I very much enjoy this hotel road tripping: really comfortable great rooms & bathroom plus easy parking

I had stumbled across the Hilton St George’s Park last year whilst road tripping and loved it, having a fantastic stay. I wish there were more hotels like it throughout the country as it’s an oasis and in fact this year when planning my trip I kept seeing if it was anywhere near my route so I could stay again. Initially it was not but when I extended my stay it did work well and so I called to make a reservation. The slight hiccup was that there was no double room available, only a twin available this time but they had left a note and hoped that by the time I checked in something was available. I arrived thrilled to be back but alas check in was a bit of a mess. I’m a silver Hilton Honors member and so went to the preferential desk. There was a very nice girl who informed me that they now did have a double room available for me, hurrah. Then she could not process it and eventually it turned out the room was out of service due to a fault. There was a rather unfriendly supervisor there who informed me it was their mistake but I had to go to the twin instead, they did have a slightly higher category room but I would have to pay £20 extra for it. I thought this was very poor show as it was their mistake and all done with a grumpy attitude by the supervisor, the initial girl was lovely and it did put of a blemish on my arrival. I guess she was having an off day. My room this time was located on the 1st floor to the left of reception and was wonderfully quiet. The room was great and exactly what I loved about the hotel, clean, fresh, modern, homely and relaxing, sumptuous bed(s) with crisp linen. Really comfortable. The bathroom as usual was very good. Easy parking is always a bonus with this property. I very much do enjoy this hotel and would enjoy spending a few days here just to chill-out but I must admit my experience this time at reception was far from welcoming. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Would not recommend

The room was nice but lacked a guide book with intructions for lights, air conditioning etc. The carpet was stained and the fridge was empty and had a foul smell. The reception staff are lovely but the bar manager was aggressive and unpleasant towards our group which spoiled what should have been a happy family occasion. The bar displays notices stating children are not permitted after 22.00 hrs which is ignored. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Reception staff could be more friendly breakfast should be included at 130 a night if not its 20 a head that's steap for a buffet standing lamp never worked for a late night read but a very clean hotel TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointing and expensive

I was attending a business event at the hotel. On arrival it all appeared fine, room was spacious and spotless clean, nice hotel on nice, albeit rural, setting. There was a kids football convention of sorts on so, like the other review, agree that the place was over-run with children. I have children and don't object to this, however there were clearly not enough staff on to cope with both functions. We hadn't made a reservation for the restaurant so had to wait a full hour to be seated, ok this was our own doing so we sat in the bar while waiting. We ordered a round of drinks, two gins, one glass of wine and a vodka, it came to £39. However, after being seated for almost 30minutes we had to call on a waitress to take our order. After another FULL hour, I had to seek the manageress to ask where our food was, she advised that she would go an check. She then came back out the kitchen and passed our table twice, no update, no apology. I again approached her and asked her for an update. She was very rude to me and totally unapologetic. I advised her that had the place not been in the middle of nowhere, we would have walked out. She offered me a round of drinks as compensation, which I declined,. Eventually she agreed to a discount on the meals. Two of our party had the same meal and had upset stomachs the whole night and into the next day. We made a formal complaint about the possibility of there being something wrong with the meals and the behaviour of the restaurant manageress. Two weeks later, I had to contact them for an update on the complaint to be advise it was still being Investigated!! We finally received a response today advising that all checks were found to show nothing wrong with the food and suggestion that the two people, who ate the same meal, should visit their GP!! NOT a word about the complaint regarding the restaurant manageress. Disappointing visit and disappointed at Hilton's attitude. We wont be back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Have to say this is quite an outstanding Hilton. The facilities, the food and the comfort / rooms are great.....butcwhst makes this hotel unique is the team. They are passionate....absolutely get hospitality and are just the loveliest people you could meet. Thank you TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
