Pleasant stay

Aug 1st, 2020

Stayed for one night in late July om a Monday night. Good location and nice reception and lobby area. Rooms ok but not to same standard. Very good smoking area in a central quadrangle. I am not a smoker but recognizse that it is a good facility being under cover and well maintained. Good parking with no security system. Extremely friendly check in and check out experience. I would stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I stay away weekly on business and can honestly say that this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions, choices of hotels open for key workers is somewhat limited resulting in my stay here. In all of my previous hotel stays during the pandemic, I have felt that a concerted effort has been made to make me feel safe and reassured. Sadly not so here, there is absolutely no evidence of additional cleanliness. There were however screens at the check in desk and a half hearted attempt to mark out social distancing measures with unsecured laminated A4 signs casually placed on the floor in front of it. The room itself was tired and shabby and in desperate need of refurbishment. The decor may have been modern upwards of 20 years ago and I find it difficult to comprehend that management perceive these standards to be acceptable. Furnishings are worn, damaged and stained and sofa and chair both were so grubby that I couldn’t bring myself to use either. There were stains on walls and lampshades along with mouldy ceilings and the only saving grace was that the bedding was clean. There was a connecting door in my room and I could hear one side of my neighbours telephone conversation with absolute clarity. In return I felt sorry for her when I opened my wooden window shutters at 545am as the screeching noise they made was horrendous. I was informed at check in that a limited room service menu was available however judging by the room standards, I didn’t feel that ordering from it would have been the best idea. Similarly with breakfast, which in line with what most hotel chains are currently offering, takeaway continental is the current norm. I again declined this offer but did discover that those unfortunate enough to pay the £10 would not even receive tea of coffee and just a mini box of cornflakes, carton of milk, a mini croissant, portion of jam, yoghurt and an apple! If you are considering booking a stay here, my advice would be to seriously look elsewhere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stayed here on business. First night had little more than an hours sleep due to children of other guests running around the corridors. Had to get out of bed at one point and tell a couple of them to get to bed. Problem persisted after this. Spoke to the front desk the morning after and it was evident that staff had been aware of the problem (there was a function of some sort taking place that previous evening) but had failed to deal with it. Unclear why they did not put business customers on the upper floor. On the final night of my stay I was disturbed by the volume of the TV in the next room. In my experience other hotels of this type are limiting TV volumes in order to prevent this kind of anti-social behaviour by inconsiderate guests. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

One night, working visit

Mar 23rd, 2020

Nice hotel, a bit more shabby than most Holiday Inns I have stayed in. But it was being refurbished during my stay, reception area anyway. Bedroom was OK, bed comfortable, room clean. I used the spa facility, but the pool was not open, not sure if this is a regular Monday night thing, just check in advance if this is something that is important to you. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
