Not up to par...

Really disappointed with our stay at this Hampton (if you read my other reviews, you’ll see I’m a bit of a Hampton fanatic.) The obvious pro to this property is it’s proximity to the University. However, given the location & demand for rooms in CoMo, I’d expect management to have the means to keep their property up to Hampton standards. This one is missing the mark in a big way. Here’s why: 1. It’s outdated. The decor is old & it shows. The lampshade was stained, the carpet was sticky, the doors are dirty, the ceiling looks like it’s been patched (but not well - the valence was covered in what looked like drywall dust), the wood finishes are scratched/chipped etc. Hamptons are known for their cleanliness. While I’m sure this one was actually clean, it just didn’t feel like it. 2. The AC units are bizarre. We booked 2 rooms, so I have a point of comparison. The first room’s AC didn’t work. It was stuffy when we got there, so we turned down the AC thinking it just needed some time. After a couple of hours, the room felt warmer. And it was. The thermostat had gone up from 71 when we got there to 74. (We had it set to 65). I called the front desk & maintenance came up right away (super friendly.) He acknowledged it was warm in there but insisted the thermostat just wasn’t reporting the temperature correctly because the sensor was dirty. He “checked” the temperature of the air coming out of the unit & he said it was 62. I said “that’s great but how do we get the air in the room to be 62?” He turned the thermostat down from 65 to 60 and said if it wasn’t cooler in the AM, he’d swap out the unit. I explained that didn’t do us any good because we were only staying for one night. He said he’d leave a note for the manager. It was 75 when we went to sleep at midnight. It did decide to kick in at some point in the middle of the night because we woke up in the AM and the room was 62 degrees. Brrr. Not an awesome way to wake up! In the second room, the thermostat didn’t work at all. Thankfully we were able to adjust the temp on the unit itself. That room’s temp was great all night. It’s also how we knew the first room was indeed warm and it wasn’t a thermostat issue. As for the beds, they’re old. Hampton rolled out their Cloud 9 beds maybe 15 years ago (??) I’m pretty sure these mattresses are that old. Hamptons also usually have great pillows. These were super flat, again...showing their age. The staff was great. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to speak to the manager in the AM. There was a line at the desk & we were on a schedule. Overall, if you want a convenient place to stay, this property is great. If you want that typical Hampton experience, you’ll be disappointed. It’s really not up par. Disappointed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Home away from home

My son is in Vet school and we stay here almost every time we visit. Nice place convenient to most everything including food, shopping, and Mizzou! It has the Stadium Grill next door that is convenient too! On our most recent stay during the COVID era, Angela welcomed us warmly, from a distance, and explained the social distancing procedures. We had a nice clean room and take out breakfast daily . As usual, we had a great stay and I am sure we will be back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Three rooms in 24 hours

I booked a room with a whirlpool tub at this hotel. I received an email confirmation of booking a room with a whirlpool tub. I check in and ask the staff member helping me, "This room has a whirlpool tub, right?" He confirms it does. I go in the room and there's no whirlpool tub. I go back to the front desk and ask about this. I'm told all the whirlpool tub rooms are full, despite my reservation. They immediately made it as right as they could and gave me a refund and a room to stay in for the night while we figured out a new plan. My partner spoke with a different staff person the next day who immediately rebooked us into a whirlpool room for the night. Great. She helps us locate restaurants that are open (and not too crowded) and is incredibly helpful. We check into the second room and confirm it has the whirlpool tub in question. However...the air conditioning doesn't work in this room and it's almost 80 degrees in there and not cooling down at all. So now we check into the third room. It has the right tub. It has a working air conditioner. We think we're set. At 4 am, something starts dripping onto a pipe, which echos through our whole room. Plink, plink, plink. We both lay in bed, listening to this awful drip, debating what to do. Do we give up and drive home at 4 am? Do we call down to the desk and attempt to deal with anyone or change rooms yet again in the middle of the night? After an hour or so, the dripping stopped and we fell back to sleep, but it was just another frustration. The rooms are clean and they seem to be taking decent COVID-19 precautions. (I was disappointed that none of the staff members I saw were wearing masks though.) The staff is nice and incredibly helpful. They did what they could to make things right but ultimately we still stayed in three rooms in 24 hours to try to get the room we reserved, and it could have easily been 4 rooms if the dripping had started earlier in the evening. Great stay at the Hampton Inn near the university.

We enjoyed our stay. We were doing a college visit for our daughter. Breakfast was good for this type of breakfast. Rooms were fine. Stadium Grill right next door is convenient, good, American food. It's within easy walking distance to campus (and we walked it several times), or you can Uber/Lyft for about 8$ to the downtown area (which is right next to the campus). We Ubered from the Columbia Airport to the hotel with no problem. Would stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The hotel was nice but the sleeping arrangements were horrible. The bed was very uncomfortable. The walls were pretty thin and it was hard to sleep with all the ruckus going on.The buffet also did not have any meat option. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
