Coffee and get together with family

Feb 20th, 2020

Been here before for a quick bite to eat and coffee. Always find the staff behind the bar rather rude and abrupt. The staff who deal with the seating outside, are friendlier and more polite. You can sit for as long as you want and there are heaters outside to keep you warm. I prefer to eat elsewhere and just meet here for a quick chat and coffee. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel of two halves.

Feb 19th, 2020

This hotel has me completely torn. It is both wonderful and woeful all in one. The reception staff were very helpful and accommodating. The room flatters to deceive. Stains on the rug. Both in my room and my colleagues room. The toilet has glass doors so one can be seen in action as it were. It’s not cheap. No ironing board. You can request one but I’d prefer it readily available. There’s a great little Kitchenette at the end of the corridor where one can grab a coffee, cakes biscuits and fruit are provided free of charge. Newspapers are available with a nice window seat to relax with your sustenance. The upstairs bar is great. The decor wonderful. Atmospheric and a delightful place to chat and have a couple of cocktails. The staff there were mixed. An expert cocktail maker who forgot part of our order but made a mean drink. A surly waitress who was flirty with the male member of staff. Correspondingly she spent more time giggling and chatting with him than attending to customers. The drinks are expensive but not prohibitive for London. The dining room was fantastic and the food exceptional. The Italian waitress was great but a couple of her colleagues weren’t. The place lacked management and oversight. With a proper manager this charming hotel could be five star. Breakfast was ok. £18 for the full English. Photo attached. Served cold. Beans stone cold. Very tasty however. For some reason they played loud music at breakfast. Another indication that the youthful staff have no supervision. Overall it was lovely and terrible. I’m glad it was on business. Had I spent my own money I’d have been most upset. One last point. Although check out isn’t until 12 the cleaner burst in when I was sitting on the toilet at 1005 despite me shouting twice at the top of my lungs that I wasn’t in a position to accept visitors! Most embarrassing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Business stay

Feb 18th, 2020

I recently stayed at this hotel for a business trip for 2 nights. I agree with some of the other reviews that the room is quite small but that didnt bother me too much. However the room wasnt as clean as I expected it to be for the price of this hotel i.e. dusty and not vacuumed properly. The room service looked really limited so I went out for my food both nights. The staff on the checkout were also quite rude. However I do have to stay it's a very convenient hotel to stay at. The bed is also extremely comfy and the room itself looks nice. Exceptional Hotel Experience

Feb 11th, 2020

Arrived in London very early in the morning before checkin at a hotel I had booked. Needed a day room to have a nap and shower. The Great Northern was extremely welcoming and friendly in accommodating me at short notice. It is a beautiful Hotel in a prime position with beautiful rooms and great breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was so impressed by their service I cancelled my booked hotel and stayed here instead. Close to everything. Lively and exciting during the day but very calm and peaceful location at night time. Great location for trains

Jan 20th, 2020

We stayed on the 5th floor, whilst it’s a matter of taste I found the room pretty gloomy with little natural light and poor electric lighting and dark decor. I certainly wouldn’t recommend bringing much luggage with very limited drawers and storage. The room was however well insulated from noise which is a big bonus as far as I am concerned. Whilst fast wi fi speeds are advertised I found the speed distinctly pedestrian. Breakfast is served, slightly unusual in many hotels now, decent choice of food and helpful staff. Nice cosy bar with friendly bar staff and a good selection of drinks. Reception staff helpful - quickly organised different pillows and generally responsive to needs, and the huge benefit of staying here is the transport links with fast access to the underground and King X and St P.
