Challenging times with Covid -- you can do better
Aug 24th, 2020
This was our first trip back to Columbia since our senior student returned to campus at UofSC ... and first time staying at this Hilton property, although we've stayed at 4-6 of the others in town. Didn't know what to expect with the Covid pandemic and all we read in the press about Hilton's partnership with Lysol for clean rooms. Upon entering the property the signs are visible stating all guests must wear face masks -- no problem, happy to follow the rules. The front desk had plexi barriers for the safety of the guests and front desk staff. The door to the room had the tape seal showing the room had been sanitized by housekeeping since the previous guests. You have to be pretty trusting as the tape on our door was not completely sealed ... it was loose on the door jamb side. But the most careless part of our stay was the total lack of enforcement of masks requirements in the lobby. On the weekend afternoon there were at least 35-45 people in the lobby and ~90% were not wearing masks. You either have a policy, as stated by multiple signs throughout the lobby, and enforce it ... Or you don't. Maybe these groups were families, but for the safety of all guests you would think Hilton would ask guests to follow the posted guidelines. F&B services were very limited, but Ruth's Chris was open. No breakfast was offered other than a grab and go bag. Our room appeared clean and sanitized. The TV remote was wrapped in a sandwich bag. These are certainly challenging times for the hospitality industry and equally challenging when the need to travel arises. This property can do better. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stunning decor in the public areas, rooms are updated and very clean - love the lysol branded room stickers that I assume are new new to covid. Great location, friendly service, and convenient parking - couldn't ask for more - thank you! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I had to go to the doctor, and decided to revisit this hotel. They were wonderful. Ruth Chris was great and did a to go b-fast the first day and we did a sit down the next. We also had a great city view room. Everything is clean and neat. What made this stay better was, even without an upgrade, they made sure I had an accessible room, and the walk in shower was so much easier than trying to get in and out of the tub. I also LOVED the desk chair. I do wish you would do the split trash bins, one side recyclable the other trash. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel is clean as as you would expect for Hilton. Staff was courteous for the most part (a bit aloof when confirming appt and when ordering room service). Beds were very comfortable. There is a wonderful coffee shop just across the street if you like good coffee and pastries. In addition there is a parking garage, unlike some other hotels in the area. Walking distance to restaurants. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I want to tell you this is one of the BEST hotels ever. I have a service dog, and your hotel was nothing but spectacular. And to top that off, you called me for every matenance issue, amid our Covid 19. Apollo and I are now reviewed on how to 'be perfect' as a team, as we go to Buffalo. I want to stress EVERYONE at the hotel is awesome. We will be back during the summer. I loved the like almsost great gaspy hall ways and rooms. My only sadness is the bathroom was dinky tiny. Again, ten stars for you guys during a stressful time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
