Just what we needed

Jul 15th, 2019

This property (recently re-branded) is just what is needed in the Newark City and Newark Airport area. It is each to reach by shuttle bus to and from the airport and more importantly, sits virtually on top of Newark Penn Station will access to lots of trains. The new team is hard at work upgrading rooms, spaces, image and customer service. We arrived late at night; our reservation was ready and best of all the desk clerk on duty made our transfer from the airport to the hotel very smooth after a similar Hilton bus took us to the wrong hotel. Rather than sending us back to the airport to start over, she sent the bus to us, and we eliminated a lot of wasted time getting to the right property. Breakfast buffet was over the top. Hot and cold items were plentiful and well prepared as well as maintained at the correct temperature. It was a real treat after a two-week vacation in Europe where breakfasts are much different. Check out time was very reasonable and allowed us to stay in the room rather than going to the train station early. We’ve been in several other hotels near the airport, but this will be our new home when we fly from EWR. Reasonable rates too. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great For Location, Great Staff, Some Minor Improvement points. Alex is amazing!

Jul 9th, 2019

The hotel was recently converted from a Hilton to a DoubleTree. The breakfast staff was nice, Stella was a hoot and Alex was one of the best breakfast waiters I have ever encountered. Alex was always friendly, offered coffee to go, remembered our orders and everything. Please do recognize him because he elevates your breakfast experience. The breakfast itself was good, standard, nothing too wow, nevertheless, good! Check-in was great, the Lady who checked us in on the night of the 4th of July was very accommodating. All other interactions have been good. There is a young lady who was also very friendly and would help us with the cookies when we requested. We even joked about how this must be a change from Hilton to DoubleTree with guests coming and asking for cookies. Rooms are good. Got a note that they will be upgrading the TVs which is good. Housekeeping came every day and even left a note when I had a laptop on the bed to let me know that they cannot touch my personal equipment which I thought was nice. The day after they didn't make the beds but did everything else (nothing was on the bed) which was odd. The Housekeeper had met my mom the previous day and when they saw me entering the room while they were cleaning they checked to make sure I was supposed to be in the room which was a nice touch for security. Only thing is you can see the dust piling up where the phone and bed lamp is next to the bed. Great location, Penn Station is right across and there are convenience stores located right next to the restaurant outside. Business center is good. Gym is nice. All in All a good stay! Again - ALEX IS A CHAMPION AT BREAKFAST!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

very Happy with our stay. We Had a Great time. Room very Nice and Clean. EASY to Get to the Big City! felt Safe at all times. Lots of food choices. Parking was a little crazy but once we learned how to get into the parking garage, we're had no troubles. We will stay again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

shuttle bus a no show

Jul 8th, 2019

I selected the newark/penn station Double tree because it was close to the airport after my flight was cancelled. The hotel was suppose to have a shuttle to and from the airport. Waiting and called for over 2 hours with Hilton customer service also calling and could not get anyone to answer the phone. Had to get a umber with other unhappy customers. The hotel seemed to care less when we checked in. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Staff Good, Room felt like cheap Motel

Jul 8th, 2019

Staff and Breakfast were Great. The room was moldy and wet carpet. Reminded me of a $60 night cheap motel room. It’s convenient to Newark Penn Station. Neighborhood is not so nice. Lots of homeless around. The 7-Eleven across the street is convenient. There are a few cheap food options between the hotel and train station lobby that don’t require you to leave indoors.
