Oceanfront High

I am a Hilton Honors member and have generally stayed at this location when I visit Virginia Beach (2-3 times a year) and have always had positive experiences (minor glitches like digital keys not opening doors) - but last night was bad. I was enjoying the sound of the waves in the evening when around 9:30 PM a strong smell of marijuana smoke filled by balcony. I had to retreat inside. The hotel is a complete no-smoking building and I was hoping someone had stepped out for a quick toke and that would be it. At 10PM the smell was even stronger on my patio. So I went down to the front desk to report it. Apparently this was not the first time this has happened - they have a protocol of going outside to check for activity on the balconies. I stuck my head out the balcony a couple more times and even at 11 the smell was still strong - there was a good wind blowing that should have cleared any short-term pot smoke. I called the front desk and was told they couldn’t find out from the outside who it was and they couldn’t knock on everyone’s door so they couldn’t do anything. I would describe the front desk staff tone as a being a bit snippy. So an unpleasant experience - losing access to my balcony - became worse. There had been no followup from the staff. There was no “Can we send someone up to our balcony to see if we can figure out where it is coming from.” There was no offer to relocate to another room. There wasn’t even an apology or statement of regret - “We’re really sorry for this inconvenience, we wish we could do something.” No, rather I was effectively told, “We can’t (or won't??) do anything. You have to live with it.” Keep this in mind if you are bringing a family unit to this hotel or if you have asthma or other cardio-pulmonary conditions. I was very displeased to lose access to my balcony - why pay up for an oceanfront room if you can’t use the balcony? - and very disappointed in the front desk response. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Bedbugs Bedbugs Bedbugs

This was our anniversary weekend that was ruined. Our room was known to be infested with bed bugs because my husband has bites, stings, irritations or sores all over his body caused by bed bugs and verified by his medical doctor. We checked into Rm 417 of the Hampton Inn on Monday July 20, 2020. The first night felt normal….seemingly clean. After settling in, we did notice many gnats, an abnormal amount. As fast as we would kill one bug we would notice another. Then we noticed other things. The microwave didn't work, sink and tub were both clogged. When we woke up on Wednesday, my husband was covered in bites. We returned home and my husband immediately visited his doctor and was told/verified he had been bitten by bed bugs. I went to the doctor as well and was told I was bitten as well. We both had several bites all over our bodies. Of course corporate management did not want to take appropriate ownership so we will not be staying at this hotel again and will make sure all of our friend know not to stay here as well. Chose this place for a quick getaway. I’m a diehard Hilton hotel goer so chose this hotel. Stayed for 2 nights. Not your typical property. Not up to the cleaning nor visual standards of a Hilton. Room had the “clean” sticker on the door but had a pubic hair on the toilet. Not very clean. Housekeeping never came past to ask if we needed anything. Front staff (check in) were very nice. Restaurant Chichos left much to be desired. Due to COVID, had a paltry breakfast. Just an underwhelming stay. Won’t be back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location /clean hotel

We had a great stay here. Lots of windows to look out over the ocean. Rooms are very spacious and very clean. Staff is all very friendly. Taking lots of Covid precautions including the breakfast. Staff handing out food to make it safer. Every room was pretty much booked last night however hotel still remained very quiet. I made a review yesterday about all the extra charges put on my credit card at a different Hampton inn. I was worried this was Hampton new policy but this is not true! This Hampton only charged me the exact amount that was advertised. This is an honest and great hotel that we will return to the next time we are in Virginia Beach! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good stay!

We had a good stay at this hotel. The staff and their service were very good. The breakfast, all though cold, was also very good. We enjoyed staying on the beach with the boardwalk vehicle parade lights. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
