Dominican week break

Dec 2nd, 2019

Our weeks holiday started with a friendly check in. The room was spacious but dated, cleaned daily by our lovely cleaner to a high standard. The pool was not the best with moss on the walls, leaves on the bottom and I fished out a couple of plastic glasses as well, not the best. Food was no better than average and repetitive, the A la Carte Restaurants we went to were the same as the buffet with a better choice of Mains. One aging light in the buffet restaurant was the service and friendliness of Suley Penalta, a credit to the hotel and helped make our holiday, can you pass on our thanks. Service at the pool bars was grim, with my partner being ignored on several occasions and she was the only one there? We usually tip for good service, but here had to tip to get service. Overall we would say 3 star at best. We would return to Dominican Republic but not to this hotel. Stayed at the Blue and Sand a few years before and it was far better quality. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location

Nov 28th, 2019

The location, resort layout, pools, buffet and beach were wonderful. My concerns however lie with insufficient AC, inadequate room lighting(so weak that one is not able to read in the room), shower heads falling off the wall onto me, and most importantly, bugs! Whether they were bedbugs, sand fleas, roaches or mosquitoes, they were so bad that I required medical assistance when I returned home. I would not recommend this place to anyone as a result. Extremely poor service, broken toilet, greasy food

Oct 26th, 2019

We arrived at night, around 11pm. We were in a big group (a party of 14) and there was only one person to check us in. Unfortunately, not only said person was a bit rude, he also did not speak our language or even English, which made communcation all the more difficult. We were extremely tired and the check in process took a very long time as he didn't seem to know a lot of what he was doing, nor did he know how to properly explain everything to us. We had a severe problem with our room. Our toilet was clogged from day one and we called reception in order to get it fixed. They fixed it and it broke again in the following day. Thus started our everyday routine of calling them about the same problem. They started acting rude and would fix the problem everytime but refused to move us to a different room. We then had to start using the lobby bathroom on a daily basis. After it broke for the 6th time, they finally agreed to move us.First they took us to a room that was super moldy and had a dreadful stench of said problem. We refused to take it, so they took us to one that one was not only moldy, but thet toiled was also broke. We gave up and decided to stay in ours anyway. On the 7th time the toilet broke we, once again, called the reception and asked them to fix it. We left for dinner and once we got back, discovered that they had finally exchanged the actual toilet because ours had a shampoo bottle stuck inside of it (which they explained it was probably the work of a prevous guest), hence the constant clogging. When our problems finally appeared to have been solved, we came back to our room after the beach on the following day to find a flood on the bathroom (apparently due to poor maintenance on the upstairs room bathroom) that had spred to the entire room. Once again, we called them to complain and they came to our room to mop everything and had it fixed (being anything but nice about the whole thing). So when we finally had a pleasant time in our room, it was time to leave. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great resort for the price

Oct 22nd, 2019

Spent 3 nights at the Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro to celebrate my sons birthday. The resort is huge and actually is several resorts combined together. Check in was very easy. We arrived around 2pm but our room wasn't ready. We decided to go eat some lunch at the buffet and when we returned our room was ready. The beach area is very clean and nice. We enjoyed spending time on the beach. The food is decent and there is plenty of dishes to choose from. If you are looking for a very reasonable vacation, I would highly recommend this resort.
