Service and decor requires urgent review

Mar 10th, 2020

We stayed at the GNH about two-three years ago and we had a fab visit so when it came to another visit to Kings Cross we didn't hesitate about booking the hotel again. Check in for us was hit and miss - the lady that checked us in was fine but didn't make us feel hugely welcome, we also witnessed a colleague of hers being rude to a maintenance worker.... The room was fine but tired and the carpets outside on the landing and in the room badly stained and either need to be cleaned or replaced! One of the things we did love before was the pantry at the end of the corridors... these again are tired and apart from a coffee machine I didn't really see the point of them? They used to be so much better. Upon checking out, I was made aware that the cleaner was very keen on getting into our room... she made us feel unwelcome and when checking out, I said good morning and received an extremely "dirty" look for her. Overall not a great stay and the management team need to review service and decor levels. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This is supposed to be a 5* Hotel. The location we give 5 The room 2 - very small, bathroom no ventilation, doors gives no privacy, only refill amenities- never full, few shelfs and no shelfs in the shower. Water pressure good. Good heated towel rack. Concierge 0 - no help at check in no help at check out. No bag trolley Cleanness 2 - rugs dirty in the room Breakfast. - 3 - can not make scrambled eggs and can not make fried eggs without burning them, even after detailed instructions. Pub - 2 - no draft beer only bottles. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful, convenient and very comfortable room

Feb 25th, 2020

Stayed for one night and my only regret was not spending more time in the room, especially the bed. The linen, duvet and pillows were extremely comfortable. It was spotless clean too! Ideally located. Reception staff were also very efficient, therefore I would definitely recommend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Business Traveller Beware - this hotel withdrew money out of my account without informing me, haven't paid it back

Feb 21st, 2020

Hi - travelled here for one night on business. The hotel was booked through my employer and was OK I guess given the lower than usual quality you can expect in London. Room was small, staff were abrupt, pillows smelled a bit. No mention of some of the extras noted in other people's reviews (a kitchenette - that would have been nice!). When I checking, they did the usual and asked to scan my card details in case I incurred any costs. Pretty standard stuff as all business travellers will attest. What they didn't tell me was that they would take £50 out of my account. I guess this was a deposit, but I am not sure as they didn't mention it. In my experience this is very unusual and clients should be informed in advance, provided with some form of proof of transaction etc... I only noticed this withdrawal because my online banking app informed me of unusual activity. I travel a lot and this is the only hotel which has taken money out of my bank on checking in. I checked out a day ago and the company still has my £50 sitting in their bank account, I assume earning them interest. Now I have to address the issue of how to get this £50 back as the booking was through my employer's travel agents and not direct. Overall this unusual practice stinks of back door profiteering.
