Great location, but not that great of a hotel

Nov 24th, 2019

This place is in a great location, steps away from Faneuil Hall Marketplace, but it's not a great hotel, however, it looks as though they are doing some updating. When we told the front desk that the fridge wasn't working, they said it had been fixed, then they said it was because we didn't have it turned on correctly. After telling them 3 times that it wasn't working, they said that they would need to switch our room. What??? Why can't you just switch out the fridge for one that is working? After going back & forth, they finally switched out the fridge for us and they did give us a free drink at the bar for our trouble, which was appreciated. Room is a bit dated, but large & comfortable. Bar area is nice. Entertainment that night was awful. Only 6 people in the bar on a Saturday night. Parking is 2 blocks away & was expensive, but parking anywhere in Boston is expensive. Wasn't a totally bad experience, but I think next time we would stay elsewhere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Location, Modern Rooms, Meh Staff

Nov 18th, 2019

Right next to a subway stop, easy walk to Quincy Market, Boston Commons. There is a harbor walk a few blocks away that can take you all the way to the Charlestown Navy Yard or the JFK Library. Lots of restaurants nearby. My room had an exterior view (extra charge), with very high ceilings and a window to match. Modern decor, updated bathroom, very clean. Good selection of toiletries, fluffy towels, but no coffee maker or teapot. Negatives: staff could not bother with pleasantries, like greetings, asking about one's stay, etc. They kept their eyes on their keyboards every time I walked by --- not exactly models of hospitality. Also, few amenities at the hotel --- the bar is open in the afternoon, but when I tried for breakfast, they were washing the floors. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not a great experience.

Nov 9th, 2019

Firstly, know that parking is difficult and expensive - and the staff has zero knowledge about the parking situation. We were told by the hotel that they worked with an off site parking garage and would receive a coupon to use. We were not told parking would be $42 and that there were no "ins and outs" so our first hour of parking cost the full $42 - coupon did not even work our first go round. Secondly, we paid for a room with an atrium view. Technically, I suppose that was correct, but the atrium was actually 4 more stories above us and our room's window gave a view of the elevators - awkward. The room was nice and had lots of amenities but it echoed so it felt like we had to be quiet. I will add, the guy at the front desk, when I complained about the parking situation, was very nice and as helpful as he could be. There was no management on duty, as it was late when we got in after visiting an attraction. He offered us a complimentary drink from the bar, which was very tasty and the bar tender was really nice - it's because of those people I'm giving the 3 star rating over only 2. Great Location

Nov 8th, 2019

There has been quite a few mixed reviews however our experience was really positive. Friendly front desk staff, great room on the 7th floor and an excellent location within an easy walk of many restaurants and attractions. The room itself was not huge but certainly adequate. Lack of any tea or coffee making was a negative as was the rather small bathroom but overall a good hotel that shouldn’t disappoint providing you book a higher level room. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Never Book with Hotels.com

Nov 1st, 2019

The hotel is in the financial district which is a bit seedy. They first of all told us that our booking through Hotels.com was for a "Cabin Room" that turned out to be a windowless room in the basement. Of course I didn't book a room without windows,(my wife is claustrophobic) the picture on Hotels.com was of a king room with a city view. When we went back up and said we couldn't stay there, the hotel "upgraded" us to a king room with an "atrium view," which essentially looked across at the opposite hallway. The room is spacious but if you don't like light in your room you would hate it. The lights in the atrium never go out and they have very thin blinds that didn't block any light at all. The bed is okay but the mattress is worn. Nice pillows however, and the desk people were pleasant. The place is within walking distance of Legal Seafood which is a very good restaurant. Back to Hotels.com. Not only did they inaccurately represent the room view, they charged us $300/night. I found out when we got there that we could have booked the same room for $158. We called Hotel.com and asked why the difference...they said that they would cancel our reservation with a full refund (if the hotel would allow them to) and we could book the room directly with the hotel. Of course the hotel wouldn't allow them to cancel, because they have a 48 hour cancellation policy without refund. When I tried to get resolution with Hotels.com, they actually hung up on me - twice. It's all a big scam...In the future we will always book directly with the Hotel and forget about Hotels.com. Or if you do use them call the hotel 3 days ahead and see if you can get a better rate, You can then cancel with Hotels.com and get the full refund. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
