Terrible experience

Nov 29th, 2019

I'm writing this review because I'm dissatisfied with my stay here. It destroyed my Thanksgiving holiday. When I checked out everything was OK, I have got the receipt. However two hours later, they told me that there were some problems with my room cafe someone thrown the cake on the bed and wall. The staff still told us we should pay for the cleaning fee. Why would we throw the cake on the bed and wall? I love the surrounding environment. It is beautiful. I was here to enjoy my holiday not to dealt with such terrible problems. I am also worried about my safety. Why could those people do such thing to the room? It is such a sad experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Small room. Tiny bed. Heated toilet paper!

Nov 6th, 2019

This hotel has seen better days. It’s old and worn, but with some care, it might really shine. My primary problem was with the size of my room. The room I had was minuscule. There was very little room to move around, and I think I had the smallest bed ever made. It appeared to be a full size bed, yet with my head up against the headboard, my feet still hung over the end of the bed. And I’m not even 6 feet tall. The best part of the room: the heated toilet paper. Seriously, there was a heating vent, that could not be controlled, on the wall right under the toilet paper. So, the paper was always warm when used. Fortunately, I was at this hotel for a work function, at my employer’s expense. However, I would not return on my own dime. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Historical retreat

Nov 6th, 2019

Beautiful historical hotel nestled in the woods of Saratoga Springs. Charming rooms with vintage photographs throughout the hotel. Outdoor porch and patio for drink, light meals, and quiet reading. The Spa on the property grounds was relaxing and accessible. I recommend a 40 minute mineral bath, which is incredibly healing and contemplative in original porcelain tubs. I prepared myself for the brown water (the minerals oxidize when they are exposed to the air) but there is also a gentle floating sensation. The quiet room and outdoor patio with lounge chairs are a nice reprieve.Would have loved a more strictly enforced quiet policy in the relaxing room, but many couples and friends come together, so it is understandable. So the outdoor patio gave the space for isolation after the treatment. The easy walk among the springs was heavenly. I was able to sample the healing waters; they are not tasty but effervescent and sulfuric but organic! This is an ideal location for a girls or family weekend to connect with the past and with nature. And although the hotel and Spa are a little rough around the edges, it makes for an authentic historical, upstate experience. I would go back and plan to every year with my sisters! Employee barged into our room unannounced & unexpected!

Oct 28th, 2019

Granted the hotel is historic however for the prices you pay to stay certain things should be addressed esp since they keep saying they spent millions in updates & you don't see that in the guest rooms. It's clear the guest rooms need the most updating. We have been to this hotel 4 times for conferences. Firstly, we are disgusted that an employee barged into our room without warning & totally unexpected a half hour after check in on our last recent visit. Apparently we are not the first guest who experienced this according to some of the reviews here. One of us was in stepping into the shower when this happened. Update your system so all departments/hotel staff are up to date. Bathrooms in the guest rooms need updating. Paint the painted old tiles or replace them because the old paint job is coming off and looks unwelcoming & untidy. Bathrooms are tight small spaces. Put in a pocket door to make bathrooms a bit more doable. Give toilets new lids because the old ones are yucky. Get screens on the windows because we were too hot in our room at 74 degrees & the thermostat was locked so we could not turn the hot air down or off & wanted to open the windows to get some cooler air into our room. Mattresses & pillows need to be replaced. We both woke up to stiff necks & sore backs from hard thick pillows & too soft of a mattress. One luggage rack does not suffice when there is more than one guest in the rooms. A good cleaning in and around the toilet, sink and tub areas is needed. A few people mentioned that there was bottle water in their rooms & then some reviewers mentioned there was none in their rooms. We are part of the none. If you put water in the rooms esp for the coffee makers please be consistent with that & have it in all of the rooms. We & I'm sure other guest do not use sink water for the in room coffee makers not knowing if the historic pipes have been updated. Most of the staff was nice with the exception of a few. The guest hallways on the the 3rd floor were updated very nicely & with that you'd expect the rooms to be as well but no. The furniture in our room is damaged, old & I don't mean antiques & just simply the rooms need furniture updating. Carpets should get a good deep steam cleaning every now & then. The window coverings didn't do much to keep out the lights of cars below & hotel lights from blaring in our eyes while trying to sleep. On our first night we had a good dinner in the restaurant with our friends. It was also a pleasant surprise to see that they now serve a complimentary breakfast with hot & cold foods, a choice for different diets etc. Catering for our conference was great. The fall decorations & grounds are pretty. The hotel is decent but if they can just put some of that money into updating the rooms it would be so much better. You can update without taking away the historic feel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A big let down !

Oct 27th, 2019

This place has so much potential! Great location but has not been up kept. AC already turned off for winter. Room was sweltering so we opened window and window frame was rotten and window almost fell out. Housekeeping did not take dirty glasses, did not replenish coffee and left dirty towels on floor. Breakfast buffet was rather dissappointing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
