FANTASTIC VACATION MARCH 2020
Oct 22nd, 2020
We visited Grand Palladium Palace Resort and Spa from March 1 -8, 2020. We have visited various Palladium and TRS resorts over the last few years in different locations as we do enjoy the Palladium Hotel Group resort chain. The GP Palace is a family friendly resort which is one of four resorts within one large complex in Punta Cana. The other three resorts in the complex are Grand Palladium Bavaro, Grand Palladium Punta Cana and TRS Turquesa. These two GP resorts are also family friendly and the TRS Turquesa is the adult only resort within the complex. Those staying in any of the three GP resorts can access any of the pools, restaurants and facilities in all of these GP resorts however you are not allowed to access the adult only TRS Turquesa resort. We stayed in a junior suite swim up room in building 4000. This building is in the perfect location. It's only steps from the beach! These swim up rooms are amazing and all rooms in this particular building were totally renovated (not just refurbished) a couple of years ago. They are fantastic rooms and very modern. Even though we were two adults staying in the family friendly section, we were pretty much the only people in the swim up area of our building. There is a mini fridge in your room and it is restocked daily with pop (Coke, Sprite and Fanta Orange), Presidente and Coors Light beer. There is a nice big smart television in your room and bathrobes and slippers are provided for you in the closet. The bathroom is very nice with double sinks. There is a tub / shower combo but the tub is larger than your basic bathtub so there's lots of room in there to have a shower. There's a coffee maker in the room as well. Our housekeeper, Kathy, kept our room spotless during our stay and we always had lots of bath towels, hand towels and face cloths. There is a beautiful long beach which covers the area of the whole complex. However if you just wish to use the immediate beach area at the Palace resort, you can do that as well. You can go on very long walks if you wish beyond the complex as the beach goes for miles in each direction. There wasn't any seaweed on the beach when we were there. There is a large main pool with a pool bar for the resort which is very nice but you can also travel around and find some other smaller pool areas within the complex if you want a quieter atmosphere. There are lots of shady spots available too. Las Torres buffet is the main buffet for the GP Palace section. It was open for breakfast and dinner. Each of the two other GP resorts within the complex also each have their own buffet. Don't forget to try these out as well especially for dinner as each of the three buffets vary slightly with what they have to offer. There are many places open for lunch. We really loved the large El Behique buffet over in the Punta Cana section. It had a very large variety of food to choose from. If you prefer to stay on the beach, there is a smaller beach buffet called El Arrecife Beach Restaurant in the Bavaro section. If you prefer just to have a quick snack at lunch, you can go to La Uva Snack Bar on the beach which has burgers, french fries plus a few other items available. Each day at lunch right in this same area there was also a BBQ happening. For dinner there is the buffet of course but we preferred to eat at an al la carte restaurant each evening. There are 8 al la carte restaurants in all the GP sections: La Adelita (Mexican), Bamboo (Chinese), Sumptuori (Japanese Show Table or can order off menu in restaurant section), Bhogali (Indian), La Paisana (Argentinian), La Lola (Spanish tapas), Portofino (Italian) and El Dorado (Steakhouse). Our favourite of these was Bhogali and the Japanese show table. There is now 24 hour room service at the GP resorts. The room service used to only be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. but now it is provided all day for a nominal fee for delivery each time you use the service. We used it for a couple of lunches and snacks. The pizza was very delicious. Food takes can take up to an hour to arrive depending on how busy they are, so keep that in mind when placing your order. I should mention as well about the Sports Bar which is in the Bavaro section. It's a great place to go for a snack, lunch or casual dinner if you like. They have lots of sports channels on the televisions here so you can most likely find a game you'd like to watch. All the GP lobby areas had entertainment in the evenings. There was a rock band called Reef Rock which plays on Mondays and Saturdays at the GP Palace lobby at 9 p.m. We enjoyed their music a lot. One evening there was a silent disco which was so much fun. Each person has head phones on and you can listen to one of three different music stations. Then everyone just dances away while listening to the music you're listening to. Hemingway Bar is also a great bar that is open in the evenings. They have top shelf liquour here and many go here after dinner for some beverages. Keep an eye open to see if Hemingway Bar has a special Chocolate Afternoon. When we were there it was on Wednesday afternoons from 4 -6 pm (that's the one day that this bar does open early). There is a beautiful display of chocolate cakes, cookies and treats to snack on during the Chocolate Afternoon. There are also nightly shows at the theatre in the GP Bavaro section. These shows start at 9:30 p.m. One night there was a Rock Forever Show and you have to see the Michael Jackson Show. The Michael Jackson show may not be every single week, sometimes it is every two weeks, so when you get there, check to see if it’s on. That was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. After the show, head on over to the Sports Bar next door to catch your favourite game. There’s some good food here as well and you can order off the menu or snack from their small buffet area there. In between the show theatre and the Sports Bar there is a disco which opens at 11 p.m. For those of you thinking the whole complex may be too big for you, then you don’t have to necessarily go to all the resorts in the complex, you can just stay in the GP Palace section if you like. However there is a golf cart service where you can catch a ride to any location you may wish to visit. You