Lovely stay

Jul 20th, 2019

I stayed here for business early July for two nights. A lovely hotel entrance, smells pleasant, like a spa when you walk in. The glass entrance and lobby is very welcoming and allows so much light in, added to the views of the Tyne behind the reception, it’s a good start. The room I had was nice, view was lovely - see picture. I slept well both nights and the bed was comfortable. Water in the room is always good and more was given on the second day (never taken for granted and some 4 star hotels don’t do that at standard!) so that’s appreciated. Breakfast was good, a good selection of cooked food, cereals, healthy food, milk alternatives and attentive staff - despite how busy it became. All in all, a hotel I’d return to if I was in Newcastle for work or pleasure. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel of an apocalypse

Jul 17th, 2019

I can’t find one redeeming feature at the is hotel. I guess the location but when I went to the local bar at the quay, I was told that there was nowhere decent to go in Gateshead so that put pay to that thought. This hotel is not cheap, I paid £180 room only. I arrived quite late and was tired, on arrival I was met by an empty water feature/fountain outside. I walked in to find another huge empty tired and shabby looking water feature in the cold, soulless foyer. I felt like this would be how it would be if the world ended, I alarmist expected to be met by a zombie at reception. I checked in, went to my room, along a shabby and pretty smelly hallway on the fifth floor, to find it was an accessible room, I hadn’t requested that nor did I want it. The room also smelt of something unpleasant .... I went back downstairs where the girl was apologetic and moved me straight away. I went to my new room .... 544 and it was at least a standard room. The air con was making a racket, I wondered if there was an animal or perhaps a previous guest stuck in there ...! It was also hot so I tried to turn it down, nope that didn’t work .... turn it off?!? Nope! It also smelt of something queer ... I’m tired, I’ll just order room service. Called, my first two choices weren’t available, that was annoying so I picked something that I didn’t really want just so I could eat. I was then told that there was a £6 charge to bring it up .. by now I’m pretty fed up and I thought I’m not paying £6 for someone to bring food up that I don’t really want. I said leave it so I walked over to Newcastle and had dinner. I had the worst nights sleep as the air con continued to make a noise and blow our hot air all night into the smelly room. Needless to say I checked out as soon as I could and had my breakfast elsewhere. What a horrible horrible place, don’t bother! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great hotel

Jul 17th, 2019

Stayed here for 2 nights on business. I was lucky enough to get a complimentary upgrade to a room on the 5th floor. Great size room with fantastic views of the river and the Sage. There was a separate shower and bath and a very comfortable bed. I received excellent service in the restaurant both in the evening and at breakfast. All the staff I interacted with from the front desks to the lounge were all very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Only because I was on business and didn't have time to change locations

Jul 17th, 2019

Hotel room had stained carpet and furniture. A/C only goes down to 23C (73.4F) which is warm. Hallways are loud. Restaurant is incredibly slow and food is meh. (much better choices within walking distance). Avoid if you can. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
