Brunch is excellent!

Mar 6th, 2020

The setting is “grand” to say the least. The food at brunch and the jazz band was so pleasant. The choice of food was wonderful and the selection of food was vast. Everything was fresh and the mimosas were constantly available. The wait staff were so nice ! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely place to escape to

Mar 2nd, 2020

We visit the property from time to time for an escape. My daughter is now 7 and loves the events (crafts, bikes, etc.) at the property. This trip, we had high tea and it was wonderful. The pastries were divine. The pastries (especially the donut of the day) in the front market were also wonderful. The customer service with the hotel staff was wonderful, as always. I must say, however, that other than the pastries the food and service in the restaurants was not great, to say the least. We ate at the Bayside Grill twice. The first time a server never came to our table. We had to get the hostess to find us a server. The food was equally disappointed. We tried again with the same service and quality of food. We were seated by the bar and we had to go to the bar and ask the bartender to give us our drink since the sever never brought it. The hanger steak ordered was not cooked properly and was very small for a $33 steak. The rest of the meal was mediocre, at best. We will not eat at this restaurant again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful. Elegant.

Grand old hotel on the bay. Extraordinary hexagon lobby with fireplaces on 3 of the sides. Gorgeous flowers and majestic oak trees with hanging moss. Interesting birds, magnificent setting. We will be back for high tea! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Historic 1847 Hotel

Feb 26th, 2020

The Grand Hotel is located on 550 acres of well kept property. We entered in a securely guarded gate welcomed by a friendly smile. Only registered guests are allowed to enter the property. Marriott is keeping this old southern hotel in grand style timely to the past area. The staff present southern hospitality at its best. Every staff member we met took the time to greet us and make us feel welcome. The walls of the hotel were covered with pictures of years gone keeping the history of the hotel alive. The hotel buildings are spread out over the property, but they give you a map with your room key which helps you find your way. We stayed at the North Bay building close to the swimming pool. Our building was adjacent to the main building by a long hallway. Our room was very clean, and the king bed was very comfortable. The room had a balcony that overlooked the pool area, but it was still very quiet with the balcony door closed. The decor was not elegant but fitted to the 50's time period. The room had its own refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker. (I suggest you bring your own wine, because drinks are very expensive on the property.) This is a great place to bring a family! There are so many old southern style games for the children such as croquet, bocce, put put golf, corn hole, table tennis, bikes, fishing, and a pool. The grounds are beautiful, so enjoy the trails and sit in the swings facing the bay. Bucky's has a nice area to sit by the fire at night close to the beach. Bucky's also had a fabulous piano player starting at 8 pm where you can enjoy a drink. All the restaurants had delicious food and attentive staff. We even found vegan options. (Veggie burgers at Bayside Grill were amazing!) Don't miss the history of Mobile Bay and the firing of the cannon in honor of our military everyday at 3:45. Then everyone goes to tea and cookies in the main hotel (free service to all guests). I applaud Marriott for keeping the old southern traditions! Very relaxing get away. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Southern resort at its finest

Feb 22nd, 2020

Part of the autograph collection, a Marriott property, and part of the Alabama golf trail… this very extensive resort property has 5 or 6 buildings for guest rooms, and another 10 buildings that are various parts of the facility: conference center, pools and pool house, spa, marina, fishing pier, beaches, etc. As a family-focused-resort, they have events planned all day every day so that there are things to do, to distract and entertain people. They have bicycles that are not free; they must be paid for. They will pick you up in a golf cart from your room or the main building and shuttle you wherever you need to go on the property if you don’t feel like walking. It’s beautifully landscaped with the golf course outside the main entrance gate. There are two main restaurants and one little coffee shop café, as well as two bars, and that’s just in the main building. The pool building has also a little restaurant bistro and bar but it’s only open seasonably. Lots of walkways and paths, outdoor seating, And a beach on either side to either be sheltered from the wind or the sun, depending on what you like. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
