Peaceful and Unique Retreat

Feb 29th, 2020

Our stay at the Hacienda Santa Rosa was one of the most enjoyable travel experiences I have encountered to date. For starters, the entire staff was top notch (thank you Israel!). Extremely warm, personable, welcoming, and attentive in all respects. The grounds are gorgeous, you could probably spend a full day just walking through the extensive and lush gardens. The area is full of wildlife, particularly birds. As you can see in the photos, there are two beautiful pools, as well as a series of hammocks in the shade for the hottest hours of the day. They also had an archery setup on the front lawn that we didn’t have an opportunity to use, as well as bikes in case you want to ride through the little town surrounding the property. The rooms are well appointed, and come with a complete turn down service and fresh flowers—they even leave slipper by your bed and fresh Mayan fruit treats out for you before bedtime. We had drinks, dinner, and breakfast at the restaurant, and all were excellent. Coming from the US, the prices seemed reasonable (although undoubtedly more expensive than other meals we had on our trip). Some of the other reviews mention that the property is in a remote location, and we knew that fact when booking the room. We are two busy professionals and that was one of the draws for us. Due to the rural location, it is a peaceful, quiet retreat that truly makes you feel like you are truly getting away from it all. It should be noted that the Hacienda is nearly equidistant between Celestun and Uxmal (about an hour from each), which was another draw. It is also close to Merida, which is where we spent the majority of our trip. We did not have any issues with the roads getting to the Hacienda—all were well paved. We were so impressed with our stay that we have already decided the next time we come back to the Yucatan we will spend our time at the Hacienda Santa Rosa, and will probably try another one of the other Haciendas out as well. Romantic, beautiful property - step back into time

Jan 1st, 2020

We loved our stay at Hacienda Santa Rosa - the property took my breathe away! It is gorgeous and well maintained, and the architecture and restoration of the details is wonderful. We enjoyed the room we stayed in (#1), it was in the main building near the pool and had a great bathtub. Beyond the property, the service was thoughtful and warm, everyone we met was friendly and attentive, we especially enjoyed the restaurant service from Fidel. We arranged transportation in advance through Marvin, the concierge, who was helpful and easy to work with. Some considerations: the Hacienda is in a relatively remote location about an hour outside Merida in a local village (recommend visiting the handcraft workshops!). There are many sights to see in the surrounding area so recommend renting a car or arranging tours through the hotel to get out and about. It is quiet and peaceful, which is exactly what we were looking for. Thank you Hacienda Santa Rosa! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

5 Star Experience

Dec 30th, 2019

We loved this place! We felt like we were guests in a magnificent hacienda and were treated as such by the wonderful staff. Israel and Carolina took care of us at the front desk and were always available if we needed anything or had any questions. We had signed up for some of the activities the hotel offered - cocktail class with Wilbur was fun, although probably more alcohol than I needed! We also did the bird watching with Miguel and the garden tour with Tirzo. Both tours were in Spanish but we understood enough with pictures and our grade-school level Spanish (it definitely helps in this area if you do speak Spanish as most people outside the hotel do not speak English). I would also recommend venturing out to the workshops that are near the hotel. They are off-property and hard to find (Carolina offered to have someone escort us which we should have taken her up on, but some friendly woman in town showed us where they were although they were closed that day). They have nice crafts made with henequen and silver jewelry. I believe there were also hammocks for sale. The vendors only took cash (pesos), otherwise we probably would have bought more. The gift shop in the hotel has some nice items, reasonably priced if the workshops are closed (their hours are not consistent) and they accepted credit cards. As some previous reviews stated, the town appears poor and the roads are horrible but I never felt unsafe. The hotel is strategically located for visiting Uxmal and Celestun, both about an hour or so away. After our stay here, we went to Merida and stayed at the highly rated Rosas y Chocolate hotel, but I felt the service at the Santa Rosa was far better. We didn't try the spa here but it looked nice as did the pool. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Melipona Honey Experience!

Jun 23rd, 2019

My family and I had an excellent exceptional experience! From the Front Desk Staff taking care of our requests to Housekeeping constantly anticipating our needs. The restaurant food and service was superb. We did a cochinita pibil experience. But the highlight was definitely the backyard! They have a 1 hectare botanical garden than include all sort of medicine plants. They even have an experience where you extract melipona honey! The bees are part of your community and behave like good neighbors. I did my extraction with my seven year old! Definitely a place to visit! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Platinum Review - Amazing, Romantic, and Historic Hotel

Jan 31st, 2019

The Santa Rosa is one of our favorite Marriott Haciendas. Located about an hour from Merida, this 10 room boutique hotel will provide you with a once in a lifetime experience. The outstanding customer service and historic restoration is reason enough to spend two to three nights at this wonderful hotel. Here are some additional facts to help you decide to book your stay: Marriott Platinum Recognition- We were upgraded to a wonderful suite with a large patio and pool steps from our room. We were given a bottle of wine and bowl of fruit as a special welcome gift. We selected the breakfast as our platinum amenity, which consisted of anything on the menu. The breakfast food was outstanding. Room - Our suite was very large with a separate living room, bedroom and bathroom. There were two back doors that accessed the private patio with two hammocks, table and chairs. There was a beautiful pool steps from the patio. The private backyard area was so peaceful, with views of the hacienda’s famous red stack. Resort Fee - There was NO resort fee. Yay! Customer Service- We received some of the best customer service. From the check in to check out, everyone was so attentive and kind. This is a clear indication of great hotel leadership. There was complimentary valet parking and the attendants were always polite and responsive. Maid service was impeccable. The overall service received at this hotel is world class. Location- The hacienda Santa Rosa was once a grand home of the owners of a sisal plantation. It has been beautifully converted into a luxury hotel. This property is very well maintained and picturesque. Our only complaint is that the property is located in the middle of a very, very poor town. To get to the property you must travel miles on narrow roads with huge potholes and extreme poverty. Tips- We so enjoyed happy hour each evening at the hotel bar. At 6pm your first drink was free and your second drink was 50% off. Make sure to save an entire day to visit Celestún and the Flamingos. It’s about an hour away and the Flamingos were the highlight of our trip. Have lunch in Celestún and enjoy the beautiful beach too! Overall, Hacienda Santa Rosa is a beautiful boutique hotel. Everything about it is top notch. We find it almost impossible to find fault. We highly recommend for a once in a lifetime old world experience! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
