Goldeneye the BEST

Aug 30th, 2020

My family and I had the pleasure of spending a few nights at this wonderful property. Everything was perfect and we were in paradise. Every staff member was well trained and they made sure they practiced healthy social distancing and we felt safe and secure at this property. The property is impeccable and allowed us to escape the troubles now facing the planet. It was the ultimate pandemic escape. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They wore their masks and sanitized. I highly recommend this for families and I will be returning. I suggest you go for Villa 18. A wonderful villa. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very special vibe...with some opportunity for improvement

Jul 3rd, 2020

Do I want to give it 5 stars like many others...yes. But something is missing for that honor. Would I come again...yes. I stayed here during the construction period where room rates were partially lowered. I am reviewing the resort not at the discounted rates but at full rates of $480+ for off peak times. As always it is a price/quality/value judgment. Beach huts for the size and given that they are cheapest rooms are very high quality. Ask for 41-43 which overlook snorkellers cove and direct sea view. These are actually the best views in the entire resort but are not advertised...and still cost the same!! I would hate to be in one of the huts away from the water - no views, mosquitoes, long walks. Upsides - Food is generally really good here, especially compared to other resorts in the Caribbean (let’s be honest standard is very low). It is also very fairly priced and for drinks too. Staff are very nice and are a few steps above. I also love how there are many nooks and crannies to the hotel so you don’t get bored and can hang out in different areas every day. There is a great vibe overall which they work hard to keep. Downsides - there is no great beach here. Jamaica Inn beach is far superior, even the Trident has a better cove! When paying top dollar that’s what I would expect, particularly in a place like Jamaica. To me this is very important. The beach here is extremely rocky (I wore rubber shoes) and is missing sand. Snorkellers cove is lovely and has actually very impressive coral and fish...but not a beach. Also service efficiency can be seriously off - we asked for our room to be made up 3 times one day to no luck. Yes we have a toddler and were in and out but 3 times! We also waited for 3hrs to check in after arriving at 1pm...with a baby while watching others walk by us. No genuine apology or offering. Finally there is very little true management oversight. One manager was flitting around the place but never came to speak properly to most guests. No one else was to be seen. That doesn’t cut it at a top resort in the world...sorry to say. Maybe they were too concerned about the construction and the new rooms that needed to be built. Overall yes I would come back but with eyes wide open. The new lagoon rooms might be the way to go when we need more space. The lagoon IS stunning, though they need to clean up a lot of the trash that is lingering (because of the construction ?). Everything and MORE!!!

May 28th, 2020

Long overdue review. We visited Goldeneye in November 2019 and from the moment we landed until the day we flew home, this experience left us feeling so extremely grateful! It begins with our Goldeneye driver Laurel, who was AMAZING!!! She made us feel right at home and gave us some great information/history about Jamaica and the resort itself. She was so lovely to chat with, it made the next 2 hours fly by! I loved hearing about the celebrities she knows who are frequent visitors to Goldeneye. We highly recommend her services if you're lucky enough to request her. Upon checking in to Goldeneye we were greeted by the loveliest staff including Fiona and the most breathtaking views I've ever seen. We were lucky to have a beach bungalow that overlooked the ocean that felt so surreal. Goldeneye's staff arranged some fun surprises during check-in for my husband's 40th birthday which included a delicious cake and a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate. The next seven days were just heaven! We ate THE MOST delicious fresh food, drank such wonderful cocktails and best of all, met the most beautiful people ever. We were treated like family and were able to participate in some special guest events including a moon lick with live music that just blew us away! If you are lucky to experience the Saturday evening "bbq", it is an event you will never forget. It is here where we met Chef Alex and his amazing seafood dishes! We loved his dish so much, he was kind enough to make it for us again another evening. It was just the best!!! My husband and I also fell in love with Button Beach and the jerk chicken we ate provided by the amazing Chef Nick. To die for!!! The resort was very private and some days felt like you had it all to yourself. It was the best of both worlds. We were able to visit James Bond beach which was a quick kayak ride away from our resort, just lovely!!! As a special birthday surprise for my husband, we were also able to visit the Ian Fleming Villa which was a dream come true for my James Bond fan of a husband. It was very nice to see Mr. Blackwell around the resort. As a huge Bob Marley fan, I am forever grateful to the man who introduced Bob Marley to the world! One tip I would give, if you are prone to mosquito bites, please be sure to protect yourself! Goldeneye is kind enough to provide you with mosquito repellent candles and various sprays in-room and around the resort, but be sure to keep your room doors closed during the peak mosquito times. They got me good lol! We have to give a special shoutout to the following staff that made our experience just fabulous----Laurel, Fiona, Chrisana, Nardia, Conroy, Chef Nick and Chef Alex. Just amazing people, we enjoyed all of our conversations with you! Thank you for making our stay a memorable one! I could go on for days about how wonderful our experience at Goldeneye was but it would not do it justice. You must go and experience it for yourself. Private Get Away

Apr 12th, 2020

It was our first trip to Jamaica and we picked one of the nicest places on the island to kick off the trip. The resort is very private and so peaceful. It is a 2+ hour trip from Montego Bay but we got to see a lot of the north coast along the way. The food in the onsite restaurants has a local flavor and not a lot of variety so be sure to take advantage of the special dining night options like barbecue night, beach night and the rum party. Breakfast was included and was excellant. The drinks in the bar were really tasty but they match the pricing of the resort so be ready for the bar tab. We stayed in a beach hut unit. Very nice – loved the high peaked open ceilings, porch and the outdoor shower. The bed was to die for. The beaches are small and can get rough when the wind kicks up. Be sure and take advantage of the water sports in the bay and lagoon area. The service was great. We always felt special. The resort is small enough that you could get to know the staff and they get to know you. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Can't Wait To Return

Mar 21st, 2020

Hello! We so enjoyed the "Eye". Great and the very welcoming staff! They don't know "no", everything is Ya Man!. Ricardo set the tone when he picked us at the Montego Bay Aiport and stopped at Scotchies for a jerk chicken lunch. Chantal is a great concierge and is a great help. All the staff at Bizot(Romaine, Chris, Nicholas, Aaron and Anita among others are the best in class. Loved the Fishfry on Sunday night at the Button Beach. The grounds are well kept. The spa(Yolanda) is very relaxing. The Gazebo(Glenroy is a great server) has world class food. The beach hut with a dune room is very unique. Loved it! We will to return when we can see the James Bond movie outdoors and experience the barbecue which was cancelled due to the world health issue at this time. We experienced most of what the resort has to offer but not everything which makes us want to return in the future. The management did a great job keeping the resort functioning during the past ten days. We would recommend a daily activity listing posted somewhere to inform the guests of what is happening and when so we can plan the day and evening. Stay Safe! The Z's TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
