Great Hotel

Sep 27th, 2019

This is our third stay at the Heartland and I think the best stay. The breakfast and light dinners were great, our transportation to and from the hospital was great too. Our room was newly renovated with a comfy recliner in our room. The staff went out of there way for us and everyone else I saw. It felt like home. The hotel is quiet, they provide not only a coffee maker in your room but 2 coffee machines in the lobby/eating area. They grind and make all kinds of fancy coffees. We will definitely stay again when we come back to Iowa City. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Convenient for hospital visiting. That’s about it.

Aug 23rd, 2019

When they say “recently remodeled”, what they really mean is that they had to because at one time there was several feet of water from local flooding. The entire first floor had to be completely remodeled. Our room was average. The king size bed was pretty hard and for some reason we only had three of the flattest pillows I’ve ever seen. You had to fold one in half for it to be remotely comfortable. We arrived very late from the hospital so I wasn’t in the mood to bother someone. The free shuttle to/from the hospital was nice. The shower. Oh my. The pressure is pretty weak and if you’re taller than about 5’6” you’re going to have a hard time. The shower head is lower than normal. The TV setup is weird. Lots of channels to pick from but the tech is a little behind the times. Mini fridge and microwave in the room. Both worked fine. The WiFi was bad, real bad. Even in the lobby the next morning it was near useless. I hotspotted off my phone for our stay. Breakfast was good. Plenty of selection. Biscuits and gravy is always a winner for me. Juice was pretty watered down. Good coffee selections but only for very small cups. We missed the evening dinner the night before. Heard it was good. Not many hotels do that so that was nice to hear. Would I stay here again? If I had family at the hospital, yes. They say they have hospital rates, but nothing better than you’ll get same-day online. If I was visiting for other reasons, I would probably look elsewhere. It was a good place, but they could do a little better. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Decent stay

Aug 22nd, 2019

Got into our room early. Our room window was open upon arrival and let the desk know. A.C. took care of it in short order as it was humid. But, when we needed some assistance a touch before 6 a.m., we were told by the breakfast attendant that no one was at desk duty yet. Huh? I've never heard of a hotel with unattended counter or at least a paging system 24 hours. Before a hotel representative comes on a denies what I've stated, the words came out of an employee, not me. Superb service

We needed a place to stay due to an unexpected hospital stay by a family member. The first night my husband got a room it was well after midnight. We kept the room for two more nights. Wednesday night we came to the room utterly spent and exhausted. We happened on to their cook out night! Burgers, brats, hot dogs, baked beans, fruit cockail, cookies, and more. Didn't even have to leave to get supper! Breakfast is included, and it is substantial. Bagels, fruit, waffles, boiled eggs, juice, and the coffee is great! Best of all, the meal area was kept clean as a whistle! Staff is extremely kind and courteous. There is a shuttle that goes to both the University and VA hospitals, extremely convenient! A special thank you to Marta for her extra kindness! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel stay

What a blessing to have been able to book this hotel At a desperate time that I needed to fly into town for a family emergency. The hotel was nearby the hospital where my niece was in-house due to an auto accident. Their shuttle bus was a blessing to & from the hospital . They had a wonderful complimentary breakfast & dinner bar. The staff were always so helpful at anytime . The rooms were clean & comfortable. I do want to give a shout out to the gentleman at the front desk at night ( sorry I can’t remember his name) but he held my luggage without me checking in right away . Another shout out goes to Mick & David on the day my niece was suddenly transferred to another facility 30 minutes away. My nephew & wife were not able to return to the hotel to retrieve their belongings & check out. Therefore , they allowed him to check out by phone & have me retrieve all their belongings & bring them to my room. Mick & David understanding our situation they allowed me to checkout early evening without charging me a full day provided me with a luggage Roll rack ( had 9 pieces total) & help if needed . Thank you for having such an awesome staff !! I’m definitely will be recommending the Heartland Inn to family & friends . Sincerely Mrs Serrano TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