can even hop on the train which goes to all the lobbies in the complex. Adults staying here may want to visit Chic Cabaret. We have enjoyed Chic Cabaret at two other TRS resorts and have really enjoyed ourselves. Chic Cabaret offers a multiple-course meal during the show and the show consists of breathtaking acrobatics, stunning choreography and music from all the different eras. There is a cost for this but in my opinion it is well worth the money. Maybe it’s not part of your culture, but we are from Canada so tipping is part of our lifestyle. We allocate a certain amount of money for tipping while we are on vacation. If you are comfortable with this, please do tip for good service when you are there – housekeepers, cart drivers, bartenders or food servers. We really enjoyed our vacation at Grand Palladium Palace and and hope that we can return sooner than later. Fantastic service and food. My advice for staying here would be this – don’t limit yourself to only the ammenities in the GP Palace area. Make sure you get out there and experience everything that the other two resorts in the complex have to offer – al la cartes, Sports Bar, and the show theatre. You won’t be disappointed. I have just written this report now even though our trip was in March (which feels like a lifetime ago with everything going on these days). I am confident when this resort re-opens soon they will implement all the proper protocols so everyone is safe at the resort. Some other Grand Palladium resorts in Mexico have already opened and are following strict protocols and I'm positive that Grand Palladium in Punta Cana will be doing the same. Feel free to message me here through Trip Advisor if you have any questions at all. Thanks for reading my report. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
3.5 stars - decent but with flaws
Mar 27th, 2020
I would rate this 3.5 stars. Traveled as couple in November for 8 days. We travelled in November which is technically a low season but there were a lot of people there. No restaurants were closed which was a plus. It was our first time here but we have been to other all inclusive in Caribbean so I will compare to that. This is like 3-4 resorts at the same place that you can enjoy for the same price. We knew this in advance and though it would be a plus and while it was, it came with a lot of negatives also. For example: Foam party at your pool only happens one day a week. You must check the schedule and travel to other resort pool if you want to be a part of that. For the theater, you take the 15 minute shuttle. Buffets at this resort were pretty bad while they were above average next door at the sister resort with plenty of live stations - that required a 5-10 minute additional walk. We have been to single resort all-inclusive where spa, casino, theater, activities, food, etc everything is close by as opposed to this place that has one of each shared by all the 3-4 properties. The advantage is that you have many pools you can visit but I am unsure why anyone would want to do that. Based on which property you are on, you are closer to some amenities and much further from others. I liked the one resort setup in past as there was something always going on at the pool. Here you had to hunt for activities to determine which one of the 10 pools in 5 mile area it was happening. 1/2 star taken out for this. I am originally from India and have lived in US for 20+ years. I have been to all over the world including UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, Amsterdam, France, Australia, Mexico and several other places. I am saying all that because this place has the WORST Indian Restaurant ever seen. Somehow EVERY dish has been made non edible. We picked this place as the Indian restaurant being one of the main reasons so my wife could eat there often. We ate there once and after that had to go to the buffet. Other people were wasting most of the food on their plates. One couple took two bites out of the lamb chops and left. I ordered it anyway and you could not bite on them let alone chew them - they were so hard. Please shut this place down or hire another chef. It is not hard to make decent Indian food. 1/2 start taken away for this. Stop with the sales stuff at the lobby. We had to find ways to skip the lobby area as the sales people keep harassing you and they even called the room several times. I see what you are selling, if we want something we can ask. 1/2 start taken away for this. Casino was a dump, not one employee spoke english, never more than 2-3 people there and the table games seemed rigged - But I don't expect much from casinos at these places so no stars taken away for this. Overall didn't seem like a lot of Americans/english speaking people. For staff, may be 20% spoke english. For guests, may be 10% english speaking. There were a lot of pluses also. Beaches were not overcrowded and we were always able to find beach loungers. Bars and bartenders at the beaches were very good. Overall the staff was very good and they tried to help you any way they could. Our beach facing villa was clean and spacious. The Spa was very nice and seems like every day they were offering 50% off (would be too expensive without it). Some other restaurants were nicer like Japanese Hibachi grill, Mexican and Italian. Chinese was so-so. Didn't get to try the stakehouse as the lines were too big. If I find 75% off deal, I might go again otherwise next time I would prefer to go to a place that is one resort instead of 4 in one. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Loved the view from our room upgraded to ocean view. Loved being closer to the beach. Food was good at all the restaurants. Overall the Palace was great but it does need some renovations compared to Punta Cana. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Cast away in Paradise

It was my first time in Caribic and it was truly wonderful. It was a special Bday surprise trip for my mum and I mus say it was unforgettable - beach, nature and wonderful see view room. Its worth to pay a bit more to get a better room closer to the beach, because hotel is huge and if you stay in one of the rooms close to reception, it takes a while to get to the beach TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
