Solid. Mistake with a nice apology

I stayed 2 days for business (then another trip after for pleasure - see other reveiew). The location is good and breakfast is the standard HIE breakfast with a nice room. Didnt park this time but did last time and spaces are limited but fine. The front desk clerk acted pretty abruptly over a billing issue and I shared my concerns. He thought about it, discussed with the manager and wrote me a nice lettett explaining where he went wrong and offered me some points. Very nice. Gotta appreciate someone acknowledging and trying to make things right!! Stay there. See next review because I stayed for another trip too. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Good location but...

Location served me attending a conf last minute at the Brown, other hotels were 2x the price just a few blocks away. But the smell of mold or mildew in my room was hard to take. Admittedly i didn’t ask to switch rooms, I assumed it wouldn’t change based on scent in hallway and wasnt worth the hassle for barely over two days, most of which wouldn’t be in the room. The stairwell smelled of something like vomit and my bathroom stunk like sewer and at one point I saw a fan/heater in my hallway on the third floor by the elevator so something tells me moisture is a problem there. Also when the room blower went on I heard bubbling or running water. Breakfast was ok and I appreciated an option for fence locked half of parking, as they can’t control what goes on around them. Fitness center worked ok - only used the treadmill and the shower head was decent, even though the prior person had it pointed upward so when I turned it on to heat up water it sprayed on the floor. Bed was adequate I suppose. I won’t be going back here - too many marks against it and will probably think twice about a HIE next time in other cities. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I stay at this hotel every year in January for Houston Marathon. I make my reservation one year ahead each time. I am also a Gold IHG member. This year one of my credit cards expired in October and another card was potentially compromised, so AMEX replaced it. I'm not sure which card was used to make the reservation, but in any case, I logged into my HIE account and updated the credit card info to make sure my reservation was up to date. Today I received an email from this hotel stating that they tried to verify my card by submitting a $10 charge, which was declined, so this hotel assumed it was invalid and cancelled my reservation. No phone call, no email to request updated credit card info. Just cancelled my reservation. This is 10 days before the marathon, which brings 20,000 runners into the city and fills all of the hotels. This was a very unprofessional and unfair move on this hotel's part. After being a loyal customer at this hotel for a number of years... never again!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfect for what I needed, a clean, large comfortable room and bed, close to downtown. Handy bar/restaurant attached with decent menu and plenty of drinks selection. Only downside - $30 for valet parking (no other parking options) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Great downtown location

Clean and roomy rooms with a reasonable price. It is within walking distance to venues like the Toyota Center in the convention center district. Add free parking and complimentary breakfast and it’s a winner! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
