children. If they behave I would say 10 years old would be the youngest. Fabulous property and awesome service!

Jul 14th, 2020

We had planned to stay here for my mother's 80th birthday at Geneva on the Lake prior to COVID 19 and were concerned if we should cancel but I am so happy we went! The property is only several stories and Joan in reservations made sure she booked us in a first floor suite which made it easy for my Mom to walk everywhere. Our suite was clean and lovely with a full kitchen (not that we used it), living room, bath with a whirlpool tub and separate bedroom. A continental breakfast was served daily (coffee and muffins) and full breakfast and dinner were served on the patio. The outside seating was covered (it was a rainy weekend) and social distancing was followed and all staff wore masks. Our dinner and full breakfast was delicious and sitting outside allowed us enjoy the lovely grounds. Kristen in the office was helpful in making arrangements for my Moms birthday and Bill Schickel could not have been more accommodating-from escorting to my mother to the dinner table to making sure every part of our stay was flawless. The hotel took every COVID precaution and we could not have had a better weekend. The grounds are perfectly maintained, the pool, view of the lake and their were plenty of activities for the grandchildren-volleyball, croquet, bocci, swimming, biking, the lake etc. There are so many wineries and quaint towns in the area--it was definitely worth trip from Boston. I can't thank the staff enough for making everything perfect for my Mom. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
