Worst hotel I've ever stayed in

Apr 15th, 2019

Staff were awful: they never brought what you asked for, service was glacially slow, they were rude and unhelpful. The pool/garden areas are dirty, it's almost impossible to get pool towels. When it rained, the rain came through the ceiling, dripped into our room and woke us up. When I reported this the next morning, there was no apology! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Bad food, predatory pricing. Avoid!!

Mar 29th, 2019

Tourist trap disguised as fine dining. Terrible food. Prices laughably high. Dilapidated building with what looked like a highway entrance-ramp directly below the windows of the dining room. Sound of heavy traffic and police sirens punctuated an already dismal experience. Taxi driver picked us up at hotel and came back for return trip. Ten minutes each way, round trip taxi fare: $40. A perfect crime by all. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Sail away

Mar 25th, 2019

This was a lovely place to stay and reflect on the history. The rooms are decorated in art deco of colonial homes. A lot of history in this place. The grounds are very pretty to stroll through and many little areas to sit and relax. The formal dining area is beautiful with a piano player in the evenings. There's also a pizza place that has amazing food. There's little shops just in front along with a cigar and chocolate store. The staff were great. Transports you back to the olden-days and how people lived. Charming! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Service lacking

Mar 19th, 2019

Food was excellent as it always has been for many years. Service was poor this last trip, maybe just a fluke, will be back in May 2019 for another try. To long between courses, food not hot enough, mixed up the order a little. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Bit of a tired old spot

Feb 19th, 2019

Beautiful staff - could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The 20 rooms are mainly decorated Art Deco and quite funky - we like that sort of thing. The grounds definitely are showing their age. Light fixtures hanging loose, tiling in desperate need of grouting - just a feeling of overgrown despair. This is not a place for those with mobility issues - lots of stairs. The pools are however beautiful. The only problem as a guest is that you feel slightly like a zoo animal with a constant stream of tourists being guided through the grounds, The hotel which has a long and storied history, is a point of interest in itself with one of the great wine cellars of the world. Located adjacent to Government House and beside the Art Gallery ( review to follow separately - a must see for those interested in some extremely talented local artists) is in downtown Nassau within walking distance of several interesting restaurants and of course the shops of Bay St. with it’s famous Straw Market. Unfortunately the port has become a centre for the cruise ship, industry with up to six cruise ships in port at any one time. We planned our trips downtown around the arrivals and departures to avoid the crowds. If you want something different while visiting the Bahamas. Give it a try. - not cheap, but worth the experience.
