Construction Presents a Challenge

Aug 20th, 2019

My wife is undergoing regular therapy at the Georgetown Hospital. We prefer this hotel for it's convenience to the hospital. We have stayed there seven times and expect to stay several more times. The hospital is constructing a new building which precludes vehicle access to the front door. We see people come up from the parking garage with cars parked there so I must assume there is access from some other point. Additionally, the walking access is through the hospital but the route between the hospital and the hotel is a continually changing maze. It is obviously and older structure which under went a decent renovation. The rooms are decent sized with individual air conditioners, and coffee but no microwave or refrigerator. Every time we stay there appears to be at least one problem with the room. The most common is the cable TV which operates to varying degrees. The front desk responds with a repairman who usually fixes the problem. We have found the front desk to be courteous and responsive. There is a restaurant in the building which operates cafeteria style for breakfast and lunch. Since it is on campus, the building is shared with the students. There is a Chick-fil-a, a Starbucks and some other over priced not very good sandwich shop. We have not seen any restaurants within walking distance. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice hotel - call ahead for arrival directions

Jul 29th, 2019

We have stayed at this hotel before, and as it is nestled behind Georgetown hospital and on the north side of campus, it was a little hard to find. For this trip, we drove the same way -- due to construction, the normal route was closed. The security guard gave us wrong directions, the parking attendant at hospital gave us wrong directions, so we finally called hotel who was able to give us correct directions. Once we arrived at hotel, there were no directions for parking (just drop off). We ended up parking in wrong spot in garage and had to move. We never were notified about parking/entrance change. Later, I found a generic note on website about construction, but no instructions on where to go. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was one of their older rooms, nice, but very small bathroom. We had previously stayed in one of the new rooms which was very nice. If you are visiting Georgetown University, you cannot beat this for convenience - it is on campus and connected to the Leavey center. For that reason alone, we would stay again (and it is well priced) but would definitely call ahead for directions as construction may take a while. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Staff should advise regarding the construction

Jul 24th, 2019

The facility is convenient for visiting the University. The on site gym is useless. It is a pain to get to the hotel-taxi will get lost, food delivery folks will get lost and so will the guests-ongoing construction makes accessibility quite a challenge. Staff is nice, rooms are clean but this is a very basic hotel without much in the name of services. I would suggest staying near the campus but close to areas with stores and restaurants nearby. No refrigerator in the rooms, bathrooms are old, clean and comfortable beds. I did not try the breakfast. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Horrific Stay - Never Again

Jul 23rd, 2019

We booked 5 rooms for our students to visit Georgetown University. We usually book 5 - 10 rooms twice a year but will never come back. Cornell School of Hotel Administration should do a case study on the Georgetown Hotel to show how NOT to run a hotel and illustrate the concept of inhospitabity in the hotel industry. We arrived in a passenger van and had to park on Reservoir Road due to construction We dragged our suitcases through the hospital. Once we got to reception, we waited over 30 minutes to check in even though it was 8:00 p.m. There was ONE receptionist who spent an inordinate amount of time trying to change a room for a guest even though there was a large group checking in. Once it was our turn, he could not have been more slow. We went out for dinner and came back around 10:30 p.m. The hospital was closed so we had to wait in the Emergency Room for 45 minutes for a security guard to escort us through the hospital basement to get to the hotel. The next morning we asked for our breakfast vouchers. Front desk argued that breakfast was not included. They were not trained to read the POS system which clearly showed that breakfast was included. We had to dig into our reservation to show the breakfast inclusion to get our vouchers. We took the vouchers and gave them to the person at the door. She forgot she took them and gave us a bill. It was a comedy of errors. GM Joel [-] should be embarrassed for how poorly his hotel is run and staff is trained! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
