Food great. Location ok.... Front desk staff atrocious.

Oct 17th, 2019

Food great. Location ok.... Front desk staff atrocious. If you go here, only deal with the concierge, who works standard business hours. If you have a question in the evening or need special service in the evening, good luck. They will tell you you're getting an upgrade, when you're not. I let that go because she was trained to say that and probably had to. I had a perishable gift delivered to one in our group. They let it sit for hours. When I inquired about it, they said it never arrived (it was sitting behind them on the countertop). They said I should speak to the concierge in the morning (and leave it sitting there all night). When I pointed out the package behind them was indeed the package, they became snippy and told me "obviously 'someone' figured it out because it has the correct room number on it." OK. NO. Letting it sit there is 100% not figuring it out. (I had called ahead and let them know they would receive a guest package needing refrigeration, but receptionists cannot be bothered to give messages to the concierge or to transfer calls to that message center). They went on to explain that the package that a moment ago had not existed in their minds had not been delivered because of a privacy sign on the guests' door. So their plan was now to let it sit there until that sign came down. Now I understand not entering a room that has been designated private. But maybe just leave a message, text, say something as the guy walks through the lobby... You know, like a concierge would do. My final analysis is that the reception staff are sooooo jealous of the concierge that they simply refuse to deliver exceptional service, since in their minds they are not paid exceptional wages. The property is fine. Some reviews talk about odors and such. This is is not the case. The spa is very delightful. The bay is not water for swimming (dirty), but kids still love the sand. Really the only downside is the reception staff, all of them from what I can tell, are not to be bothered with conciergey requests. When I called with questions before our stay, when I called to alert them they would receive a package for a guest that would need refrigeration, I was treated with a snotty, not-my-job attitude, and not once was I transferred to the concierge's message center. But they are happy to put you on eternal hold when you want to leave a courtesy message for the shuttle driver that you won't need a pickup. Management needs to wake up to this systemic problem. It would cost less to have two concierge shifts than to employ unenthusiastic, offensive receptionists. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beachfront rooms are more sideways rooms; wifi not great but situation was resolved

Oct 11th, 2019

First of all, we arrived on a busy Saturday & parking lot (with gates open) was FULL of cars that were not supposed to be parked there--a maintenance person said that folks using the parks often park in Hilton's lot. So then where the heck are we supposed to park & unload our luggage?? I eventually ended up following someone to their car and waiting till I could take their place. Second, wifi didn't work well first night, second night it didn't work at all- spoke to IT person located off site who promised to resolve it. Still not working when we got in but too tired to spend time with IT again. Day three I went to manager & made our sentiments heard. It was repaired by time we got back, but seriously? 3 days to get our free internet working? Also, building we were in (Rm 500 something) was very run down, with signs on narrow stairway saying something about the building causing cancer!! We were only there 5 nights. What about the staff who are cleaning daily??? Come on, Hilton. You need to FIX this! This Hilton is in a beautiful location, very busy on the Saturday we arrived- well over the limit of kids in the pool- the place was heaving. Drinks, food, people everywhere. Hilton has to be making some good money on this property, so why not fix the problems! Especially if the rooms could cause people (especially staff) cancer! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My new favorite hotel in San Diego!

Oct 8th, 2019

I stayed here with some friends and we fell in love with the resort! It is beautiful, I've been here years ago and it feels like a completely different place! The rooms were so clean, and have a bright and nautical vibe which is so bright and they have so much natural light. The beds were so comfy and the comforter I've already looked online because I need to buy it! All of the staff was so friendly, everywhere we went the employees said "hi!" we even were accommodated with an early check in which was amazing! We ate at the restaurant which was very reasonably priced, the food was delicious, and the waitress was very attentive. I loved all the fire pits by the pool! And they even had a walk in area for youngsters. It's a great size, there were a few other groups and it was so large we felt like we were alone. We rented bikes right on property and took them around they bay! They also had paddle boards, kayaks, scurries, you name it. This hotel is a great value for the price, and I hope they never realize it! I am already planning my trip back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Outstanding Resort

The room was completely awesome, very calm and perfect for the occasion. But the best of all was the service provided by the concierge; Gordie helped us out a lot and was a life savior. Thank you for making out honeymoon a wonderful experience! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
