Great stay!

We stayed here for a week visiting friends who live a few blocks away. Small boutique style hotel in downtown Calgary. All of the employees we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Room had everything we wanted...microwave, mini fridge, Keurig coffeemaker. Great wifi. Comfortable bed, sheets, pillows and comforter. Rooms made up daily in a timely manner. Breakfast was more than we expected with a good variety. I was concerned about possible noise staying downtown, but the area is quiet. We had a room facing the front of the hotel. Never heard the LRT on 7th. There are train tracks a few blocks south of the property with frequent freight trains. Never blew their whistle and never really heard the trains at all. Was not an issue for us and we had our sliding door open slightly at night. Great indoor, secure, free parking that even accommodated out Ram pickup. All in all staying here has been a great experience and I plan on staying here again on my next trip. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

So noisy do not recommend

Old building, ugly neighbourhood and loud. Writing this at 2am because I can’t sleep. Noise from the train, traffic, sirens. I called “guest services” no they don’t have ear plugs!! Overpriced! Will not stay here again. 2 nights stay TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Comfortable stay

I stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed the stay. Easy to catch the free tram, the closest station around the corner. Hotel room has everything you need. Breakfast was included in my stay with bagels, cereal and eggs and some sweet muffins. Room had a small balcony overlooking city. Next time I’m in Calgary I would stay here again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Smelled of rotten eggs and a truly obnoxious manager

What a horrible place run by a truly horrible human being... not only unbelievably rude but a liar as well.

From the moment I arrived my experience was bad. I choose to stay at IHG hotels because I’ve done so for 18 years and as a consequence I have their highest level status. Normally my experiences are special and I’m treated well and thanked for my loyalty. It’s no big deal, but being appreciated makes an impact.

Not at this place. No welcome - I asked for a particular type of room -it wasn’t available so no problem. This was a work trip and I just really needed a bed

Stayed 2 nights - no real problem. Returned on day 3 and the entire hotel stank of sewage. My room was particularly bad and I was close to vomiting. I called down to see and apparently there had been an issue on the 5th floor that maintenance had fixed but opened up all the vents and the rest of the hotel smelled of rotten eggs. I suggested to the front desk that they let the manager know and that I thought it appropriate that they comped my final nights stay 

Within 5 minutes the manager is banging in my door. I was in the washroom but he banged again and was shouting for me to answer. I opened the door and began to explain the smell and the compensation I thought appropriate - he was having none of it and started to argue with me. I told him I was a Spire Elite never and very loyal, but his reaction was “IHG has over 2 million spire elite members, it doesn’t make you special.... you’re NOT special. The exchange he continued for maybe another 45 seconds or so and I realized it was going to be futile so while he was still in mid sentence for the third time saying he would give no compensation I’d had enough and firmly closed the door..... it did make a bit of a bang I admit, but I just thought I’d have to suffer the smell so opened windows and sprayed some aftershave around. 2 minutes later the phone rang. It’s the same guy... “you have 30 minutes to pack your bag and leave the hotel or I’m calling the cops” he said that me closing the door firmly was ‘assault’. I apologized if he thought that was the case, but he was screaming down the phone at me. The futility of trying to resolve it was obvious. I called IHG to register my disbelief and disgust - they were excellent and called him to try and resolve the situation but he lied to them and told them he had offered me multiple other resolutions... he didn’t offer one.... was in my face and extremely rude. I was left with no choice but to pack my bags and book myself into another hotel. A horrible horrible distressing experience. Fortunately not all IHG properties are like that... even though I had to book into a competitor hotel for the night I won’t let the behaviour of one disgraceful franchisee derail 18 years of good experiences. It was a really simple thing to resolve but this mans bloody mindedness just got in his way.

Clean and comfortable hotel

Nice, clean hotel. Room was really nice, bed super comfy and furnishings seemed pretty new. Can hear the traffic and car horns/alarms from the street below constantly, the patio door doesn't block out any noise. There's a list of tv channels on a piece of paper in the room which was completely useless. There's a fridge and a microwave in the room, which would be really useful if only they provided plates and cutlery to use. Good location and friendly staff. Facilities not too good, no vending machine, no ice machine, no bar, no gym etc. The big thing about this hotel that I didn't like was the amount of waste produced. Everything was in disposable, throwaway packaging including the cups in the room, so unnecessary. Even breakfast uses paper plates, cups and plastic cutlery, definitely not good enough for a well known hotel chain. I couldn't even cut up my food! A few improvements to this hotel could make it a million times better. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
