Disappointing

Oct 24th, 2020

I had stayed here at the end of January and the place, while not luxurious, was sufficiently serviceable so when I needed a place to stay overnight in front of an early-morning flight, I decided to stay here again. I probably won't be going back a third time. I'm not one to nitpick and can deal with the most anything aside from bugs, so I am not saying this lightly. I arrived around 6pm and it took almost 10 minutes for someone to get to the desk. Multiple guests came in and out during the time, one suggesting I ring a bell that was there but I had already tried and discovered it was decorative only. I even took the unusual step of calling the hotel directly from my cell phone, hoping a ringing phone would elicit some response but two times I did this to no avail. Finally, someone came out and began processing my check-in, which took extraordinarily longer than normal before a different person came in to follow up. No acknowledgment of the wait was made. Although the hotel still proudly claims it offers a free breakfast and airport shuttle when booked, I was soon informed that neither was now being offered, which messed with my plan to park my car around the corner and take the shuttle to the airport in the morning. I understand COVID, but there should be updates of changes clearly posted, it's been months now so you can't keep prominently listing services that you are positive you aren't offering. Once I got done with about a 30-minute check-in process, I rode the elevator up to the room. Although there are posters everywhere in the building that everyone must wear a mask by state order, a male guest decided it was perfectly ok to not only not wear a mask but to slip into the elevator as the doors were closing with me already inside it- awesome. The room itself was fine, outside of there being no shampoo (two lotions instead) and the Internet not really working (not a big deal for me since this was a quick overnight stay)- until I went to the bathroom later that night and discovered the toilet wouldn't flush. I lifted the lid and saw there was no water and tried pouring some in from the sink to get it going but to no avail. Not wanting to have to go back out and down to the desk, I figured I would just deal with it for a night and went to bed. I woke up early the next morning, got my run in (passing a clerk at the desk who was maskless), and went up to shower right before needing to leave to make my flight. The only problem was that no water came from the shower. My guess at this point was that the water had either been turned off or was not working for the bathroom in this room and I had to hurriedly get re-dressed again and call the front desk to report the issue. Someone came up and entered my room (maskless), looked at it for a few minutes, then said they'd look into getting me a room on another floor so I could have the chance to take a shower. It took about 15 minutes before the person came back, again maskless, and gave me a key for a room near the other end of the floor. So I had to transfer down there to take a shower and barely made my flight after all of the lost time from this fiasco (I'd have missed it were it a normal travel time). The overall environment here isn't great either- it looks like lots of long-term residents. For the price I paid, I'd have dealt with it if things worked, they advertised their services correctly, and there was full adherence to pandemic protocols but given those lapses into addition to the long-term resident environment, I don't think I'll be back and I recommend you don't go either until they improve their services to at least a baseline level of mediocrity. Great Price and Service

Oct 7th, 2020

Stopped in on my way to Grand Canyon. Location is easy to find just off Interstate 25. Outside looks old, but the lobby is nice. The room is spacious and clean. Rooms are quiet and bed is comfortable. No breakfast due to COVID. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Internet barely worked. Desk guy wouldn't reset it.

Oct 1st, 2020

The internet barely worked at a snails pace. This is unacceptable when i need to work remotely from the hotel room. I ended up having to drive 10 miles away to a truck stop, pay $2 for their internet, then work from my truck as passersby asked for money and cigarettes. I didn't get much sleep in my quest to find internet just so i could work. The guy at the counter said he had 40MB download speeds! lol The next day i complained and the lady said she already had several complaints so she reset the modem. WOW! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel from hell

Sep 20th, 2020

On the way to Albuquerque today we called Wyndham and reserved a room at the Hampton Suites. We got there, and there was a pimp outside with a teenage girl. The screens in the back of the hotel had been yanked off and people were smoking pot. Some kind of gang was racing up and down Gibson Rd. A homeless man was scrounging in the bushes. Got in room and turned on AC. The whole cover came off. The place was trashy.. i wouldn't sleep on that bed for any price.. The place was a dive. I guess that is the last time I reserve in advance. Got this canceled, I hope.. They tried to change our reservations to a 4 star Howard Johnson . Nope, same area. Went down the road (I40) and found a nice La Quinta. Trying to stay with Wyndham, this might be a game changer... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Friendly, attentive staff, very clean rooms, safe haven in a town and space in time where people are not kind or customer

Jul 16th, 2020

After horrid experiences at hotels near by, ( avoid the sleep in airport and the extended stay on international av at all costs)The Hawthorn in and suites is an oasis in a very inhospitible time and place. ( A literal desert oasis). This i attribute to the savvy guy running the show! Luis the manager hand picked a staff with business savy, customer service professionalism and empathy all things I believe should be commended in this time and place! Rooms, a little older but we'll maintained and spotless by an attentive staff from maids and matainence to the wonderful front desk staff. Rooms are huge! Allen , Carl and Gabby under Luis and his fine management attend to each and every need and concern on an individual basis and make it right just for us and our comfort and piece of mind!I highly recommend this property as the best stay in Albuquerque for the price , the service , the safely and the emenities offered! Great job Luis and Allen, Carl and Gabby and thank you maids as well! It has been a highly recomendable please to spend my money at your establishment! Good staffing does make a difference!
