I totally did not enjoy my experience with this hotel. About the only true positive I can say about this hotel is the location, which is really good if you want to stay close to NYC’s sights like The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal or the Flatiron Building. There are a lot of restaurants, bars and shopping options around. I would recommend visiting all the Korean restaurants around the hotel. Food there is super delicious! The hotel is located inside of a cute looking historic building. The hotel’s lobby is pretty. I did not like the elevator. It is tiny and slow. Stairs are super uncomfortable the way they were built. In general, it feels tight and uncomfortable inside of the hotel. I also noticed dirty dusty carpets on my floor. My room (#307) was super small! I booked a Deluxe King room which was supposed to have extra-space, but I did not get this extra spacing at all. God only knows how catastrophically small the standard room is! One other plus I can mention is the room was perfectly clean, also everything looked pretty updated. The room faced inside of a hotel’s square so it was super dark inside my room all the time! Plus, I could clearly see what was going on in the windows opposite of mine, I bet these people could clearly see me in my room too. So you better keep the curtains closed all the time. My King Size bed was not really comfortable. There were not many plugs in the room to charge gadgets. No plugs next to the bed, a couple plugs were hidden behind a bed from one side. I did not like the little closet, as there was not even enough space there to put one big piece of luggage. So finally my luggage had to be placed next to the bed on the floor. The bathroom was also super small. I liked having a bathtub, but it could not fit me (I am 6 feet tall). Also the toilet was right next to the bathtub, and I found this design super weird. I had a cat with me, and I barely could find some space in the bathroom to fit a cat’s litter box. Bathroom amenities were good, I liked their fragrance. Wi-Fi was working super slow! I could not upload a 2 min video to Facebook or use Wi-Fi to stream a movie. Hotel’s staff was friendly and nice during all my stay. I payed $100 per night for my room, and I find this deal completely unreasonable for the quality I got. You should stay at this hotel only if you go to NYC by yourself with one little carry-on and you are not really concerned about staying in comfort. Also if you have a dog, please, do not take it to this hotel! The dog will be super unhappy in a super tiny hotel room! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Hidden City Gem

I have temporarily relocated from NYC to Florida for the Fall/Winter but had to come back for business and discovered this luxury boutique hotel. I actually cannot believe that I did not know about this hotel. It is chic and hip in a beautiful landmark style building. The contemporary art touches in the decor are super sexy. Location is also great. Located north east of Madison Square which means you are close to Madison Square Garden, Times Square and a brief commute or taxi ride downtown or uptown, east or west. I walked almost everywhere when the weather allowed. That is the beauty of the city and this location. Unfortunately, the restaurant and lounges were closed due to CV-19 but I cannot wait to return to experience the restaurant and lounge which read like a fashionable artsy private club. Totally my vibe!! I've been telling my friends about this place nonstop since my arrival. Lol! PS: I judge every establishment by the quality of their drip coffee. HGU did not skim on that either. The drip coffee served in the a.m. was excellent drip coffee. My room was perfect. I had a Queen Deluxe I believe. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious and very nice subtle industrial style fixtures. Anyways, I could go on. If you are traveling during these odd times or just need a break from your living situation, this is the best cost value right now!! I am a fan!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Many many things to improve

I didn't feel like I was staying in a 4-star hotel. I booked for a week and things were weird since day 1. The general atmosphere was weird. My room was dark, even with the lights on. Because of the pandemic, the restaurant and rooftop are closed. You can't eat breakfast there but they do offer coffee in the morning, starting at 7am. However, for 3 days in a row, there was no coffee at 7:30 or 8:30 am?? The smell on my floor (3) was horrible on my first day there. I complained about it and I don't know if they did anything. It was a mix of smoke/cigarette/animal smell. Not pleasant at all. That smell came back during the week. The hallway was dirty for 2 days, nobody ever cleaned it. No cleaning service because of the pandemic, which I don't completely understand but on their paper, it says it's because they could not rehire everyone. I do hope that the common areas were cleaned, but I personally never say anyone cleaning. I did have my mask down once, while waiting for the elevator, as I was talking to my daughter. I got yelled at by the receptionist, asking me to wear my mask in a very aggressive and cold way. Again, that doesn't highlight the fact that you are staying in a 4-star hotel.... Whenever you ask for something that is missing, it's always someone's else fault. I was using a stroller all week and the door is not practical for strollers. There is a bell outside to call for assistance, nobody ever came. All in all, I didn't like this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Be sure your know what your rate is for the entire stay and prepare to fight for it. I was brought here to fight Covid 19 as a nurse and the hotel wanted to double my rate after the "28" day check out then check in. This is the thanks you get for risking your life from HGU hotel! Nice the dollar is valued more! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Great location and clean rooms but..

There is a lot of construction work going on around the hotel however it was easy to find and location is great, close to metro/railway and walking distance to many excellent locations. Where it fell down for me is that I found the staff cold and asking a simple question felt like an imposition. This was just before the shut down which happened a week later and we were all getting concerned about what was happening, but a friendly face would have been very welcome. As I was working across time zones, I checked the room documentation to make sure i could get a meal/drink later at night but when I went down they told me that it wasn't open and that the documents had not been updated. Daylight savings was to start and a note was there that staff would change the clock, but they did not. Not a big issue but luckily i wasn't relying on the clock in the room or the alarm. I changed it myself. It's a really cute boutique hotel with a rather scary old elevator but the staff made me feel unwelcome, perhaps because I'm not 35 - I don't know. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
